  1. NOW SOLD, FOR THE VERY LOW ASKING PRICE OF £240 AND £300 I'm quitting bassing due to ongoing health issues and long term university commitments. As a result, I'm sadly parting with my beloved gear. Next up are my gorgeous TC Electronic speaker cabs. You have no idea the blood sweat and tears I poured into acquiring these two beauties - they were hard enough to get hold of in the first place (bought from seperate basschatters), but as a student and a non-driver, securing transport for both of these was a living nightmare. But alas, despite all of that and several gigs of solid, reliable performance, they now have to go. They were bought from basschatters molan and floydelgar, both of whom seemed to look after them very well indeed and never used them for much more than rehearsal/bedroom. I've gigged them on average once/twice a month for the last two years and they're absolutely splendid workhorses. Together, they sound bloomin amazing, especially in a vertical stack configuration - bass nice and deep down below, clear and precise up high, it's a real pleasure to play in front of a rig that you can ACTUALLY HEAR. The caveat? They're the original finish. If you're not too versed in your TC Electronic history, the original cabs had a strange finish comparable to the top of a skateboard. Grips well, but is notorious for wearing away in seconds flat. Therefore, unfortunately their appearance does not reflect their condition, and they look kinda beat up - i've included a picture of the finish of one of the cabs to give you some idea of what you're dealing with - this is the top of the 212, so it takes the most of a kicking because the 210 is placed on top of it. Personally, I kinda like the look - i hope you'll agree that it's not THAT bad - and naturally it doesn't affect the sound at all. All the important stuff is in full working order, they've never let me down, and they've been cared for and beloved as the centrepiece of my rig. There's a nick on the bottom of the 212 (courtesy of gafbass02 ;-) ) and a scrape by one of the handles of the 210 (the previous owner brushed it past a door frame - only a cosmetic problem, mind) but I must stress that they're top quality high end cabs in full working order. I'm fully aware that the appearance of the cabs has to be a factor, so I'm doing them at an absolute rock bottom price (both cabs for the same price as an RS212 alone currently is new from some places!) also because I need the money pretty quick ;-) On top of that, I'll throw in an OBBM 1.5m speakon with each cab. Even better: if you buy the two together, I'll give you two whole OBBM 1.5m speakon cables ;-) RS210 - £240 RS212 - £300 Yep folks, that's what we call an absolute bargain. Folks, it's amazing, super lightweight, sounds hi-fi clean, tweakable to high heaven, has the best DI out i've ever used, some nice bells and whistles, and with 900 watts of class d oomph it has power that would make even the Incredible Hulk kneel. Loud? No matter what, I've never even had it close to 12 o'clock. Very well looked after, two careful owners (the other was one of my best friends and fellow basschatter gafbass02) and I still have the original box and everything.   3. I've given up bass playing for the forseeable future due to health problems and other commitments, and while I'm a student, unfortunately a lot of my beloved gear has just got to go. This is a bass that I got my hands on around Christmas time - always wanted a stingray but couldn't afford a "proper" one, but was able to track down this beauty second hand. It's a MusicMan SUB with active electronics. Their "budget" stingray, but still a premium instrument. It looks and plays like a stingray, and I absolutely love it, but despite being superior in so many ways it just never took over from my main frankenbass (which i ain't sellin for love nor money) so it only saw 5 gigs. Don't let that fact fool you - it's an incredible instrument and it sounds and plays phenomenally, but my fender/status graphite/wizard pickups/badass bridge monstrosity has just been "my bass" for far too long. It's in great condition, straplocks are fitted and included, and the strings are fairly new. There are one or two slight dings but it has never been dropped or smashed. Came with a slightly battered flightcase thrown in to sweeten the deal, and that'll be included. Great bass and I'll be sad to see it go. Looking for £350 - bargain :-) I'm located in Cheltenham if you want to try it out.   4. Also - please bear in mind that critical articles about the profession unfortunately have a tendency to contain a lot of misinformation, so please take what you read with a grain of salt. While it would be fantastic if all diseases originate from the spine - because it would mean that I don't have to take my exam tomorrow about bacteria, viruses, prions and protists - I hope it's clear that this is not reflective of the profession as a whole ;-)
  5. Very well-written and informative article, thank you! As a first-year chiropractic student and long time Basschatter/Basslurker, I'd like to throw some input in here. It's excellent to see that some of you have had great results from chiropractors. I did too, which is one of the reasons why I'm doing what I'm doing now. While I don't wish to get involved in the debate about "what's better", I feel that it's important to point out that the quality of the practitioner is a hugely important part of the whole process. My chiropractor's adjustments made an immediate and life-changing difference to my 2 years of constant pain (so naturally, I'm biased) but as JTUK pointed out, a system to retrain the muscles is a major factor in the rehabilitation process, as is generally having an awareness of your overall health and your limitations, while avoiding bad habits and bad posture. My chiropractor was able to provide exactly that service as well, and underlined the importance of looking after yourself. I would also like to add that I'm a generally a hugely skeptical person and I question absolutely everything in the world. I'm in my late 20s now and it has taken me a long time and a number of factors to get to the point where I decided that this is what I want to do. To clarify a little, although my personal improvement was extremely dramatic, it is not my sole reason :-)
  6. I know it's early days and nobody's had a go on one yet, but does anyone have any insight into what the compressor is going to be like on this thing? I've been using a Zoom B2 as my one and only gigging pedal for over a year now, but during gigs I've been borrowing a Boss CS-2 to make up for the fact that the compressor on the B2 is so shockingly bad. I've recently borrowed a Zoom B9.1ut for a couple of gigs, and the compressor on that thing is excellent. I was tempted to go down the road of ditching the B2 and going back to separates, but by the time I've done all of that (psu, board, etc) I might as well have bought the B9.1ut anyway. So then I flirted with getting a B9, but the thing is just way too big and expensive and I never use an expression pedal. So the B3 seems like it could be my knight in shiny red armour. Based upon spec/experience do you reckon it'll have a half decent compressor (my main concern!) and therefore be worth holding out for?

Well, I'm converting myself from plectrum to fingerstyle at the moment, but this configuration will suit that too hopefully? The stock Duncan Designed pickups in the jag are awful, so would I be well advised matching the J Hot Stack with an SPB-1 "vintage" P pup? From what I gather these are close to the stock fender p-bass pups. When I play my Jazz Special, I tend to roll back the volume on the P a smidge for extra bite anyway...
  10. Hi guys, I'm looking to kit my Squier VM Jaguar out with some Seymour Duncans, and I was thinking about going for the matched Quarter Pound PJ combo. But after doing a little bit of research, I'm now thinking that this might not be the best way to go about it. I've always been a fan of Humbucking Jazz pups, so I am now of the opinion that I should put a STK-J2 "Hot Stack" in the bridge to match the SPB-3 "Quarter Pound" in the neck. No hum, and hopefully lots of beefy rocky tone. But if I do that, would I be better off pairing the Hot Stack with a SPB-2 "Hot" neck pickup instead of the Quarter Pound? Or should I stick with my original plan? Very inexperienced in this, so need some sound advice In my main bass, I'm using a stock fender P and a humbucking jazz prototype that I won't go into much more detail about... needless to say, it sounds fecking ace!

Think that might be the way forward. They are indeed cracking basses. But is there any hope? Will pups alone make this into a great instrument? I installed a seymour duncan invader into my old Squier Stratocaster and the difference was phenomenal, but does the same apply to four strings?
  14. Hi guys, I've got a Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar. It's my "backup" bass and it plays well and looks like my dream come true, however the sound is not phenomenal at all. So my question is: what can I do to improve this? The Duncan Designed pickups are good, but they just seem to sound a little bit flat. So what would you guys recommend, and are there any success stories out there? I usually play quite rocky stuff, like Ozzy Osbourne, RATM, Metallica etc, but I often mellow it down a bit as well. The bass has a P/J pickup configuration, and ideally, I would like a humbucking jazz p'up of some description for the bridge. Dave

  21. Offers for the Bass Terror are also welcome, but please remember that it's much more desirable situation for me to temporarily be utterly skint but have 2 amps rather than be well-off and have NO amp ;-) If I end up buying a TC head, you'd be first in line for the Orange.

  23. Hey everybody, Orange Bass Terror 500 For Trade with a TC Electronics Classic RH450. *edit* Or I'll just buy your Classic RH450? I love my Orange Bass Terror 500. It's a brilliant, simple, powerful amp with a rich harmonic tone and plenty of grunt. It's always turned heads when I've used it, but it's only seen 8 gigs. Mine is up for grabs and it's in extremely good condition, comes with the official Orange gig bag and I'm throwing in the 40db DI attenuator for no extra cost (which solves the "Hot Output" problem like a charm). Why am I selling it? My cabs are the TC Electronics RS210 and RS212 which I use in a vertical configuration. So basically I'd just like to match 'em up by brand. The other thing is, while the Orange head is very much a small and compact Class D lightweight amp, it simply wasn't designed to be perched on top of a vertical RS210, and I'm tired of having to go to lengths to secure it on top or just outright place it on the floor/table to ensure that it's out of harms' way and subsequently negate the whole look of having a cool stack behind me My preference is to swap, so if you want to discuss the terms of this, drop me a PM. If someone out there is selling a Classic 450 , I'm also very interested. I'm all kinds of skint at the moment, but I would be happy to consider just purchasing the Rebel Head from you if you don't want the Orange. Once I get a feel for the price of the head I can then go about selling the Orange to recoup. But my first choice is ideally a swap to keep things simple

But for a fiver fix, who cares, right? So I had 4-5 gigs using my rig as backline-only and its sweet, warm, crunchy balanced harmonics seduced me very quickly indeed. Then I had a big gig with PA support, and I warned the sound tech in advance just in case. "Nah it should be fine, mate." Then... "Woaaaaaaaaaaah" he said during soundcheck, "Yeah, it looks like we're going to have to use your little metal thing." So I plugged it in, and within an instant it was problem solved. So yes, for some god-only-known reason, the output does indeed need to be attenuated by a whole 40db! The good news is that this cheap little tube will do the job quite nicely, at the only expense of sticking out a good whack from the side of your head during the gig. And a fiver, of course... Other than that, it's one hell of an amp, and despite the slight trade-off in size and weight, I don't regret getting rid of my Little Mark II for one second. -Dave
