1. It's still unsold / untraded, though there are a couple of pretty nice trade offers - thing is, none of the trade offers have blown my socks off...
2. Ash-Walnut Ash-Maple is a combo Mike really likes, and I do, too. This bass has lots of growl and snap and low-mid authority. The B-string is the best out of any MTD I've had. Extremely good playability, sits well in a mix, lots of attack... This is the MTD to buy if you need one that will also work for rock and blues. Since I'm a gospel bassist now, I'm keeping my gospel-voiced MTD and selling this as I'm relocating for work reasons. Specs: 35" scale 24 frets ash body walnut burl top ash neck maple fretboard serial # 1620 18,3mm string spacing at bridge 4,7 kg / 10 lb 6 oz Comes with an MTD hard case. gone.
3. Well, this would be a fine bass to make the transition due to the narrow neck. Also, for those worried about wimpy c-strings: the c-string has a thick tone. All in all, the bass has a big, bold, meaty tone, not the dreadful small big tone that some high end basses suffer from.
4. Little and less luck with lightning. Also, I no longer have that black leather sofa... Here's a link to Brams's ad that has some photos. http://www.talkbass.com/threads/tobias-classic-6-462-relist.1079453/
5. Edit: For trades, I'm open to discussing anything, really. But I'd like to get some cash out of the trade. Edited on Jan 27th: aight, wanna move this. 1950 pounds shipped to European locations. Will take more photos for serious buyers. Well, this is a great bass, but I NEED that MTD bite! Some call them cold and sterile and I say I like'em that way. This Tobias isn't a good stand-in for Modulus, Zon or Status with their relatively cold tones, but if you're looking for a bass that's REALLY high end yet has a rounder, FATTER, sound, this is it. Kinda like a Smith, Roscoe or a Fender when it comes to sitting in the mix but larger bottom end. Doesn't suffer from that big small tone that's all too common in high end basses. edit: I've dinked around, and I'll say this: if this had the same scale length and string spacing as my MTDs have, this would be saying. This is 34"/17ish, while my MTD 635s are 35" 19mm. My custom built "60s JB meets A. Jackson" is 36"/20mm!!! as that's my preference these days. Even as it is, the superb tone for groove stuff almost makes this a keeper, but I just play too many bum notes on this bass and don't wanna give up playing my custom built one. Quoting from Brams's thread, since he described the bass better than I could.
This is the best bass by Michael I ever played, held, heard or owned, and I played quite a few also the current US MTD line Michael Tobias produces. Anything works, goes and sounds right no matter how you set the controls and that is someting you rarely encounter, that is what a true gem is I guess... This one has the sought after older type TCT with an original and very rare passive tone control usable in both active and passive mode like e.g. A Fodera. It's a really flexable preamp very natural and organic somehow, don't know why they make them like that anymore... It has some light wear it has been played and some hairline cracks in the clear coat but nothing that influences playing, frets have great life action is set really low... Bass has been fully cleaned up when I got it and is setup proffessionally. The bass will be features in a bass beautique book, that I believe will be published this year or early next year.. I can give you details on that if anyone interested to know.. The book is published by the former owner of Bunny Bass in NY some years back. Additional news: I had contact with Michael Tobias about this bass, as I got an email that made me very curious on the original owner of this bass... Turns out this bass was made for producer and bassist extraordinair (mostly upright) Tim Emmons, you can google him he's done some really impressive works in his career. This particular bass has a thicker neck mimicking an upright feel Michael told me, I don't get that really co's the neck is asymetrical but the neck has more meat to it then others have also the body is thicker, prolly the reason why the bass has this bigger fatter tone. Anyway I thought it was fun to share that so it has one of a kind custom specs in that respect, very cool and very cool it was ordered by Tim back in the day! Specs Alder body wings Flame maple neck with purpleheart stringers Pau ferro board Dual truss rod The neck has the asymetrical neckshape really comfortable even for a sixer 34" scale 16,5 to 17mm spacing the bridge was hand carved and the space between watch string is identical thats why there is change in the spacing from sting to string. You might think it's kinda tight I did too but it's actually really comfortable to play. Bass weighs in at 5kg Original brown tolex case Included are the std model knobs which are like new This is one of my dearest instruments I'm putting on the block, I wont sell it for cheap, but I can guarantee is worth every penny as it is holy grail territory stuff or something sounds like sales talk I know but I mean it.
Asking somewhat less than he did, I pulled the trigger knowing I had too many basses for someone not actively gigging. Here's a few photos. Some cropping weirdness that I can't fix as am busy, but shows the woods. Lovely woods imo. 6. Yeah, I'm keeping the fretless sister to this bass... Serious snafu here, with record number of resuscitations for the hospital involved. (I wasn't the patient) Medical emergency has passed! YAY! Still selling the bass.
7. Time to simplify. I bought this new last September, and the bass is consequently in mint condition. This bass has makore/rescued-from-lake-bottom-redwood body and a maple/ebony neck and the custom options that have the biggest sonic are the acoustic chambers that make this a 'Marilyn' and the Ghost piezo bridge. The tone is big and round with extended lows and highs form maple, ebony and redwood that also add focus. There's a lot of material to sculpt from and the electronics are stupidly powerful with 2 magnetic and a piezo that can be blended to any mix. EQ affects piezo signal as well as magnetic pickup signal. Very, very, responsive to touch. No lack of attack or cut through the mix with this bass. For those of us who play solos and chords from time to time: this bass has excellent balance throughout the register and is the first bass that I've had from dozens of high end basses where chord tones are in tune. The difference is dramatic when you play the first chord. Lots of pricey options and Marilyns take a long time to get once you've put in an order. Absolute mint condition. Edit: Now asking EUR3500 or equivalent, currently GBP2835, shipped to European destinations, MTD hard case in mint condition included, parcel size limits permitting. More pics https://www.dropbox....vpb8/5n4umI2Wsb edited to add, further edited to clarify a question by the moderation: For the inevitable trade offers: If it's a more baseline MTD 635 that you'd add cash on top for this, I'm probably game. Other than that, there needs to be a substantial amount of cash.
8. Have photos and audio, pm me if you've cash waiting.
9.
I was taught that the second number in the time signature is the feel, the most predominant type of note being used. an 8th note feel or a quarter note feel for example. The first note being how many of them there are in a bar. It's simple that way.
Aye... But how does this theory hold with tango, funk and son all being written predominantly in 4/4? Very different feels apart from 'play it on one and --- no, wait, you don't play it on one in a ton of latin music. All the ToP scores I saw were written in 4/4 or 3/4 - didn't see many of those, granted.
10.
Blue Rondo a 'la Turk isn't a simple rhythm. There's a description of the piece on wiki http://en.wikipedia....Rondo_à_la_Turk According to that page, it starts with a repeating four measure pattern that is 2+2+2+3 for three measures, then one measure of 3+3+3. Then the piece goes into a straightforward 4/4 rhythm. I'm finding it quite hard to count the beats on the first section, and it doesn't appear to be a simple straightforward 9/8 time signature. Later on we get 4/4 alternating with 2+2+2+3 and more stuff going on. I don't understand why you label this an easy example. The belly dance music sounds to be quite straightforward 9/4 to me, which would be counted "1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 and 7 and 8 and 9 and" as it's a simple time signature. That seems to fit. The sound quality isn't good, but the melodic phrases appear to indicate the starts of bars, and counting as mentioned seems to fit well. Hence, I'm not quite sure what your point is. Could you please clarify?
Absolutely! Blue Rondo was an example of music we'd write out in 9/8 but that has a different pulse. And the other one doesn't have a pulse that's made up of groups of three... So there's more to 9/2n time signatures than just the compound --> groups of three thing. Haven't played these two, tho. A song I have played, 'Birds of Fire' is in 18, but the bass part isn't really in groups of three for a lot of the piece... So I think that part of the explanation needs a bit more fleshing out and room for variety. To summarize: your post stated that 9/2n time signatures were counted (and thus presumably felt) in groups of three, which is not the case for one of the best known jazz tunes that's in 9 or for Birds of Fire, which is numerically just 2(9/2n) but isn't a simple 3 3 3 3 3 3 feel. I felt your explanation left out important pieces of music - in fact, I don't think I ever heard or read a piece that was 3 3 3 in school, while some teachers did use Blue Rondo as a teaching piece. Thus the reply. Hope the point was clearer this time around. ESL here, so please pardon the stilted and unEnglish sentence structures.
11.
Compound time signatures have beats divided into three. E.g. 6/8 = 1 and a 2 and a 9/8 = 1 and a 2 and a 3 and a
Wait, what? No. Just to point at two easy examples that are 9/8 and 9/4. Feeling 1-2-3 2-2-3 3-2-3 doesn't create the right feel to me.
12. Yeah, Spectors rock. Warwicks ... meh, I'd rather play something else.
13. oh crap, made a duplicate by mistake. Also, I found something I'd like, so 800 quid. Or 850 shipped. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/232957-warwick-corvette-ltd-ed-2005/
14. Err, this is a good bass. I'm low on cash. My dream is to have 4 or 5 or 6 MTDs and never long on any bass site again. This is f***ing it as far as useable in Real World boutique basses go. Reality is I can barely hang on to the 2 MTDs I bought NEW and as such can not sell, as the loss would be just way too much.
15. I need to sell some basses. Not enough gigs, too many basses. This is a very fast playing four-stringer that's got ash body, the rest is very vivid flame maple. The tones out of this one are somewhat more traditional than your typical warwick, since there's no bubinga or wenge anywhere. They made a run of 150 of these in '05 and afaik you can't get one of these. There's some minor scuffing that's visible in the linked photos. Here's a link to Warwick site that has professional photographs and specs: http://www.warwick.d...--Pictures.html And my photos of this particular bass: https://www.dropbox....zrbb/uYB_8UTjF8
16. Recorded an audio clip that's a bit sh*te, wasn't the best of days... But I guess you'll hear some of the tones the bass can pull off on it. Just ask via PM please
17. PMs replied... Yeah, keep getting tons of trade offers, but I'm really looking to cut down on the number of basses. Would be more towards take a cash+trade than an even trade. And cash is the best of all, as usual.
18. Something's come up, and I'm much more motivated to sell. I'll think of a new asking price in a day or two.
