1. Edited for clarity: I'm taking a break from music. Please don't offer trades unless your offer leaves me better off (in the economics sense) than taking cash would. I do not need more basses, I'm selling my music gear. Let's reflect this preference by assigning a trade value of 1500 pounds on the bass. Yes, that is intentionally double the cash price. Edit: so, here's an audio clip. Bump for rock tones. I'm mostly trying to demonstrate that this bass has powerful controls. Someone was kind of interested and then said that Overwaters do not have enough range in the bass boost/cut. Well, there's a bit in the audio clip where I go from 0 to +max and then 0 to -max. No account for taste, but I've very seldom heard pres with more powerful bass controls. Bought this from Tayste earlier this year. Very fine fiver, but trying to cut down and I NEED sixers. I don't need a five. Very slim and playable neck, great ergonomics all round. Walnut body, maple top, maple neck rosewood (? I'll check) board. 36" gives this bass an excellent B string, one of the VERY few B's that are just as slappable as you'd expect a good 4-stringer's E to be. Also, walnut body. This bass has a very weighty and authoritative tone. Full and punchy at the same time. No mud. Versatile. (Hey, Overwater electronics!) Here's a link to Tayste's FS ad over at another forum with additional info and pics. 2. edit: Aight, back up for SALE. I'm moving and want to have as little stuff to schlep as poss so I'm a motivated seller. The bass was set up last in August by my luthier. I'm looking for TRADED pounds in cash, or whatever in trades, though, as I write above, I'm not very interested in having stuff for the sake of having stuff, because of the impending move. Well, I traded this back, now letting it go for a second time. My custom frankenbass and the MTD(s) are more me. In excellent condition. My luthier checked everything and the bass plays really (really, really) well. Otherwise, it's the same as a year ago. Here's what I said about it then: As I understand it, mr. Celinder does not build custom basses any more, but his Celinder Update series is well-known. Lovely, fat tone (sort of Brubaker-Smith love child-ish thing), easy to play, not too compressed... I heard he designed these as a tribute to Ken Smith. Oh, and the B string is VERY slappable! Pics: http://s626.photobuc...r?sort=3&page=1 Here's what Peter said about this bass earlier this spring, all of which still holds true, with the addition that the string spacing is adjustable and I think it might go as far as 18,5 even. 18,3 mm for sure.
I'm selling my custom built 6-string bass handmade by Christian Celinder in his workshop in Copenhagen (Denmark) in '97. The neck is standard lenght (34"), 24 frets, bolt on, 5-piece neck (3 x maple + 2 x purpleheart). Fretboard is ebony. The body is Danish ash with a top of quilted maple. Pickups are Celinders own handspun C6DC's with ebony covers. The preamp is the Aguilar ODP-3 (18v) with vol, vol (pull/push active/passive), bass, mid (2-band switchable), treble. The control knobs are all ebony. String spacing @ bridge: 17,5mm (center string to center string) String spacing @ nut: 10,0mm (center string to center string) Celinder isn't building his fantastic basses anymore. Back in the day you had to wait for 2 years or more to receive your instrument. I'm the 2nd owner. It's 99% mint condition, only cosmic wear. Absolutely NO deep scratches, nothing. Hiscox Lite Flite hardcase included. Basses in the same league could be custom F Bass, Fodera and Alembic. This is a one-of-a-kind bass, there is no other Celinder bass with these specs. As far as I know this is the only Custom 6 with a 34" neck ever made, all others have 36" necks. The pics don't justify the beauty of the instrument. Price when bought from Celinder: 6.400$
3. Bump. Been on the fence, selling everything I don't have to keep. Need to free up the room my stuff occupies.
4. This is a truly brilliant six. One of the best I've had.
5. Thanks for all the trade offers, this is now gone pending.
6. Sure have. Here's the link to photobucket: http://s626.photobucket.com/user/prkl0405/library/MTD/635-21_153
7. Er, I wasn't going to sell this, but I got a bad case of GAS. Ok, GAS is released, but the apartment is just too small. Now asking pounds, incl. shipping. This is an older MTD - the main difference is the neck. It's easily the best neck I've ever had in a bass. Slim and comfortable. You can play for hours on this at breakneck speed. What makes this a bit of a rarity is the woods. Older MTDs often have wenge in the neck, and the sound of wenge doesn't work for me at all. This has all maple neck, ash body, amboyna burl top. That classic ash-maple combo again. Many people who haven't heard this bass thell me that MTDs are sizzly, shrill, cold or whatever. Nope. This bass fits right in a funk, blues, soul, rnb, jazz, Twisted Sister, whatever. Does NOT stick out in a mix in a bad way, this stands out in a good way . You can do fatness and/or punch. 21 frets for fat slap tone on E & B strings. Uncompressed attack. I can't stand many boutique makes now, they are far too compressed. Also, it's a light at 3,9kgs/[s]6.6 [/s]8.5 pounds google doesn't understand comma as a separator lol and it's an extremely well-balanced bass. To summarize the good: I believe it's got the best ergonomics you can have in a six-string and a more classic tone than any other MTD I've heard. Can do a credible Jaco tone or a Motown tone - can also do a Marcus-ish slap tone. Ok, the bad & the ugly: the bass has play wear. The frets are not AS NEW - but do not require a polish even at my level of perfectionism. There are small dings on the edges of the body and 1 small ding on the back. The top has no dings at all. The bass originally came with an experimental (I think) high voltage pre-amp that had an external PSU. The socket for the PSU was fairly big, and the bass was modded to then current MTD spec by Mr. Tobias, and the socket hole was plugged up. The hole is in the edge of the bass, faving the floor in playing position. (And the craftsmanship of the repair/modding is, of course, of the highest order) Will take more pics today or tomorrow.
8. Ok, time to move this bass. It's a good example of F-Bass quality, I've had 5 and this is at the better end of the spectrum. Ash-maple is a killer combo. Ash body, maple neck, birdseye maple board. F-Bass humbucking pickups, has coil splitting with very believable jb tone - or, rather, has great JB tone, with a usable HB mode for when you want that. The eq gets a special mention for being very gig-friendly. Not fiddly at all. And the passive tone control is a loved feature on jb-clones for a reason! This was made in 2007 and the previous owner played it a lot, so there's play wear, a few dings, and some fret wear. I get a really, really, low buzzfree action. 34,5" scale, 19mm spacing. Excellent balance because of the long upper horn. I think 1600 pounds shipped with the F-Bass hard-ish gig bag is the best price you can find one of these going for on the net right now. Great bass, needs to be out there working. More pics at http://s626.photobuc...5/library/FBass

10. A great MTD 635 with a rare wood combo. This one has makore/mango body and maple neck with Honduran rosewood board. Compared to the alder/bloodwood/maple/ebony and the black limba/redwood/maple/ebony, this bass has, of course much more polite and sweet high end. MTDs with ebony boards can need some taming to sit in a mix, this bass worked quite well in a jazz trio. The body of the note has lots of definition and solidity. The low end is well-defined, if not as deep as some other combos might have. (Walnut maybe?) This is the most flexible of the MTDs I've had, and sits easiest in a traditional mix. The traditional MTD aggrssion is only present if you bump the highs and/or harden your attack, but it IS there when you want it. But, I've got my old 21 fret 635 that I just love to bits - it's raunchy, in your face, just perfect for my very light technique. And, there's the Marilyn that does more subdued and complex tones that I ordered new for me, so it's never going anywhere. This one feels a little superfluous tbh. Has the MTD World logo, Evo Gold frets, mint condition new style MTD hard case. Sold pending payment seems fair to me based on the mint condition, recent serial number and rare wood combo. Would cost a fair bit to get one new! 11. We traded MTDs. Everything went swimmingly - Giorgios is forthright, trustworthy and communicates well, with clarity and speed. Now, I just have to figure out how to buy my 635 back from him!
12. Trade-wise I'm mostly interested in very, very, ordinary stuff that's easy to peddle on. But you never know, I'm looking for an electric guitar at the moment just as an example.
13. Sold pending payment! All right - I'm now more motivated to move this.I found out I DID need 5 strings for certain gigs, but they dried up, and the upright gigs I've got left are local so everybody drives their own car. The pickup tone is very uncoloured, I've never had as good a tone from any pickup system I've had on the URB. Perhaps 4000 pounds shipped is a more reasonable price, after all. Would also consider partial trades.
14. Okay, I'm more motivated to move this now AND I'm in a more functional state as well, so I'll be able to actually reply to PMs within 48 hours. Could see myself knocking the price down a little & throwing in some strings.
15. Sublime eh? I submit this guitar solo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8ZhN_qoI1s
16. Just came across this fairly recent rendition of a classic. https://www.youtube....h?v=HzAb-FVQCJg Pete T. isn't as deep in the pocket as I'd like, but ... everyone else is just SO relaxed and together. I love it. My verdict: I think the drummer's got a fairly decent sense of time. (hehe). The bass, starting from the tone, isn't a deep in the pocket kind of affair, but the whole works so well.
17. Yeah, I'm bonding with the MTDs more each week. Selling the bn6 and this one. -bump
18. The tax-free trade area was one of the central benefits of the EU - or EC, as it was called those days - funny that you should be unaware of it... But then, you DO live in Britain!
19. I should probably mention that I had no trouble with the bass in a mix. (Edit: Bolt-on! =) This bass passes the Rosanna test admirably) I was selling stuff to buy a Fodera singlecut, then I got my 635-21 in trade and I'm done with buying, except for perhaps a few MTDs more...
20. I'll check up on the year and measure the scale!
21. I really liked this bass. As Andy said, the neck is magical.
