1. Welcome Rammstein. Have to agree, BrittleDick was a very underrated bass player and I'm also a big Tull fan. Basschat is a great place to be and you'll have fun. Cheers
2.
hoping the decals turn up soon so I can get it finished.
The decal bit is always scary to me, £10 a shot and the slightest crease and ya buggered. I probably go over the top with lacquer coats on the decal, but always seem to get a good finish.
3. [sup][sup]Very nice indeed, What pups did you use?[/sup][/sup]
4. Fantastic job on those tuners, oh to have the right woodworking equipment.
5. Really Nice, well done! Does the candy orange almost boarder on looking copper coloured?
6. Hi Mystic and welcome to England and Bass Chat. You'll have to get you other half back into playing music again, it can be very therapeutic. My 9 year old son started to learn guitar at school and it's re-kindled my need play again (after not touching a bass for 31 years) and it's make a difference to my life. I'm not in a band (well I practicing with some work friends to do a 1 off gig at our works party) but love playing after work to cds and my son is showing all the hallmarks of being a bassist rather than a 6 string guitarist as he naturally plays the melodies in songs and is quite good at it, I'll let him find his way to the light . Anyhow have fun! By the way liked you site. Cheers

8. Many Thanks for the info Mr Fingers this will be very useful! Much appreciated
9. I'm really getting to like the look of these early 50s P-Basses, I use to hate the look but over the years I've mellowed and really taken to them. I'm concidering building one from bits (it will probably take me over a year due to the cost) but need to know where I can obtain the "Spec" of them, mainly for the original colours they were available in and what decals were used. Short of buying a Fender book, are there any resourses on the net where i can get this info? Thanks
10. Took it out to a band practice session and all was good apart from the pickup mounting screws kept popping out and I think it's down to the wrong springs were sent with the pickups and I've only ever seen these types used with 6 string humbucker pickups. The springs are tapered and this maybe why the Pups tilt to one side all the time (I've also put the springs on both ways and it still happens). I Have now ordered new screws and springs from Papa Ds, so hopefully this will cure that problem. I'm waiting for some Chinese chop sticks to arrive so I can use them to pug the neck holes prior to the re-drill, It's just a brainwave i had to negate drilling the holes larger to plug, I'll probably be proved wrong but hey at least I'll know not to listen to my brain next time Cheers
11. This is looking really nice, I like the colour more than I thought I would. Where did you get the neck from? Well done!

Greetings!

Welcome Terry have fun!
13. Well more or less completed, overall not a bad job but the next one I do will be better because of the lessons i've learnt. Bbest bit of advice for those wanting to try a built for the first time is - TAKE YOU TIME. I'm going to plug and redrill the neck as I messed that up originally and although it plays and sounds fantastic, I'll always know it's slightly misalighned. I've bought some steel inserts to try as I only need to move the neck by a couple mm, but can't move the neck or shim to get it 100% straight at the mo. I'm just need to finish off setting the action up etc, but the pickups are at an angle for some reason but I think its probably down to the rubber I put underneath them being too narrow possibly. Insulation added Completed(ish) It's been fun (and rather messy at times) and thanks to Al Heeley who helped with some tips and advice.

Howdy

Hi Rushers Welcome and have fun. Oh how I wish I was young again and be able to do things correctly (Music Wise) by learning the theory and then going to Uni to progress more. Good luck with Uni and the band! Cheers
15. Hi Heath and Welcome Liked the site and must say you guitars look really nice, well impressed. Pink Ivory, looks like it would be stunning on a fretboard, does it also have the toughness of Ebony? I assume it does by the description.
16. Could always look on Flea Bay for a used one, I've seen some in a real used state recently and would be safer than playing with acid and probably be cheaper? Can never get my head around buying something new only to trash it, but that's me just being an old git
17. Hi 30507090 Welcome and have fun and I bet you still miss your Kay Junior I'd love to have the old Bontempi Bass (Woolies special) just to see how bad it really was!! But hey, it was a good learn experience.
18. Hi Paul Welcome from yet another southerner. I know what you mean about kids and gigs I'm slowly training mine to be musicians. have fun
19. [sup]In the main picture of the Bass it doesn't have the decal? Different neck? or just an old photo before the decal was added?[/sup]
20. Very nice indeed,do like that finish now it's completed, yes also agree excellent sanding job! Well done!
21.
Hi Mate ......keep the receipts away from the Mrs
PMSL oh how true that is.
22.
Wow, that looks really nice, how difficult was it to get the finish done to that level, still deciding whether to refinish mine when I upgrade it or not.
it's a bit of a messy process, you can either use paint stripper like I did, or use Heat Gun or a sander each process has it's own pros and cons. I would have got a "smoother" finish If I had applied a "wood sealer" coat as I had gone through it in parts of the body and thought (wrongly as it turned out) the primer would cover it up. I used 2 cans of Halfords White Primer and 2 cans of a Fiat yellow car spray and Probably at least a can of Nitro for the finish, the cost of the respray including the Nitro was around £32. I've seen some people (on the internet) only take the top coat off the body then just prime over that, but not sure with those extra coats how it will affect the sound. if you can put up with the mess I'd say give it a go, It's quite good fun but does have its scary moments. Is your bass in need of a new re-spray?
23. Very Nice, i've had 2 Rickies in the past and although I love the sound and looks, I always got on better (neck wise) with my old Fender JB, don't think my fat hands suited the Ricks. I bet you got up really early this AM and started playing it , great feeling to have something you've only dreampt of. Have Fun
