Recently our singer texted me at 1am to tell me the drummer had to change the practice night. I had gone to bed and the text alert woke me up, but luckily not Mrs Mep. I frantically texted him back telling him not to text so late. He was drunk and had just rememberd to let me know. I leave my phone on at night for the alarm.
I did this to my old boss one night. Unfortunately for me, i was too drunk to remember, and the text looked something like this- "Y u no like me, you dick?" I got a bollocking for it, but thankfully, i thought he was a **** anyway, and didn't care
Hello, Played in many Bands over the years....enjoyed most of them....The latest venture is a Rock Covers Band...all in our late 40s and early 50s apart from our drummer who's in his 30s....so you'd think we'd know better...one of our members as got an annoying habit of ignoring texts messages...some important like gigs or support slots, some just well wishing "hi mate how's it goin" sort of thing texts....i find this behaviour rather baffling, annoying and plain rude....or am i just been an 'over reactionary old git'??
I've been here. In my experience, most people read it, understand, but choose to reply later, but a lot of the time forget to reply. Yeah, it's not ideal, but some people are busy (or let on to be) and i don't think they are doing it to be ignorant at all. Maybe they think it's ignorant of you to text in the middle of the day while they are working? who knows. I just kept texting until i annoyed them enough that they replied.
"Bring the drums" Yup! The DG10 was from 1983 & didn't have the MIDI out socket. Same mandolin noise & dodgy drum fill tho! I shall take some pics tonight for you lot
Ah that's great! It would be cool if you did a little cover with it too and put it on YouTube, just a though -
Just cannot find them funny, a good friend of mine was massively into them and kept playing me their songs and making watch the show and the overriding feeling was always, 'when does the funny start?' I kind of expected Spinal Tap and ended up with hipsters.
Sorry, this is the "Flight Of The Conchords APPRECIATION thread". Basschat Competition Bass (13 Guitar Co.) - CONCLUSION!
MiltyG565 replied to Skol303's topic in Build Diaries
Hi folks, Quick update on this project: the woods and construction type have been decided (see above) and the materials are now on order. This gives some time for me to start pondering what sort of pick ups and EQ would best suit this bass... Paul (13 Guitar Co) has offered lots of very useful advice on this already. And as always, I'll be trusting his own judgement on what's best. But in the spirit of this project I also wanted to get some feedback from fellow Basschatters on what you'd recommend, or what you've found works well on the basses you own. So... what are your thoughts and suggestions for choice of pickups? Paul has been helpful in giving me some things to think about, which I'll share here too. He's described the pickups and strings as being crucial for the overall 'sound' of the instrument, whereas the woods and construction contribute to its natural EQ and envelope (attack, sustain and decay). I think in terms of mixing audio, so this description made good sense to me. Overall, I'm looking for a warm, low tone from this bass - more bottom end than top/treble. I play fingerstyle (rarely use a pick and almost never slap). The sound I have in my head is akin to modern dub/reggae recordings... I'll try to put together some audio samples or YouTube clips and upload them here, as that's probably the best way of communicating the sound I'm envisaging (rather than calling it "fat" or whatever ). Here are some useful links that Paul has shared on this topic, which might interest some of you: http://www.notreble....ing-your-sound/ http://www.frudua.co...ickups_work.htm Comments and suggestions very welcome as always!
To me, it would have to be single coil pickups. I find the difference between a humbucker and a single coil is that fatness you describe, but also more pronounced highs, which you obviously don't want. As far as winds a materials go, i'm not entirely sure. More winds gives a pickup more response, so maybe a pickup with slightly less winds than average is what you want? I wouldn't know what sort of copper winding you would use though, early fender pickups used one called heavy formvar, but if you are going down the single coil route, at this point, you might as well get a couple of reissue pickups made. Unless both coils on a humbucker had less winds than usual, it might give it less response in the high range and maintain the fatness of it... it's worth a chat with an expert on it. -
Well, i've recorded my bass a couple of times. Luckily, both my amps have a DI out on them, so it's pretty easy, here's how i do it. I plug in my bass and amp as normal, set it up normally, although keep the "input" volume low- this is the volume of the preamp, the part of the amp that is actually being used when DI'd. So then i plug my XLR lead into the DI out on the amp, and it goes right into the audio interface, which has a female XLR on it, so i plug the XLR lead in there. Then there is a lead that runs from the interface to the USB connection on my Mac, this powers it and also allows the information to be transferred. Then i go into audio/midi set-up (it's in the applications folder) and change the drivers to the one for my audio interface. That's it in a nutshell really. If you don't have a bass amp with a DI out, then you should pick up a DI box. Very handy to have, you can get decent ones from £20/£30, or really good ones for £250, and pretty much everything in between. It depends on what you want it for. Just recording? Just get a fairly decent cheap one.

Hello! welcome! Tips for a beginner? Listen to a song before you try and learn it. listen, listen, listen, listen and then listen again. Know that bassline in your head before you try and play it. Also never underestimate the value of practice! in between sessions of listening, practice, practice, practice! If you have any more specific questions, just post them somewhere, nearly anybody could give you a good answer here.
OH YES! Huge Conchords fan here. Was lucky enough to see them live in Manchester a couple of years ago. "Dad guitar".
It's comedy! It just struck me as a bit like saying "has anyone seen that Monty python thing?" Obviously most people will have seen it and laughed a lot as it is a very successful show which has spawned hollywood actors. Not to be taken too seriously. I'm just pulling your leg of course.
Eh, go on to Spotify, they have 3 albums up there. I think it's safe to assume it's music. Not gonna lie, they are also a comedy act, but so are Tenacious D, they have made movies and albums. -
