1. Having a bit of a clear out in my study today & discovered a batch of bass books I bought a while ago & had totally forgotten about! First up was The Funkmasters JB Rhythm Sections book by Allan Slutsky & Chuck Silverman. Some great little insights into the various bands and their individual parts on a swathe of JB classics along with various complete scores, instrument by instrument tabs & a pair of CD's. Given that my 'new' '86 Fodera Monarch also arrived this weekend I thought I'd have a blast at playing along with some JB funk. Wound the treble all the way down on the Monarch & boosted some lows and added more tubetone 'grit' on the TC Electronics Rh450 & I was away Have been playing for hours, so long that my legs ache & my fingers are killing me Can't believe just how simple, but effective, some of those great bass lines were. Especially things from people less well known like Fred Thomas: "James Brown had had his fill of virtuosity. Unable to control the tempestuous Bootsy Collins, his new agenda was to find a bassist with a solid bottom end that he could work with. Fred Thomas and his mid-sixties Fender Precision were custom made for that role" I just love the groove on Hot Pants Pt 1 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDTWsMaIHLE...feature=related "Fred just played the root note of the chord and its octave. It doesn't get much simpler than this but that doesn't lessen the impact and importance of the line. Don't believe me; just try playing a busy technical figures against this track and watch the groove disintegrate under your fingers."
Audacity! It can also change the pitch for you, and lots of other things.
+1 for Audacity - great piece of free software. Been using it for a while & never encountered a problem with it
3. A 370 / 301 combination was up for sale on EBay a while ago and, I'm afraid to say, it didn't fetch a great deal - £56 for the pair! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Acoustic-Control-Cor...1#ht_500wt_1108 It does say they were a bit ratty but full functional. I have to admit that if I'd noticed them at the time I would definitely have paid more than £56 for them. . .
4. Just spotted that Thomann are listing the full RH450 combo at 'only' £1,050 brand new but the head on its own is £810 & the standard cab is £403. You might be able to get a good deal on the C cab if they wanted to split a combo up. Looks like it might be a mistake though as the 450 Classic combo is showing at £3 more the RH450 yet the Classic head is nearly £200 cheaper!
5. Listing says it's closed already - sounds like it sold quickly One thing that really irritates me about how Ebay sell their advertising is that they then allow Thomann to advertise the same item above the old sales closed thread. This happened to me once on something I'd sold and my buyer used it to try & re-negotiate the price. They discount so heavily it can really hurt Uk sales - grrrr !

11.
Only just found this thread. I soooo want a Hyperbass! GremlinAndy - If I buy lunch can I have a go? I' thinking of ordering myself!
I was talking to Phil Nixon at BassGear last week & he has six Zons due in fairly soon. I'd guess that there isn't a Hyperbass because they are real custom jobs but with six to choose from I'd bet there's some tasty stuff
12.
5th August... Still no sign of my hyperbass. Kinda dissapointed with the whole affair. I expected a higher level of service from a manufacturer of high end basses.
Have you tried this address: [email protected]
13. Wow, just realised Scorpio isn't here anywhere! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfLnqoL-lRs...feature=related I love some of the YouTube quotes on this: "he thing is, not only is this jam just raw and funky and dirty like it just got pulled straight up out of some funk garden of eden and served straight to your ears, unfiltered, but the thing is, that sh*t was getting played on top-40 radio! we're talking conga and bass solos and no "baby i love you"s! just a good f***ing jam served up fresh on the am dial. that's so hard to imagine in this modern corporate controlled day and age. LOVE IT!!" "This is a funk REVOLUTION right here!!! Just listen to the breakdown and think of how many people have sampled/ripped off the funky drummers/conga part... Then Babbitt comes in and lays down one of the best bass solo you will ever hear. As they say in the song "GRAB IT, BOBBY!""

15. The main dinosaur hall at the Natural History Museum for a Price Waterhouse coopers summer ball - playing right behind T-Rex & over-awed by the amazing architecture : Great gig - first, and only, night that we got a band 'rider' for food & drink. They even supplied our own private chef & a waitress!
16.
.for two check Crown Heights Affair..
Bit cheesy but I used to love this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUaF1mHwunM
17. Here's an old one I forgot about - MFSB http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INSW12-771o Just love this groove - sounds amazing at very loud volume in a club
18.
I totally agree with you. Utterly awesome feel. Ever since I watched the youtube link to the live worhip in chicago, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_KuD0AjWdE I've been hooked. From what I can gather he's a very modest guy who's driven by his religious beliefs, otherwise I think we'd've heard much more of him. He's my main inspiration to learn and improve as a player. God Bless him!!
This is one of my faves - I often watch when I feel like being livened up a bit!
19. LEDs all sorted - no problems at all Currently residing at Mr Shuker's workshop for a bit of truss-rod tweaking - action will be a killer when it comes out
20. Seriously nice P bass here everyone - anybody fancy a trade for something interesting?
21. Been playing the Zon tonight, such a nice little bass - maybe I'll just keep it for a while, lol. In the meantime I had accepted an offer at £1,200 so I'll throw that out there to everyone to see if it makes a difference
22. My Performance P bass came with a Bartolini & I like it a lot. I've often thought Bart's could sound a bit subdued but have really changed my opinion over last couple of years.
23. The Performance P bass I have is the nicest I've played - it's active & sounds just how a 'modern' P bass should to my ears
24.
I posted a 50w practice combo the other day and was amazed at just how bad the postage was - £25 on Parcel Force 48. I kind of knew when I saw this, it was just his way of saying "Buyer collects". He is new to the site and doesn't realise you can just select that option. I'd love to know how to get the prices down. I always seem to spend a fortune on postage costs & would love to get it down.
Interparcel is a good place to start - they are effectively a broker for a number of different delivery services so you get to see who's cheapest across DHL / Fedex / Citylink /TNT etc. Watch out for the fact that the opening prices they quot are ex VAT & insurance over £50 costs extra. this latter part can double costs if you've got something worth over £500 or so. It's worth trying to measure weight & dimensions accurately as well - this can make quite a difference with some services. Interparcel are super helpful if a parcel goes missing or there's any dispute with the shipper.
25. I'm loving those white pickups - well worth the wait! Matching headstock is very nice as well Looking forward to hearing how it sounds
