1. Hi - I'm looking to trade my stunning RS700 head (mint) for a different head. I love the sound of the RS but I need a head that has adjustable low mids and high mids along with bass/mid/trebble to get the sound I want. Prefer semi-parametric eq. With my RS I want to cut the low mids and boost high mids but can't do it! Not sure what heads have this so I'm very open minded, would love Genz Benz GBE but I guess that won't happen so open to offers. Ta Nugget
  2. Hi - I've being playing for a few years now and quite reasonable in fingerstyle. I'm looking for someone to teach slap technique, I've pratted around for a while with youtube etc but never really given it a good shot - need a new challenge!

  5. Hi guys - ok this might be a stupid question – Is overdrive on a bass sound a good thing??? I’ve been playing for quite a few years now and I still don’t really get it! So many amp are good because they can be overdriven to give a distorted sound, there are loads of bass pedals for OD. With the exception of Hysteria by muse are there any other mainstream songs that have a distorted bass sounds? I know tone/sound is a very personal thing but I look for a clean sound that cuts through well in a live (loud) band with good high frequencies that enhance the low end, every time I’ve added OD I loose definition that I’ve struggled to find. I’ve listened to quite a few demos of OD pedals / amps on youtube and honestly It doesn’t work for me….. I do like the idea of tube ‘warmth’ in a sound but not much more than that.
  6. Great guy - didnt seem to get worried when I somehow managed to screwup the bank transfer!! THANKS !!!!!! Nugget

    External Preamps
why not just turn the treble knob up on the amp to get the top end zing? It's not like you dont have a good amp. ?
I'm not 100% sure the amp is not the the problem - the story deapens.... I've tried cranking the trebble on the amp, I have to turn it to max to get somewhere close to the same level of highs i was getting active with the run eq flat and then i get a load of hissing!! I've also noticed a big drop in volume from the amp, yes i know passsives can be lower output than active pickups but i turn the input gain up until the red clip light starts to flash when playing hardest so the input level into the amps preamp is the same. The drop in volume (approx 25% down) and lack of highs happened when changing pickup. Original pickup and preamp are inthe post to new BC owner so I cant slot them back in to try. It's a very strange coincidence for the amp to play up the same time as changing pickup?? I only have one bass and one amp so can't try another setup. Cab seems fine is is measuring 8.2ohms so I dont think one speaker has dropped out. Help....
  9. Hi - I need some advise as i've got myself a little confused.... I recently upgraded an olp 5 string fitted with a SD on-board preamp to a fully passive Villex pickup. The Villex is simply stunning, word cant describe the difference...but... in a couple of songs we do I miss the active high end zing when popping. I'm not a slap monster and the Villex is 100000000% better for fingerstyle. I was thinking about going for an external preamp (or putting an onboard in a box) but all reviews seem to be based around using them as DI boxes rather than using to boost a passive. Thinking about Sadowsky or tone hammer, please suggest others if you've got experience. question is - the Villex is a high output passive with very clever and superb mid control but I cant see why it shouldnt work with an external preamp... I really dont want to loose the woody natural sound of the villex (true bypass prefered). Do these external preamp work as will as on-board ones? why do they get marketed and reviewed more as DI box. Also many recommend putting them into the return FX loop?? you dont do this with active basses - so why go in the FX loop if they are just the same as on-board preamps?? I guess from reading this you have realised I've got myself confused. Anyone got one for sale? Anyone lives near Worcester that would let me try one out???? Thanks all Nugget

  16.
Hi, i would like to buy this, live in Coleshill so not far, in monday or tuesday evening, cheers
Hey I know Coleshill, I used to go drinking in a pub in a trading estate there - the Norton Arms I think?? - I can for sure meet Tuesday eve or monday afternoon, we are rehersing Monday eve. I'll pm you my phone number in the morning as I'm off to a gig now at the harvester Solihull (not far from you and the cab will be in the van..but dont tell anyone that) Cheers Nugget
  17.
Using a peavey MkVIII series which gives 350watts @ 4 ohms and 600watts at 2ohms.
as far as I know (correct me if I'm wrong) you'll get 175watts @ 8 ohms - exactly the same as the Hartke HA3500 I used with this cab for 2 years. Solid state amps will drive any ohms down to their minimum, you approx half the watts as you double the ohms. volume (db) is not directly proportional to watts, it's more to do with sensitivity (1w/m)
  18.
My head only does 4ohms I think ...so it will reduce the output wattage by half I think? Don't know if anyone can tell me other wise? I'll try and see what the results of running an 8om cab through a 4ohm head are.
What head are you using?
  19.
Hi matey interested in this!! can you tell me if it's 4ohms or not? Also do you get anywhere near Hull? Cheers!
Hi, it's 8ohm but has a very high 1w/m value so is very loud. I've used it as my only cab for a few years now and it's coped very well with a crazy loud drummer. It's louder and much clearer than my old 410 ashdown abm cab and pretty light and compact. I could possibly be near Hull on tuesday eve. Ta Nugget
  20. SWR Goliath Jr 210 Cab in very good condition. These are one of the clearest sounding cabs ever, it cuts through the mix very well in a LOUD band. Great bass response even with 5 string low B, I've never even thought about adding a 15" cab. I live in Worcester but travel around loads, mainly manchester & bradford but can get pretty much anywhere south of Newcastle. I'll get photos and more details up this weekend Cheers Nugget
