1. Great cover, I loved it! Really good arrangement which retained the characteristics of the song well whilst adding some cool embelishments.
2. Darn it!!! I need to hear some early Genesis now and I'm stuck at work!!!
3. I'm back. Yamaha about £50, Cordoba about £200. I think that settles which one I'd be going for ...
4. That looks like an awesome travel instrument - I want one! I had a brief try on a ukulele and was lost on it, that looks more useable with current skills. How much are they? Actually, that's so lazy, I'll go google them ....
5. I already have a Fender CS, it's a Reggie Hamilton 5 string. Probably on the chopping block now though as I am firmly in the 4 string camp. I guess I'd like the same as a 4 string but relic'd and NOT sunburst!
6.
I don't like dragging names through the dirt, but one player who is highly revered that I got to see play at very close range was Billy Sheehan at a clinic that he played with Paul Gilbert in Cardiff many moons ago. I thought his finger technique was appalling, his bass tone was even worse and his timing just plain sucked. I still really don't understand how this guy is such a big influence to some players. Everything he does seems wrong to me. That said, Billy is a really nice guy to chat to! Very down to earth and very funny.
Personally I think that his live performances are fantastic fun. Great energy and enthusiasm. My favourite gig was a Steve Vai one with Billy on Bass. I don't recall thinking that his timing was out or his technique was bad, but the whole atmosphere was cookin' and immensly enjoyable. Maybe Michal Anthony is a candidate? I remember a few years ago the separated masters for some bands/songs were 'out there' (was it related to guitar hero?) and a lot of people seemed to be commenting on how sloppy the bass parts were on VH recordings when everything around them was removed.
7. Who's that black player that plays slap with the bass mega high up and his right arm seems to come up from under the bass? That's a pretty mad technique to be starting off with, although he was pretty darned good at it! Anyone recall his name?
8. Main amp for the past year has been an H&K Tubemeister, but I'm gonna flog it now. Doesn't get switched on at home since I bought an Axe-fx. I'll probably get a cab and poweramp for it at some point. Main guitar is a Fender strat with Warmoth neck and Kinman pickups.
9. Hmmn, drums in the Garage, full length weighted keyboard in the loft, 3 guitars at work, 3 guitars + an amp on loan in different locations. The picture thing ain't gonna happen.
10. What a fabulous looking bass! If I hadn't blown all my wonga recently I could have been seriously interested.
11. Cool bass indeed!
12. The thing that REALLY annoys me with that guy is that he sticks a custom shop logo on the back of the headstocks. That really is conning people. Fender should sue his ass off.
13. Gorgeous bass! I've just bought a Status though so I'm out.
14. Waaaaay to much wear for my liking.
15. I would think impossible with a skinny jazz fretboard! No room for 5 strings. An act of madness!
16. Wow! some major lists! Mine is fairly short: CWG winner (SOLD) Yamaha RBX (SOLD) Hohner jack 5 (long term loan out) Status 5 string (SOLD) Harley Benton Fretless 5 Fender Jazz V Reggie Hamilton Custom shop Status S2
17. Well it would have been nice to see it. I guess that some people can't handle that darned fangled t'interweb thing.
18. I can't seem to swap. Started on 4's but went 5 many years ago. I totally couldn't relate to 4's any more. Now, after many years I have gone back to a 4 and it feels so good can't believe it. Absolutely feels like home and has re-energised my playing beyond belief. After 2 weeks I just couldn't seem to remember how to play a 5 any more! I think I'm gonna sell my fabulous 5 string.
19. That looks awesome!
20. Sounds awesome! I'd have gone for the LEDs though. I'm not sure I'd use them in public but I absolutely love practicing in a darkened room with them on! (ooer!)
21. Can't afford it but lookin forward to the pix!

Guitar Rig 4

I've had GR2, 3 & 4. I first got it when all the mags raved about it's brilliance, but to be honest I've found it disappointing. I like to use gain type sounds with a guitar, and they all seem to have horrible amounts of hiss. The noise gates etc just seem to kill the tone dead with that horrible clipping. Didn't like any of the bass sounds and I've never felt bothered to tweak them either. If they could cure the hiss I would love it. It's OK for other types of sounds.
23. I don't gig, but as I play several instruments I pretty much pick up something every day to play. I think I'd still noodle around on bass even if I was gigging as to me music is the 'my thing' that is relaxation after a day in the office and a 32 mile drive home in rush hour. Re: Gary Moore. I'd imagine that he was just throwing out an off-the-cuff soundbyte rather than Chapter 1 of the Gospel according to Gary, so I don't think it needs to be treated so seriously!
