2. Just watched the OP link again. Man, I love Addicted to that Rush. What a track!
3. Very true - performance requires a certain degree of confidence and with that comes a certain degree of ego. Unavoidable...
4.
Seen Steve Vai with sheehan 3 times, 1 of those times being G3 with Joe Satrinai, and Robert Fripp. Other 2 (Vai, Sheehan, Colson, Weiner and mcalpine) they were supported by Eric Sardinas, now theres one POWERFUL 3 piece band! amazing! But yeah, Vai and Sheehan together are just unbelievable! well they are the Power Twins after all! Duels are just very entertaining to watch, of course its showing off! but why not if you can? haha Z x
I saw them on that G3 tour - at the Albert Hall. Was good, but not as good as Vai's solo show, simply because Satriani and Fripp weren't anywhere near as entertaining as Team Vai. And they did the G3 jam with Satriani's band, rather than Vai's. The first time I saw Vai, Eric Sardinas supported - he was a beast! Did his playing in the crowd thing from what I recall. Just a fantastic gig all round. I also saw Sheehan a couple of times with just Virgil Donati and Tony McAlpine. Awesome stuff, but obviously, Mr Big would be THE show to see...
5. No idea, I'm afraid, as my drummer only recently turned me on to them. What an original band! Love the bass grooves on there. Didn't they write their own language for the lyrics?
6.
+1 got to agree with you Zoe. Last time I saw Billy he was playing with Vai. They did the "lets play each others guitars" trick that they do, crap description, but you know what I'm on about. Truly amazing to watch.
+1 I really can't listen to Vai's music on record, but the first time I saw him live (well, it was primarily to see Sheehan live) was one of the most entertaining shows I've ever seen. For me, you can be as self-indulgent and technical as you want, but if you perform with energy, flair and passion, it's going to be entertaining for me. Might have been the same tour as when you saw them? It was Vai, Sheehan, McAlpine and Donati - amazing band. I'm sure a lot of people in the audience were tech-heads, counting notes, but for me, it was just a great performance by a bunch of guys having a lot of fun.
7.
yeah, but Billy said that they will head over here eventually Z x
Really!? That would be too awesome. Fingers-crossed... Though seeing them play in Japan would surely be the ultimate Mr Big experience. Just wish the pound wasn't so weak against the Yen right now... And back on topic - Sheehan is THE MAN. If he doesn't play with passion and feel, then I don't know who does...
8.
yeah he really is a great guy. Can't believe Mr. Big are back together, its just amazing so excited! Z x
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like they'll be coming this way anytime soon... That said, I hear Fin-Air have been doing some very good deals on flights to Tokyo...
9.
A semi? You have a great deal of control! I don't think it is custom shop but maybe limited edition. Heres what i know: I bought it from America where it was made in 2006, it is 'used' but i think it must have only been a dissatisfyed customer who sent it back because there is no wear at all and the strings were completely new (First time i've experienced Elixir strings... they're like condoms over my strings...). The top is Mahogany and the other half of the wings are made from bubinga, it's top is quilted but the bottom isn't. Anyone whose played with these Barts will know hoe beautiful they are, they are briliant, but sadly render the GP11 in my Trace head almost useless (for now). Thanks for the envy guys Jamie
Those barts are indeed lovely. My SR20th has them and I love their tight sound. Though I still have plenty of use for my Trace 12-band I'm sure I saw this on Talkbass, so it may have been a limited edition as you say. In any case, it's one of the nicest looking Ibanez I've seen. The only thing it's missing is a Wenge fretboard - my favourite fretboard wood. Speaking of which, check out the link in one of my previous postings on this thread to see this year's addition to the SR range - probably the finest Ibanez I've seen and an absolute dream for all fans of the Wenge.
10. That's a seriously nice SR1006 - looks custom shop. Where did you get it from? I'm sure I've seen something similar on Talkbass. Is that a quilted top? Or the whole body? I thought SR prestiges almost always had mahogany bodies. Either way, I've got a semi...
11. I think most of the options have been covered already, but here's my advice. Call the airline before hand and see if you can arrange to take the bass with you in a gig bag. It should fit in most overhead lockers (I believe the maximum length is about 1.4m or thereabouts - but you have to check), but they should be able to confirm this. As someone already suggested, gate check may be another option, though not guaranteed. Many people advise slackening of your strings - this is not to do with temperature but pressure, since it gets very cold in the luggage hold. This can play havoc with your strings and truss rod, so best to take this simple precaution. Similarly, I've heard advice that you shouldn't open your case until an hour or two after you get there, to let the bass adjust gradually to the ambient temperature. I'm not sure if that's a definite issue, but that makes some sense, so worth following. Lastly you need a very strong case. Baggage-handling staff have no interest in handling your luggage carefully - they just want to sling it on/off the plane as quickly as possible. Even if you have 'Fragile' stickers on your case. A hard-plastic case (such as a Hiscox) may not be enough, since I've heard of them getting smashed up during transit and in fact, my guitarist got the corner cracked off his Alligator case when we went to Spain (fortunately, his guitar was okay). There was a great thread on here listing all the possibilities, but if you already have a decent case, then no need to worry. It's really not worth taking any unnecessary risks with your pride and joy.
12. I get this from time to time on both my Ibanez basses (both of which have the stacked eq controls). The previous suggestion of applying switch cleaner through the cut-out usually seems to sort it out for me. When I clean the pots, I put a bit of cleaner on the outside, at the base of the plastic pot cover and again inside the electronics compartment, down into the pot. Again, that usually sorts it out.
13.
I love tv themes... check out the bassline on duck tales or rescue rangers... oh and tale spin.
We tried to jam through Ducktales at a rehearsal a while back. Old kids TV themes are awesome. Could I also add the ending theme to the Raccoons?

15. Just saw these beauties on the Ibanez website... New SR Prestige Oh my word...

Ibanez

+1 to Faithless's post - there's loads of opinion on Ibanez basses in that thread. I use Ibanez and have found there playability to be unparalleled for the price. The sound varies, depending on the model - if you want a mellow tone, go with an SR. An SRX will give you a gruffer, growly tone etc...
17. There's your response right there. I'm sure if you give Alex a call right now and explain the situation fully, then it'll be sorted out for you in time for your session. I agree with the posts people made about good customer service coming from the ability to react to bad situations. The fact that Alex has bothered to respond on here and is even dialed in to this community full-stop is an indication of the degree to which the Gallery goes to achieve good customer service.
18.
Al that I can say to that is........"fallen brother as I hold closed your side, I fear this wound your last; mighty Earth now doth drink your blood, and I remember days long past.... your sacrifice so great, rest now take they sleep; for you shall not awake, let revenge be sweet...for when we march , your sword rides with me...." etc etc. I love Manowar!!! "Born of Black Wind....Fire.... and STEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!"
I'm getting teary-eyed just thinking about March for Revenge... They're possibly my favourite band (with the exception of Dream Theater ). I got into them just too late to catch them live over here (last time they played was '94, I believe), so I had to travel to Germany to see them in 2005. That happened to be the first Manowar fan convention and involved them playing Battle Hymn with all 8 members, past and present, on stage at the same time. Just incredible... "Strong winds, magic mist, to Asgard the Valkyries fly.... High over head, they carry the dead, where the blood of my enemy lies..." I'm seriously considering heading over to Europe this summer to see them again...
19. Noisy Muthers! That brings back some memories...
20.
Death to false metal.
If you're not into metal, then you are not my friend. Right now I've got every Manowar track on shuffle on my Ipod. I can think of few better ways to pass the day.
21. Can't really pick a favourite, but these are some of the greats, as far as I'm concerned: - Steve Lukather Neil Schon John Petrucci Alex Lifeson George Lynch Dave Mustaine CC Deville John Sykes Andy La Roque Paul Gilbert
22. My band supported them last night and will be doing so again tonight at the Ballroom. Don't think we were really the right choice of support, but still, it was fun. Kings X sounded pretty impressive, from what I saw of them - will hopefully get more of a chance to see them tonight. I agree with the comments on Doug Pinnick's bass sound - it was massive! Not really my kind of sound, but perfect for their music.
23. Wow, I was once taught general music theory by Andy McKinney, at the Guitar Institute. Glad to see he's getting some success.
24. Dave Murray's signature Strat is also 'Maiden' ( ) Japan - maybe they prefer Japanese-made Fenders. I've heard that a lot of people do...
25.
It's a bit of a shame about Trujillo. I used to love his stuff in suicidal tendencies and infectious grooves (he's one of the most under-rated slap and poppers out there), and loved pretty much all of his lines. He's an amazing bass player. Then he joined Metallica. What he does is perfect for them. It's straight rock/metal, and there is no room for anything "fancy". He does his job, and he does it well. But sometimes, I feel he's a little wasted. One of my fav lines of his: Violent and funky
This is pretty much how I feel. The eponymous Infectious Grooves album is one of the most imaginative and effective rock album that's come out in the last 20 years and one of the key factors in it's success was Trujillo's bass playing. Metallica is technically and creatively below his abilities, but, as I've said in another thread, he's getting paid a shedload to tour the world and play in front of massive audiences - he's probably got the best bass-playing gig in heavy music. More power to him.
