  3. Just bought a Dingwall ABZ from Waltsdog. Bass is in excellent condition and the transaction was smooth, easy and convenient. I would highly recommend dealing with Kieran - he's a thoroughly nice bloke and clearly a trustworthy seller - though you might not get a chance to buy anything off him as it looks as though he's pretty much sold everything
  4. [size=5][b]NOW SOLD[/b][/size] Here for sale is my Samson Airline UHF wireless system. It is the AG1 transmitter version (channel 3), with a right-angled jack that was designed to fit basses with the input on the side of the body, though should fit any bass that doesn't have a recessed jack socket. The tone quality is great for a wireless system in this price range and there is no noticeable distortion or loss of clarity. It also has terrific range - you can literally be in another part of the house and it still transmits with to the same level. The transmitter and receiver are in great condition, despite having had a fair bit of use. The box is fairly tatty, but still has the instruction manual and all original packaging. It runs off a 9V battery in the receiver and a single AAA battery in the transmitter. I'm looking for [s]£110[/s] [s]£90[/s] [b]£75[/b] including postage to mainland UK.   5. Up for sale is my Tech 21 Sansamp Bass Driver DI pedal. I used it for gigging as a way to control my tone when I was forced to either DI or use someone else's back-line. It also seemed to be a hit with most sound men I encountered! Since getting hold of a Pod, I've not got any use for this, so I figured I'd try and send it off to a new home. The pedal is in excellent condition and comes with the original tin it came in, instructions, warranty card and even the Tech 21 sticker NOW SOLD

I actually got the signing thing free, being a fan club member - it just so happened that uptake on the VIP thing was low in Manchester, so they made time for fan club members as well. So hopefully, you'll get a bit more time than I did, being a paying punter and all Ask John Myung about his basses - despite his reputation for being incredibly quiet, he wouldn't stop talking when I asked him how the Ernie Ball was working out.
  7. I got to do a meet and greet last tour in Manchester. Very friendly and down-to-earth guys, but you feel you're kind of getting herded through a bit. They did pose for photos with everyone, though, which was pretty cool. Regardless, it will be a memorable experience if you're a big fan!
  8. From what I've observed, Japanese, non-prestige Ibanez SRs seem to change hands for anything between £150 and £600, depending on condition. Some would argue they are worth more (particularly considering that certain models seem to be quite rare), but it's a fairly niche market - they're worth a lot to those who like them, but as the market it small, there's not a huge demand. For that particular one, I would possibly pay £250-300, were I in the market for one, but others would maybe see it go for more or less. This is all opinion of course - I'm not speaking from any position of authority.

It lists one of the colour options as sunburst, so I'd be fairly certain it's a '92/'93 SR500.
  10. Regardless of any experiences, good or bad, that people have had at the Gallery, I think it's pretty classy of Alex to come on here and give his opinion. It should hopefully show that they do care about business and understand the importance of word-of-mouth in promotion of sales of a niche market. Mistakes happen and to me, good customer service is not necessarily about getting it right first time, but taking accountability when things go wrong.

If it was Alex, while I would never describe him as the cheeriest of individuals, he's certainly never been anything less than extremely helpful and communicative. Maybe you caught him on a bad day - no excuse whatsoever as a retailer, but just seems very out of character.

  13. I love Japanese-made instruments. Don't know why, but every Japanese-made bass I've ever tried has been amazing. Of all the instruments I've ever played, the ones that have stood out as 'the best' in my eyes have all been Japanese-made. So generally I view MIJ/CIJ (or whatever) as a mark of quality. No doubt there are plenty of duff Japanese basses out there, but that's just based on my personal experience.

  15. I have tinnitus in both ears and some hearing loss in the high mids in my right ear. I've used these for a number of years and I think I've just about managed to hold back any further significant damage. [url="http://elacin.com/en/product/85/Elacin-Music-ER25"]Elacin ER25[/url] They're very expensive for a pair of earplugs, but I felt that where my hearing was concerned it was worth it. I've heard that the ER20 plugs are also very good - obviously not on the same level as the ER25s, but much better value for money.

  21. I just sold my Ibanez 6-string to Mark. The transaction went very smoothly, communication was great throughout and there was no messing about whatsoever. I can definitely recommend dealing with him!
  22. Another great option would be the K5 Korn signature bass. If you can deal with having a pointy-looking 'K5' inlay around the 12th fret and Fieldy's signature on the headstock, these are a great option and there seem to be plenty floating around second hand, both on here and on ebay. You could probably pick one up for around £300-350. The K5 has two different versions - the original, which was released in the early 2000's and the newer, current production model. Having played both, I personally think the original is superior. The main difference is the body - the original being mahogany with a paduak top and natural finish, while the newer one is just mahogany and has a black-stained finish. The older model is really just a re-issue of the SR1305 from the mid-90s, but manufactured in Korea rather than Japan. It was the bass that turned me onto the SR basses and I have been in love with them ever since.

Kes.[/quote] In short, there's a huge difference between the various instruments - they're variations on a theme, but very big variations. As well as the body wood, the neck/fretboard wood, the bridge, pickups and eq all vary depending on the type and specific model. Generally the cheaper basses (SR3xx) are made with cheaper materials and have fewer 'features'. The mid-range instruments (e.g. the SR5xx, SR6xx) instruments have more features and better pickups - the Bartolini branded MK pickups - and the 3-band eq. However, due to the rising prices of certain woods, they've, for example, recently replaced the wenge in the necks with jatoba. Some of the other models have different features - e.g. the SR7xx range have tone blocks in the body. There are also variants with different neck woods - I believe there are SR5xxM models that have a maple neck, rather than jatoba. Ibanez have recently introduced a 'Premium' range, in which they use high-end components (wenge neck, nordstrand pickups etc) and also have the mid-range selection that the SR5xx now has. Moving up to the top, the SR Prestige range of basses are Japanese-made (which of course adds a lot to the price), and have more 'nice-to-have' features, such as the power curve mid-range control, which is more of a true parametric mid range control and US-made Bartolini custom pickups. The one thing with Ibanez that I've found (and also appears to be the case with Yamaha) is that the higher-end instruments really do not retain their value relative to cost, which is surprising as they are incredibly well made instruments for the price and even at the higher-end, you're still getting almost boutique-level quality at less than boutique-level price. I don't understand why they don't retain value. As such, with £500, you could maybe stretch to one of the older Japanese-made instruments that pop up for sale on here occasionally. You could also get hold of an SR505, SR705 for probably around the £300 mark or maybe even a through-neck SR905 or SR1005 - the latter has the old vari-mid III parametric mid control, that preceded the power curve in the prestige models.
