2.
Hello LIam, Is this you? Welcome to the forum. Cheers Leen.
Are you mad! He's not playing a guitar! Some people Welcome Liam. You play every instrument that i have on my radar! Well done you I'm a massive Flea/RHCP fan. And there are plenty more on this forum. Dot Hacker... Doesn't Josh Klinghoffer play in that band? If you want a Flea sound, i just got the best flea sound i've ever had. OLP MM (can be gotten cheap, but try and get a korean one, they are much better!), wire the pickup in series, and a set of ProSteels! It's bloody brilliant! Anyway, welcome. Have a look around. We don't bite
 3.
Posted tomorrow morning...? Er... yes, of course.
Good man
 4.
Oh, I'm very sorry. Schoolboy stuff. Have a doughnut.
f*** yes, got a doughnut out of it! I expect it to be posted tomorrow morning, yes?
 5.
'What iz your name?' 'Don't tell him Pike!'
Haha, that's funny, but where's it from? I realise i may have just made myself a social outcast.
 6.
Why would any band want to name themselves after sterilising fluid?
dat hurtz mah feelungs.
 7. Aye, can you guess what it is from the title? This is the project i want to start next. But i'm having a little trouble deciding the fine details, but more on that after i explain the general idea. Ok, so as you might expect, it's a pairing of Jazz bass and MusicMan bass of sorts. Basically, it's a Jazz bass, with a MusicMan pickup between the 2 Jazz pickups. (I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.) That's the general idea. I want it to have lots of mids, the MM pup in series should take care of this. The Jazz pickups should pick up the rest of the bass and treble. But what pickups do i use? Well, I was thinking of the SD SMB4A for the MM, which is a 3 coil (God knows why 3) alnico pickup, hot wound. LINK!- http://www.seymourdu...smb4a_5a_3coil/ For the Jazz pickups, i'm thinking of the SD Hot Stacks, which are stacked humbucking Jazz pickups, wound hot, which should give good treble response. LINK! http://www.seymourdu...tkj2_hot_for_j/ Now i'm looking for input on this. The body has to be built too. I'm thinking Ash, because i have no concerns about weight, but harder woods give a more bassy tone, and lighter woods have more treble. I would say Ash was a soft working hardwood. Definitely doesn't have the same density as something like mahogany, or oak (an oak bass would be fantastic!), but not light and airy like alder. So should sound pretty bassy/middy. Things that i absolutely can't decide on- Controls and preamp. I'm not entirely sure if i should fit a preamp or not. And i like to keep controls to a minimum. I don't like coil switches, because it limits what you can do. Oh yes, i also want a parallel/series switch for the Jazz pups. What do you guys think? Anything there sound fairly unreasonable?
 8. I've got dibs on "Milton"... so don't use that one, alright? are we all in agreement? Ok, cool.
 9.
I've got a pre AS (Armitage Shanks) era Bongo if you are interested in a trade.
I have one of those in my bathroom. Does a very good job. A bit cold sometimes mind you.
 10. If i come round and buy this, will you make some dinner for me? My mum's away on holiday.
 11.
Can anyone recommend any bass tutors in the Leeds area?
I believe there is a thread for tutors. hang on... Nope, couldn't find it. Your best bet is to probably go into one of the other sub forums and post there looking a teacher.
 12.
Rotosound is one of BC's advertisers.
Yes, and didn't a couple of the head honchos visit the factory too?
 13.
I meant the preamp on your amp
Ah, that makes more sense
 14.
James, I would try contacting one of the BC admins to see if they can ask companies to help on your behalf- asking as Basschat, and mentioning our website/Twitter/Facebook channels will probably get more attention than asking as yourself.
This is very wise! They also have a connection with rotosound already, don't they? I prefer D'Addario's, but i'll probably not be playing the bass
 15.
Milty, I think that the benefits you will reep from adding a MM pickup in between the two jazz pickups are outweighed by the cost and hassle of doing it. I think you'll get roughly the same sort of sound by blending the two Jazz pickups, turning your preamp up and EQing a little. But thats just my opinion, don't let me put you off experimenting!
Really? There is no preamp. I was thinking of sorting thing bass, then building another Jazz from scratch with the MM pickup. Maybe even back mounted pots... now i'm really excited!
 16.
I did also email Rotosound about the relay asking if they'd be willing to donate a few sets of strings, but it looks like my message has been ignored.
You could try D'Addario. They would probably offer up a few sets for some advertisement.
 17. Although, i would prefer proper footage. Mobile phone camera's these days aren't bad i suppose. But it would probably be easier for me to be looking at a stack of DVD's with dates on them as opposed to a pile of file names.
 18.
Great idea, would help with guinness world records too. If people cant get a full track recorded, I imagine lots of short mobile video clips could work and would be easier to mix together?
Well, i've just talked to my cousin in portsmouth who i told to attend your gig! He said he could get some footage if he gets a camera. But i wouldn't count on that. If he gets some footage, it will only be another perspective from yours i think.
 19. Yes, as i'm sure most of you will agree, a jazz can sound... thin, especially with the lack of mids in there. You can get alot of bit from the bridge, and alot of thump from the mid pickup, but it just always seems to have the one flat response through the mids then either treble or bass either end of it. I want the mids that being in series should bring. I had another idea to make a jazz body, but put a MM pickup between the standard single coil pickups. MM in series, single coils in para/series switchable? Let's go further. How about stacked single coils, so they are also hum buckers in there own right? Wow, i really need mental help Having this much time on your hands isn't good for the wallet
 20. I think if everyone records their gig, and then puts it onto a DVD (remember to label the DVD with name, date and gig) and send it over to me, I'll try and make it into something good to watch.
 21.

Eh?
 22. I've just been directed to this thread by a certain spanish/scottish friend of ours. Could i suggest that people involved in the relay record themselves with the bass. So that would mean setting up with the bass, a few words about who/what/where/when and then gig footage. I would be happy to edit it all together in a montage sort of thing.
 23.
Hi disgruntled people when i shop, i hate assistants pestering me, i like to try things, if i like them, i buy them, that is how run The Gallery, we are a shop and there to make money, if you come in and tell me, i'd like to try things but i'm not buying anything, i'm not really sure what people expect of me. I don't just deal with sales, i have to do internet, photos, accounts, amongst other things so i have always lots to do, i will always answer question, i'm not sure why it matters if i'm chatty or not, if you are after buying gear i'll happily sell it to you, i'm not sure why it matters if i'm all sweetness and light. I'm not a robot, i have good days, bad days, And yes as mentioned i do feel bad if people aren't happy with their visit! On the plus side i will be leaving, so all those people that said they would not come back because of the way they where treated, can come back. Re prices we do price match regardless if we have the item in stock. alex
If i'm ever in London, i will be checking out The Gallery, and i can understand you taking this personally, and being a bit upset about it (couldn't blame you for that) and i can even understand you being busy, but some people like to be left to their own devices, like yourself, and some like a bit of small talk thrown in, which seems to be the general feeling on this thread. I think with bigger purchases, people might expect to be a bit more fussed over. Personally, if i'm looking at accessories, i like to be left to my own devices, but if i was genuinely looking to buy an instrument, i want to try it out, then have somebody go over all the specs and everything with me. Of course by that stage i would generally know if i was going to buy or not. Of course, we all have good days and bad days. It's hard to smile and make small talk when you have the weight of the world on your shoulders. I would view this as a bit of feedback, but if you are moving on soon, it probably doesn't matter that much to you. Good luck with whatever you go on to do next.
 24.
I'm probably a bit frustrated at living so close to the ultimate "sweet shop" only for the sweets to taste a bit like "raw cabbage"
In my opinion, having them taste like raw cabbage is far better than having them taste like boiled/steamed cabbage.
 25.
Please don't be a smart arse and check my Ebay deals, as you may find out the bass I have put on here at £999, I bought on EBAY two weeks ago for £675. (no, not me, just giving an example)
Now i know this is frowned upon within BC, but i really don't understand if the guy bought it from Ebay and wants to sell it on.
