Good evening, I would like to share with you all some bass transcriptions; my main work to grow and improve on my musical path. I focus more on melodies, themes, solos, than bass parts. No plan: i work on pieces (or parts of pieces) than touch me and makes me vibrate. I transcribe for 4 strings bass: there will be some compromise on certains notes. (no low D 😁) Let's start with Jean -Philippe RAMEAU : La danse du grand calumet de la paix My transciption is based on several versions. This one is just an example, a nice version. It's downloadable in pdf, or Musescore format. You can also play it freely directly on Musescore website. JP RAMEAU - La danse du grand calumet de la paix - player online Edit: i add pdf direct link for those interested as i had a feedback about mandatory registration on musescore website to be able to download it from my below link. changing rh muting technique after 20 years (need help)
Sté replied to pandemonium's topic in Theory and Technique
Last year i' have completely re-build my right hand technique after seeing some vids from Anthony Jackson. I was needing something to easily switch from chords to single notes and feeling it the more natural possible. And then i also discovered how he used the pick. It was a revelation. It took me several months, little by little to change habits and feeling good with this new way: i play now with thumb, index and middle finger, without a real anchor: just my hand palm touching strings when i need to mute. A mix between Anthony Jackson and Mark Knopfler. And it works really well; in alternance with more conventional two fingers techniques with floating thumb anchoring on strings, and pick. It opens a lots of possibilities, as the sound is not the same when you play with the thumb or with the classic two fingers technic. And when you got the habit to not really anchor your hand, you can easily move the hand to change tone on the fly following what call the tune. All i can say is when you have few months of practice; you don't ask yourself what technic to use: it comes naturally with what tone you to achieve at this moment. Like muscle memory. And this 3 fingers "guitar" technic is really cool for playing chords in the middle of your bass line. You can also look at Hardien Feraud technic. It's kind of mixing all of that except the pick, inspired from Matt Garrisson & Anthony Jackson. This change has carried a lot of possibilities to work on dynamics and be able to change tone only with right hand. -
You'll have a happy friday: that was fantastic !

As we spek about facebook, if you all didn't yet read this book, i highly suggest it: Not only about facebook but all social media working the same to stick you behind your screen the most possible. This book should be explained in schools... -

By the past i've felt in a kind of addiction to facebook: hours to scroll things i wasn't interested by. And i had a lot more suggested things than things from what i was really interested and posts from my real friends. So i quit it and erased completely my profile. Problem is my favorites artists are using it to communicate about news, new music, tours etc.. so i created one new profile and found a way to manage it: i don't go in the news feed anymore but only in my search history. By this way, i only see news from pages i've searched and already looked. A kind of favorites list without any dumb suggestion or sponsorised things around. -
This perfect version of Strasbourg-St Denis from Roy Hargrove by Toshiki Soejima. Coolness and optimist vibe all around. I dig his sound, playing and smile.

What do you mean by the same ? The same plug jack for sure, but position is different in ears. You can see example pic on thomann website. On sound side, it's pretty superior than all i've had as standard small headphones. All is clear, bass are really good. https://www.thomann.fr/the_tbone_ep_4.htm -

I bought the t.bone EP 4 (from thomann) cause i was needed some in-ear to sub a gig with an all equipped band. And i can say that for the price i've paid, those ones are very good, comfortable to use. Bass sound is really present and nice. I now use it at home with my mighty plug mp-2 and it works perfectly. -
Streaming is just a real chance to discover some new artists on a larger basis than only local gigs around. Especially in comtemporary jazz music which is not the more played music around. I've found a mid-road between past and present: buying monthly some jazz dedicated newspaper (yeah, we still have two different ones surviving) in which i find a lot of albums reviews. And then, go to discover Artists that reviews inspired me on Deezer. And when i find something i really like, buy the CD. (no vinyl digger here); and go to see them live when i've the chance it's not to far. And then buy merch; and following them after, etc ..

Not yet cause don't have a gig soon, but my U5 is now my #1. First run is a composition session with the band this upcoming weekend. I can't wait ! Short scale = A true revolution for me; and this one is awesome.

I have always been a kind of introverted teen. And fact that i came back from 6 years of life in french Guyana in my birth country when i was 15 years old, i was completely disconnected from french life, "codes and rules" that were driving teens by this time. A lot of them even didn't know that french Guyana was existing. So I was like an alien for all others at school and they were all aliens to me too. That made me more introverted, living in my dreams. Then few years later, with one of very few friends i've had, we decided to start playing guitar. (Our fathers had each an old beaten guitar they didn't used since their teens ... ) And this first contact with an instrument has been a changing life day for me. I never stopped since. Started at 18 years old; i'm now 53. One of my two bands sank in july. The other one is like a zombie: sometimes he's living few days for one or two gigs, and then go back in the grave for 6 months. But i don't wait after it to stay in the game: I took a lot of pleasure and fulfilment by simply playing my bass. Noodling, transcribing, learn some ways to play to improve my musicianship. All is good as soon as i can play. It's my best medecine, and my fuel for life. And plan to continue until my body stop me.

Very graphic result. I dig it.

I discover the Michel Petrucciani with Anthony Jackson. I realize i was only knowing him playing with Michel Camilloand Hiromi.. A shame ! This live in Tokyo is my main listening since few days.

😞 Sad day... Just look at him play has made me re-start all my right hand technic from A to Z. I discovered him really with Hiromi and the trio project, and had the chance to see them live. What a music lesson... RIP Mr Jackson and thank you for all..
