1. a beginnery forum is a pretty neat idea - the kind of place beginners know their questions aren't too basic to be welcomed. however, will as many experienced players also be hanging around in there to answer them? i probably still count as a beginner but i personally found that jumping in the deep end and being surrounded by people much much more experienced than me was great for pushing me forward, and i am 100% sure that i wouldn't be playing like i am now if it wasn't for this place and the people i know as a result of that!
 2.
forget me nots....patrice rushen beat goes on....whispers
weird... me too! that and 'somebody told me' by the killers.

 5. my goodness, i would love this. 1980 is the year i was born, too... bah.
 6.
i should be collecting the finished bass next week
be careful. let someone else carry it, geoff.
 7.
And a new one to add to the list!!
wheeey! goddessdom, here you come! x
 8. hmmm. good question. how good am i? at bass? not very. i tend to want things immediately, and sometimes that is great as it puts me in a place where i absolutely believe i can do it - and the results are often fantastic. also it does mean i regularly get downers about my playing. the balance seems to be there, i need the downers to remind me how far i have to go. i was discussing this with a fellow BCer the other day, how my perception of what is good or not was vastly altered as i became a member of here and struck up friendships with people who (in my opinion) are infinitely better at playing bass than i am. also, this has led me to changing my music tastes, which has exposed me to better and better playing. before i was listening to mostly indie and britpop, and if i was to compare my playing now with 90% of that, i'm pretty good. but i'm not... i'm now comparing it with the best bass players in the world. (darn )
 9. all in and no out for me! 1 x musicman sterling 1 x random terrible unnamed fretless jobby (a gift for no reason at all) 1 x ampeg b-100r (will be an 'out' in 2009) 1 x genz benz shuttle 6 2 x aguilar gs112
 10.
That's a very cool track - so cool I had to try playing it straight away. I got about half way through before my plucking hand seized up, lol. And that octave riff just told me my bass is out of tune. *sigh*
hahaha! doubly good exercise then! triply good, even! x
 11. gimme some lovin' is a nice straightforward song! x
 12.
~ get it sorted and stop spewing your vitriolic bile over the pages of this forum.
Eloquent as ever x
 13. AM, we've been here before, people are trying to help you, please be nice. you may find the more you lose it in your replies, the less replies and help you'll get. you are lucky to be able to do this by ear. quickly learning these songs by ear and then transcribing them strikes me as an awesome way to develop more than one skill. learning to understand people speaking a new language is one thing, learning to speak it yourself is another, so transcribing would definitely help your reading, and not only that, you'd be helping others in the future by having them available.
 14.
Actaully I take it back there is one design I dislike..... now dont get me wrong I like HM and I like MOST of the HM orientated designs but this one just gets on my tits...... Its too damn fussy! The headstock looks like an afterbirth......
how would you play that without damaging yourself? mm... i'm not a fan of spiky basses. or singlecuts. they just look wrong to me. and i have never seen a gibson bass that i would allow to stay in my house. urgh.
 15.
I've been playing for 16 years, gigging for probably 12 (not including school bands etc.) and gigging with my current band for about 8 months and I'm stil s****ing myself before tonight's gig! It's the same before every gig! What's wrong with me?
i've seen quite a few people who have stuff around public speaking/performance type situations for therapy sessions. good ol' adrenaline has a lot to answer for! my suggestion would be to label the feelings you get as something other than 's****ing myself'. its possible that you are getting the same combination of feelings as another person who labels them, say, 'excitement' or 'thrill' and you and them may have entirely different responses to it as a result.
 16.
Anyway, just wanted to say hello and I get the feeling I may be asking for lots of advice, hope that's okay
hurrah! another girlie. big welcome to the forum. what a flippin' awesome christmas present! have fun finding your style, i thought i knew what mine was when i started but playing bass and being a member of this forum has opened up my mind to so much stuff i didn't even know existed before. enjoy mew x
 17.
This is an illogical leap... (snip)
At the same time, AM, Alex and MacDaddy have discussed it and the issue is resolved to the point where MD is happy to edit his original post. At times many of us say things we choose to edit or even retract and if MacDaddy and Alex are happy that seems like a good result.
 18. heh, things move fast around here, you blink, you miss something!
 19. Anne Marie has already dropped in a sorry, Tim.
 20.
I once got in a taxi and told the driver where I wanted to go. He said 'It will be six pounds'. I said 'OK'. He said 'Can you afford it?'. I must have looked bad.
awesome! i once went out with a friend and his friends, and i explained to one of them that i don't have a tv. when i went to the loo she whispered to my friend 'is she really poor that she doesn't have a tv?'. brilliant!
 21.
I didn't expect YOU to bother listening to the fact that I have an innate FEAR of going near a doctor. Practical advice on adapting/working around is what I am after, not your pathetic criticism.
oioi, take it easy AM, a lot of people are rallying round trying to help you here. in my experience, if you ask for advice here, you'll get a lot of different suggestions, some will be more helpful to you personally than others, but be sure that the intention is usually good behind all the replies. i think it was fairly clear some of the suggestions with a medical issue would be to seek medical help, so be aware of the likely answers when you post your questions, and be as full as you can with your queries, that way you get the most out of the thread. x
 22.
I would rather switch around and play the fretboard with my other hand, if the worst comes to the worst. Has anyone tried switching around, that is really what I am interested in, not repeatedly being told I should go to a doctor, when I have made it clear I inherently mistrust them.
yes, do that.
 23.
Listen to Mewsie, she's talking great sense.
mmm.. it does happen occasionally. usually by accident, like.
 24. heh. i used to be verrrry hung up on getting the bassline perfect to the original, and used to sit and listen to the song til i got it exact. now i am much more relaxed about it and will improvise a little, unless the bassline is really distinctive. the initial obsession has at least given me a good ear.
