1. This is an extremly nice instrument - the feel of the wenge neck is particularly sweet, and those pups are nice and loud! (just sold mine today - someone will really enjoy this if they get it)
2. Sold locally from another forum.
3. Hi All, Looking for any recommendations for a teacher in Ireland, pref Carlow but within reach from there to Wicklow/Kildare or max West Dublin also possible. I have a handle on a chap in Wicklow but he seems to operate only in school term (Sep-Dec) and while I'm very much looking forward to that I was really hoping to get a few lessons over the next month or few! /A.
4.
He phoned me and said he'd send the money WU first.
Then its fine! .... I've sent money via WU before (to family members!), it works fine - when it does not work fine is when you are *sending* to an unknown, because you have no real come-back. However, in this case the purchaser is sending you the greenbacks so you *will* receive cash in hand so they are trusting you ! The only thing to watch for with WU in my prior experience is any collection charges for the money - if there are any (I suspect there may be), then factor this into the sale price! Best of luck.
5. Any update on your saga? .... I'm about to pull the trigger on a Shuker and this does not exactly inspire confidance .... I was also talking to Alan in ACG and at least he has been upfront and told people he is swamped and holding back on taking new orders until existing ones are taken care of .... Hope to read good news from you soon!
6.
That looks bloody nice ! T
and it feels, and plays, even better than it looks .... and I can honestly say, i simply wasn't prepared for the variety of sounds from the pups!! (see that double-switch position in image #1? ... thats the one to stand back from )
7. ******************* ** Now sold locally *** ******************* Up for sale is one meaty Warwick $$ NT. I got this from Muzz over Xmas and am moving it on because I am going back to 5 string and am about to pull the trigger on something customish so funds are needed to support the gas!! ... Also now interested in trade perhaps for same thing in a five string (with a reasonable amount of cash to balance the difference), or a Sandberg Bullet Special 5 (keep going back to that in the local shop - gas is a bloody awful thing!) Here is what Muzz said about it (and its all true I tells ya!): =================== It's a maple neck with ekanga (?) veneer stripes and bubinga body wings, and a wenge board. 34" scale, 24 frets. Pickups are passive humbuckers with individual 3-way switching (serial/paraller/single coil) and switched active 2 band EQ. I'm not sure about the weight - my scales are garbage - but I've seen it listed as either 3.8 or 4.6kg. I'd say the lower figure's the more accurate one. I've never gigged it, so it's in immaculate nick - I can't find a mark on it, and it plays and sounds the way it should: absolutely bloody enormous. =================== Same as Muzz, I've kept the chap (its to loud to be a lady!!) ungigged, and its getting far far less practise time than it deserves. Happy to move it on for the same as Muzz was looking = £850 + shipping. Hope Muzz dont mind I'm using his pictures directly! Oh and its just been fitted with new DR hi-beams!
8. @JackieMoon - if sale falls through PM me, I'd like to buy!
9. Thanks for the comparison shots Mr Bottom, much appreciated!
10.
Then my secret remains safe! Mwahahahahaaaa!
No Mr Bottom is doesn't, actually everytime I see your posts popup I wonder if you are bottom of the top or top of the bottom (big, versus little!), well, its something to byte on Anywhooo ... I was wondering if you might be so kind one of these fine days as to put together an MP3 (or fifty!!) of that delicious singlecut and post them for our general collective self-torture?? ... I'd also really like to see it against another chunk of bass to see the relative size of it ! (can be deceiving these thangs!) thanking thee most kindly /A.
11. Looksee what you've done to me ... I've just mailed Alan *and* got a response...... <sigh> ... will young oliver ever get the leg operation he needs so badly ??? ..... mmm, let me think really deeply.... nah, shag it, I'm going for one of these as soon as Alan's taking orders again 'Tis is a thing of extreme beauty - I think its the lack of visible pup that makes it.... Jealous ... extremly jealous (and delighted for ya!) /A.
I was like that too until Eude's ACG converted me. I've never named a musical instrument before, but somehow my ACG is crying out to me to be named... Myrtle, maybe?
12. Up until this very moment, single cuts simply didnt do it for me, but damn... that ACG is very very strangely beautiful! one of these days when I've more money than sense me thinks..... (and, after I give the good Mr Shuker a deposit on something sweet...!!!)
13. Hi V, cant help you but I think you'd get better assistance if you posted in a more appropriate section?! ..... I think "Repairs and Technical Issues" might be the home for this question! /A.
Hi Everyone, I'd like to know what is the average (mean ?) output power ( in milli-watts) of a standard bass pick-up; also the output voltage ( milli-volts ?). Any ideas, contributions, much appreciated. V.
14. I'll second the vote for GLS from Ireland into UK / Europe. Good service and uber cheap compared the the usual suspects / ripoff merchants! Regarding packing, a good strong cardboard box will do it, slacken off strongs, wrap like hell with bubbley-poppy stuff, put some polystyrene blocks in there to take pressure, and if at all possible, put a thin sheet of fibreboard front and back the entire length - dont add much weight but gives solid protection ! hth, and good luck with the sale, lovely piece! Allen.
15. Thank you sir!! The body is well 'hawed' (used it for glasses for years when I used to wear them, top job!!) going to look at the shelac link now, appreciate the link!! Allen
If you want to build up that headstock chip, try some stick shellac. You heat it until it goes like putty and then shape it into place. Here's a link which shows the process. When cleaning, don't underestimate the properties of saliva. I know it sounds a bit yucky, but it cleans stuff which chemicals don't. You can try de-ionised water if the spit grosses you out. Moist breath (like you'd clean a pair of glasses) also works well.
16. @ Dell - thank thee kindly sir! .... went at the rest of the hardware just now (not the cleverest thing to do after a glass!) and thouht it smarter to seperate the parts from the different sections into seperate glasses of vinegar! @ Geoff - ya, I've noticed - delicate is not the word! ... one of them already has a sizable chunk of the foil gone ... I'm actually wondering if its worth carefully scraping it all off and brushing on fresh goldfoil?! Any advice on the chunk of laquer gone on the headstock? ...
17. Hi All, I acquired what according to the serial seems to be a 1990s De Armond Guild Starfire: For what on the face of it is a ten year old hollowbody bass, its in surprisingly good nick, a few minor scratches, but mainly bloody dirty, generally uncared for and could do with a nice setup (oh and an ever so thumpy set of flats!). Not having done this before I'd appreciate if you hexperts could guide me on the cleanup job! (1) The fretboard is minging .... I removed the strings (with gloves...) and they have been ditched. The board is grease and muck city ... even an initial clean with water and paper has brought a lot of the muck off. The fret edges however are "green" dirty ... reading the wisdom in other posts, it seems the best way to tackle this is with lght steel wool? (after first masking off the pups just in case!) (2) I am missing the tip of the pup selector switch - screw tip non existant - solution = remove the switch and replace? (3) The pups themselves and most of the hardware is quite tarnished. Again, with gentle rubbing and water I removed some layers of obvious grub .... next step = brasso/silvo? (I have screwed out the screws and placed them in vinegar .. see how they look in the morning (4) There is a nice chip of lacquer taken off a top corner of the headstock ... any advice on this? (5) Finally!! .... any other advice for generally cleaning up the overall body laquer / shining it / restoring it a tad? thanks all! Allen.
18. This is a super bass - neck has a real smooth "buttery" feel, I have the 4 string version and can vouch for its quality both in feel, playability and sound! Very under-rated - Good luck with the sale!
