1. bought this bass from Robin Ruscio last year, selling off tons of instruments to finance a Fodera. update: I had the bass re-fretted. The old frets were polished by a luthier I won't be using again, as he polished the frets down to nothing! I'm done with that guy. The new frets were put on by a better, if more expensive, luthier. Now there's fret material for decades of playing! I've had several Roscoes and this is tied for the best one, with the white ash bodied SKB3005. The top is fairly rare, the body is Spanish cedar. End result: very full tone, with a sweeter c-string than most 35" basses. Works reeeally well for most fingerstyle genres. Also has Roscoe barts, Demeter pre-amp. 35" scale, 18,3 mm string spacing, the famous Roscoe neck, and one of the very best B-strings around. I've had Dingwalls, and Roscoe can take Dingwall. In comparison to most Roscoes, this one has a fuller tone due and nicer top end/not too rumbly low end due to the Demeter pre and the cedar body. Aguilars tend to have shrill top and muddy thundery lows, the Demeter has glassy highs and clean, full lows. And the Demeter doesn't have a papery, squicky clean character at all. Nice! Ergonomics: Roscoe has some of the best ergonomics around. From the way it balances to the neck dimensions to body contours, nothing detracts from playing. edit: Robin gigged this one a LOT. All in all, in good condition, but it has been gigged. I went over the bass very carefully. There are the usual superficial scratches you get with modern finishes. No dings or dents anywhere on the bass. The frets are now brand new and are done to Mike Tobias level of quality. Everything is in full working order. Comes with a gig bag. Back for sale. Comes with a v nice undercover gig bag.Traded. Would be happy to take more photos for interested parties. Also have some soundclips demonstrating the traditional Roscoe tone in a bossa/swing trio. Trade-wise, something cheap and nasty, or Fodera, or W&T, or Adamovic, or Leduc, or Noguera, or Skjold would be interesting.
2. Took this one in trade with the intention to sell, so. A nice, affordable extended range bass. Surprisingly playable, has very good, usable tone. I have no idea as to the specs, but I think the string spacing is 17 mm-ish, the scale is probably 34". What I do know it's easy to play, balances really well thanks to that long upper horn, and would fit right in on most kinds of groovy music. http://www.conklingu...oove_tools.html http://www.conklingu...electronics.pdf More pics: http://s626.photobuc...5/ConklinGTBD7/ As you may see on the pics, there's been some repairs done on the bass. I think the luthier did a VERY good job, and the bass should be good for years to come. Comes with a gig bag. Asking GBP800 plus shipping or 850 shipped, at buyer's preference.
3. bought Rainer's WT Chronos. Rocking bass, rockinger seller! Much recommended!
4. Bought Torben's Stambaugh, and it's just as good or better as he told me! Torben's a great guy and dealing with him is a pleasure!
5. Yup, defo love KB. I just wish there was something I could use to strong-arm my favourite songbirds to do 'Wuthering Heights', 'Babooshka', 'Running Up That Hill', 'Sat in Your Lap' combined with 'Rhiannon' 'I Don't Want to Know' 'You Make Loving Fun' 'Second Hand News' 'Go Your Own Way' 'Blue Letter' / 'Crucified' 'Cornflake Girl' 'Little Earthquakes' 'Silent All These Years' ... I'd play that set for free, goddamnit. I'd be crying or have shivers running up and down my spine through the set - well worth the trouble of driving/load-in/play/load-out/drive...
6. As I understand it, mr. Celinder does not build custom basses any more, but his Celinder Update series is well-known. Lovely, fat tone (sort of Brubaker-Smith love child-ish thing), easy to play, not too compressed... Am selling as I want to focus on a couple of basses - the MTD is more aggressive, the Fodera is more old-school with it's Aero jazz pups. Oh, and the B string is VERY slappable! I think this bass could be described as a Brubaker-Smith lovechild. I'll snap another pic of the top, the camera shook during the shot. Pics: http://s626.photobuc...l0405/Celinder/ Here's what Peter said about this bass earlier this spring, all of which still holds true, with the addition that the string spacing is adjustable and I think it might go as far as 18,5 even. 18,3 mm for sure.
I'm selling my custom built 6-string bass handmade by Christian Celinder in his workshop in Copenhagen (Denmark) in '97. The neck is standard lenght (34"), 24 frets, bolt on, 5-piece neck (3 x maple + 2 x purpleheart). Fretboard is ebony. The body is Danish ash with a top of quilted maple. Pickups are Celinders own handspun C6DC's with ebony covers. The preamp is the Aguilar ODP-3 (18v) with vol, vol (pull/push active/passive), bass, mid (2-band switchable), treble. The control knobs are all ebony. String spacing @ bridge: 17,5mm (center string to center string) String spacing @ nut: 10,0mm (center string to center string) Celinder isn't building his fantastic basses anymore. Back in the day you had to wait for 2 years or more to receive your instrument. I'm the 2nd owner. It's 99% mint condition, only cosmic wear. Absolutely NO deep scratches, nothing. Hiscox Lite Flite hardcase included. Basses in the same league could be custom F Bass, Fodera and Alembic. This is a one-of-a-kind bass, there is no other Celinder bass with these specs. As far as I know this is the only Custom 6 with a 34" neck ever made, all others have 36" necks. The pics don't justify the beauty of the instrument. Price when bought from Celinder: 6.400$
I'm interested in whatever trade offers - Trading up to a Fodera would be particularly interesting. Apart from that, any fair trade is fine. Asking price is what I paid, USD2775 - I had my luthier check the nut height and adjust it, it was too low to let the lowest positions speak properly.
7. Relisted, there's a Fodera 6 available I want to make a bid for. I ordered a new MTD that'll be custom made for me and while I'm waiting for it to arrive, I want to give the Fod a real go so I can choose definitively between the two, so I'm selling off everything else. This is a great example of Mike Tobias' genius. I have two MTDs, have played a third, and this one has the biggest tone of three, if also the least grizzle and sizzle. The woods are alder and bloodwood for the body, maple and ebony for the neck. As you would expect, the bass has a full body of note, with clear hi mids and highs. Lots of attack, too, not compressed at all - I just wanted something a little different (chambers in the body, piezo in the bridge etc etc) so. Unlike most hi-end basses, this bass is very uncompressed. What you play comes through. I haven't played many active basses that let me add the odd pop while playing a fingerstyle line, this one does that. OTOH, my mistakes get heard as well! This was what made me order the next one that will have even MORE dynamics! I'd say this bass is as good a modern-voiced active bass as you can get, I've had all the big names except Alembic, so I've some experience. I definitely like the fact that I don't need to fiddle with the knobs in search of good tone. Oh, and the ergonomics/playability is the best in business, I think. The bloodwood is much more attractive in the flesh, it's one of those woods that are satanically hard to get to photo well. The bass is in mint condition and comes with the MTD hard case. Now asking 2450 quid incl shipping. Both the bloodwood top and ebony board carry a hefty upcharge these days. Pics at http://s626.photobuc...35%20bloodwood/
8. d'oh! You're right, it's in the desc. I've never seen a Presentation in Europe, but there must be one somewhere...
9. I'll add to the choir, but with a discordant note I'm afraid: this isn't an AJ presentation. Anthony Jackson presentations are described in more detail here http://www.fodera.com/main/BassModels.aspx?SeriesID=9 . Notable is the 36" scale, which has been one of mr. Jackson's absolute must have features for decades now. According to him, that scale just speaks better, but 35" is the commercial maximum: 'sh*t's gotta sell' says he. However, to turn this around: I have an earlier AJ contrabass guitar, and I find that the 36" is not at all necessary for a fantastic B string: look at Roscoes! I'm fairly sure that for most players, the 34" scale that this bass has is (much) better than the 36".
10. bump for new photos! Bad lighting today, but I figured a straight-on shot would be nice to have.
11. We traded basses. Pierre is great to deal with, recommended!
12. Thanks for the comments - yes, it IS stunning. I'll try to catch the grain in good lighting today. Also, clarified the trade options a little.
13. I don't slap enough to justify keeping this, since we have very limited space for my gear at our place. edited to add: I'm a sixes player otherwise, but they are a little more difficult to slap cleanly on. But, since I don't get paid to sound like a knitting factory, the sixes get taken to gigs. This is an example of the older MTD basses, that had different pickups from those Mike uses nowadays. You can hear the tone of these pickups in Norm Stockton's playing (and this bass sounds close to his, but thanks to the maple board, not as 'pingy') The woods are avadoire/maple for the body and wenge/maple for the neck. Very spanky but thicker than you'd have with all wenge neck and/or current MTD electronics. Everything's fully functional! More pics at http://s626.photobuc...kl0405/MTD/535/ - the pics show every little ding on the bass. None on the face or back of the neck, luckily! Asking 2600 quid, as the avadoire was a rarer and pricier option, and you can't get these thicker sounding pickups any more. Comes with the MTD case that's in good condition. Tradewise, I'd be interested in either a six-string bass (+cash, more than likely) or something that's easy to sell (the brand is desirable and/or the trade value is set low).
14. Got this from mr. Ganseman here. Great bass, but I made the terrible realization that I'm too used to six strings and don't want to switch between the two, which is the reason I'm putting it up for sale so soon again. Here's the FS thread.http://basschat.co.u...wal-basses-mk2/ From that thread (quote) Anyway, let's stop the bla bla.... The red wal : 1987 Mahogany body Olive facings Indian rosewood fingerboard Gold hardware Gloss finish On this bass, the gloss/gold hardware and red paint would all be extra and would literally cost you a kidney.... [endquote] More pics at http://s626.photobuc...2/prkl0405/Wal/ The bass is in very good to excellent condition, I'll try to get a decent photo of the very slight discoloration on the heel. Hard to get it to show properly. Other than that, the finish is absolutely fantastic, never seen its like. No issues that I can detect. Comes with the Wal case. Asking about 2800 pounds but would of course listen to any offers. I think I'm pretty well set as far as music stuff goes, but a trade down to a stingray or two + cash would of course work well. I'm leaving for a conference tomorrow, June the 27th, but can ship today or tomorrow or Tuesday next week.
15. Yup! Is southern rock even funky? If it is, there are many bands to catch, for Zappa fans Whipping Post is a must... Anything with Nuno Bettencourt, RATM? More data please!
16. (drunkposting! But! I'm a Finn, we're at our best drunk!)
That type of groove is just not about 16th's, it's about 16th's that swing.
Yeah I don't get it, why don't people f***ing swing those notes?!! Seriously, at some gigs I meet these guys who have technique and EARS to play any gig in Finland, but my Volvo V70 swings harder than them. (though to be completely honest, it does swing quite a bit compared to what the wife drives, she's a demon into rear-wheel driven German cars ) It's not like playing a great groove is the hardest thing on Earth is it? Just f***ing play it.
17. Here's what Brad Johnson said about this bass: Very nice bass. Just an FYI. Should be 34 5/8" scale unless it was a special order. The basic electronics package is the Bart NTMB with volume (pull up for passive), balance, bass, treble and push-pull mids (choose between two center frequencies by pulling up the control). The three way toggle chooses between: 1. dual coil bridge and neck 2. dual coil bridge/single coil neck and 3. Single coil bridge and neck. There's also an internal gain control. The output can be set pretty hot compared to most other basses. You can check it by listening to to volume in active vs. passive mode. If they're close to each other it's set very low, if its way louder in active, its set fairly high. I run mine at about 75% gain for a hot output. I like the attention the massive headroom gets me Personal note: I checked this bass out before it shipped. The coolest thing about this bass, which is all Maple is that it has stronger low mids than Ash so you can cop Steve's fingerstyle vibe, kick the toggle into dual coil and get in Malcolm Hall's slap zone or sound nothing like either one of them. The all Maple basses combine the aggressiveness of Ash with a more Alder like punch simultaneously if you want. That's why my main gigging Brubakers have Maple bodies and this electronics package. Put a good set of light gauge stainless steel roundwounds on and watch out. I highly reccommend this bass. 18.
Twas my bass, excellent instrument but didn't work for me with a high c. Sorry you didn't like it David, someone will end up with a great bass here. Btw, the rim 6 is working out great!
Ah, so you ended up with the Marseer 6? Shoulda bought it back off David and thrown in the extra Roscoe-specced Demeter I have. I'm fairly sure that would've solved the only issue I had with it. (Aguilar pre being that issue)
