I'm just about to quit a wedding/function band, because: 1) The guitarist.I HATE the way the guitarist plays. His attitude is terrible too. I can go into details on his playing - but in an effort to keep this post shortish, I won't! 2) we don't often practice as everyone knows the set and gig often. But, if we do practice, for a wedding or whatever, it's slack. The singer is staring at their phone whilst half arseing the vocals. 3) despite being the newest member, I do ALL the leg work, emails, calls and bookings. Over the last few months I've booked nothing as I've become disillusioned with it. My band mates actually moaned we didn't have any bookings, but none of them did anything about it! 4) The PA we use is terrible, but no one is willing to chip in for upgrades. And finally, 5) I've had an offer from another band. I suppose in summary, I want to be part of a professional outfit that sound and look good. Decent PA, lights, repertoire and great musicians. I worked hard to make my current band the premier functions outfit in our area; the rest of the band wanted it too, but don't want to work for it. Shame, as we've done some great gigs. But, an new opportunity has presented itself and I'll be about 75% less legwork for more of a reward... oh, and the guitarist knows knows how to play a diminished chord...

I don't have one, but before all the Hiscox recommendations come in (and rightly so) try find one to try for size before buying. They're a fraction too short for two different 5 string jazzes I've tried. I like the Gator GPE TSA too.

It could well be the string. I've recently had the same thing with La Bella DTF. It's where the windings aren't 100% tight. For me, I need a new A string, which they supplied. The rest still buzzed a touch but have become better with Fast Fret and being played. Apparently this is fairly common on double basses.

Yep. For nearly two years I've just had one bass. I'm starting to look at getting a second for another band that needs a different vibe. But, i much prefer not having a spare room full to the brim of cases. Also, thinking more about the way you play rarher than just reaching for another bass has been a good lesson.

I think it depends how you learn too. If you have good ears and know a bit of chord theory then working the basics out only takes a few minutes, for straight forward pop tunes anyway. Another reason the numbers system is so useful, is that many people can play parts brilliantly in the original key; but only in that key!

I don't have either anymore, but did have a Fueltank Jr velcro'd to the bottom of a Nano+, without modification.

Joe Osborn was a Jazz/La Bella guy, I think. I'm thinking of putting flats on an active 5 string jazz. Keen to give the Dunlops a go.

I'm interested in this too and was gonna fire off an email tonight to enquire. They quoted me $275 delivery for a hard case, so who knows. From my brief research, sending my MV5 guard off and having some one like SIMS use it as a template for having one made seems the easiest/best option. Out of interest, what are you after? I want a tortoiseshell for my Metro 5.

Resale will be fine if you buy 2nd hand. You'd take a big hit from buying new though. I had a Sandberg California VM5 Supreme, which was a cool bass. Not the most refined and a bit hefty. It was a great looker. Versatile and a range of useable tones too.

[/quote] I tired to get a maple board 2024x a couple of years ago, which sold pretty much the moment it went it to stock. I thought I was in there early doors, but someone must have pulled the trigger the second they saw it.

Only acceptable reason not to is because you're putting that cash towards a 2025!

Thanks for the replies. The Hiscox is getting sent back. As nice as it is, I'm going to look elsewhere rather than take a hammer to the padding of a new case. I'm thinking about just going back to a Fusion gig bag... but will hold out for a hard case as it will need to be back of the van proof. I'm going to try the SKB Pro. The same as the ones you get with Fender US Standards. Hopefully my bass's undersized jazz body will fit!

The whole 'x sells this so they wouldn't like Barefaced' argument is a bit tired. Plus, do Bass Gear actually carry Bergantino products anymore?

Looks great. I really like these. I also like that Fender supply a proper case.
