It didn't feel right, and from what you're saying it isn't right so I'll either stick with the Peavey head or if I can be bothered next time I'll take my full rig along. I've got a proper speaker cable, but the Peavey units don't have a speakon connection. I think if I used the amp with the 212 as it's set up now then the house would fall down! Cheers

We were in a practice room for the first time last night *bounce, bounce* and there is a Peavey stack in it. A Mark VI XP head and two cabs, a single 15 and what looked like it may have been a 2x10. I took my GK MB500 Fusion head with me, just so that I could use it more than anything else, and used that with the Peavey cabs. The cabs are instrument cable connected and when I was only using the 15 I had to wind the head up, almost to the three quarter mark to get a sensible level. I then plugged the other cab in and brought it back down to below halfway. I've got two queries regarding this, was it louder because I was using both cabs so the head was producing it's stated 500w or was it louder because it was moving more air with three speakers instead of one? Or both! I've got a GK 212 at home, but I didn't bring it, but I'm now worried that it wouldn't be able to cope on it's own and I should look at getting another cab. Is running the head with the dial almost all the way 'round going to be normal when we use our own kit to gig or is it going to be a mismatch between my head and the Peavey cabs? I'll leave it at home next time and use the one in the room I think to save the magic smoke. TBH, I'm a bit surprised that I had to take it up so far which is why I'm worried. It's not a huge room though and maybe our drummer is a bit of a thug and we didn't realise...

I'd like some pointers on how to get a sensible synth effect from an MS60B please. I can't seem to get any nice noise out of it, I can get the "Peow" sound on the first note but then it either doesn't happen again or sort of does a long drawn out one over several notes. I've tried all the synth patches and they all have a little bit of what I want but not all in one. Maybe I need to read up on what the effects are copies of and see how the real thing worked.

The Baton came to the Midlands Bass Bash with me, it left with Grammefriday and made £75

It is indeed, and will be putting itself about on Saturday for the price of a picture and a donation to charidee. I even got my folks to put something in the pot when I picked it up this evening.

It's perfectly acceptable to just turn up without a bass. I wasn't as I don't think I've got anything that everyone hasn't seen, unless a 5 string P is considered exotic, and I was going to come by bike anyway if the weather was nice I am now bringing the BC relay baton, hopefully I won't be taking it home with me

Just! It's more of a kitchen diner so we put the drums into half of the dining room, the amps on the dining room chairs. I stood by the kitchen door and the guitarist had to go into the kitchen because of feedback problems. The poor singer who has been coping without PA support up to now as it was just us and the ipod for reference had to stand by the drummer and shout himself hoarse. We're looking for a rehearsal space now

As an antidote to the "Quit my band threads" There's been three of us for a while now, my school mate on the six string thing, my college mate on the singing and last night we had our first go with a real drummer, a bloke I work with. It was a bit cramped in the guitarists kitchen and he couldn't get far enough away from his amp to stop the feedback at times but it was a fun evening and only my third time with real drums. Good call that man. I borrowed the mixer to play with at home. A lot of the noise was coming from the power supply. but I can't get anything if I plug my GK MB500 Fusion into it using a normal instrument lead from Line Out into the Mixer 1/4" input on channel 1 unless I wind the gain on the channel up so far it's just recording noise. Am I doing it wrong by using a normal lead instead of an XLR cable, but if I do, what happens when we start using the phantom power on the desk to run microphones? Early days yet, should I be looking for something to convert the RCA to USB rather than the microphone port on the laptop and recording on something other than Audacity?
