1. Ok guys, my GAS build-up is close to detonation in regards to the OTB. It reminds me of the olden times when I used to play that horrible twangy 6-string tenor bass, at which point all I ever wanted was an Orange amp. This became a distant memory when I switched to real bass, and for months I've been quite happy with my Markbass LMII running through either my Peavey 4x10 or my TC Electronic 2X12. But now I've found out about the Orange Terror Bass 500, everything has changed. Everything has come flooding back. I WANT ONE. Everything about it looks and sounds awesome, and from the clips I've watched, it seems like it's a direct highway to the sound I've always been after. The only thing that's frightening me about it is this DI problem I've been hearing about. Can anyone shed any light on this? Is it really painfully hot, or is this something they've fixed now? I want this to be my gigging amp, but it's a pretty major flaw if it's unusable in a live situation :-\

Please consider exploiting these assets via the power of print to attain what is rightfully yours before incurring the cost of an overseas phone call. A proper letter is a rarity these days. Yours will likely be noticed and acted upon. Please keep us posted. Gary
Haha, why thank you, I am pretty articulated I'll do just that then, and I'll be sure to let you know how it all goes. I still keep checking my inbox for some kind of reply... nothing!

4. Cheers for everyone who recommended CH - sounds like they're very well respected, they've got a great selection, and I'm sure I'll be using them in the future!
5.
They owe you what you paid for and you can prove it. That foil is yours. Please write them a professional letter which includes the date and time of the terse (non)response you received from someone who was either having a bad day or just doesn't like their job. Guitar Parts Resource LLC 12456 Lancaster Street NE PO BOX 266 Millersport, OH 43046 Phone: 740-467-2823 Fax: 740-467-3245 [email protected] And after you've written your letter... http://www.guitarpartsresource.com/feedback.htm I won't wish you luck since situations like these call for tenacity.
Thank you very much! I'll do exactly that if I continue to get no joy. I'm a little bit loathed to send post and make telephone calls to the USA over a few sheets of copper, but I'm also not that keen on giving companies money for nothing! I've worked in agonising retail enough to know what it's like to get the burning misanthropic rage, but even in my darkest hour I always had the decency to apologise to someone! :-\
6.
Just out of curiosity, why did you wait over 45 days? Even standard slow mail takes only 14 days to ship. Also, probably a silly question, but have you tried calling them?
One of those hindsight things, I guess - the Friday the 13th boxset I ordered from America a few years back took about 3 1/2 months to arrive due to a customs issue, so I was just overly patient, especially considering it was just copper and nothing more substantial. Not to mention that I was hugely busy at the time, and having to deal with a frak-ton of electrical hum from my bass. I ended up installing a humbucker-in-single-coil-casing from Wizard Pickups, and that sorted it out mostly, but there was the whole process of getting hold of it, installing it, rewiring, etc - the foil kinda fell by the wayside. I haven't tried calling them yet, but I guess that's next on the list. Of course, because so much time has passed, I don't know where I stand with my rights, and considering how they responded to my email I'm not hugely optimistic :-\
7. Well, this has SERIOUSLY annoyed me, as Guitar Parts Resource are a company I'd previously heard nothing but good things about. So I ordered some shielding foil from them a couple of months back. A great deal of the stuff, likely enough for a good 3-4 basses, if not more. I waited patiently as it was coming from America to the UK. A couple of months passed, and it was nowhere to be seen, so clearly something must have gone wrong. So I dropped them a friendly email saying I hadn't received the item yet, and if they had any clues or knew anything about it. I even copied and pasted everything from the paypal page including the transaction ID so they knew exactly what I was talking about. Their response was one micro-sentence, simply stating that they "couldn't even look up something" that old. And that was it. Not even the slightest attempt to help, apologise, sympathise or even offer a single dollar off of a re-purchase. They didn't have the courtesy to address me or sign a name at the end - nothing. Just an absolutely rude message of "tough". They haven't even replied to my follow-up. And because I waited more than 45 days for it to arrive, PayPal can't do anything. So I've basically given these guys money for nothing. Hope they're happy.
8. You're a demon dude - love it!! :-D Nice to see someone slap with a bit of flair. Huuuuuuuge Metallica fan and you did it big justice!
9. I saw him at Download too, and I was absolutely captivated! In the space of a year, I've now seen him, Rex Brown and Billy Gould live on stage - my holy trinity! I was fascinated by that extended thumb rest that conjoin his pickups - GENIUS!
10. Was nosing around my old youtube uploads, and found this, so I thought I'd share with you guys - me, covering the bass solo from Jethro Tull's Bouree, their brilliant Jazz interpretation of the Bach lute masterpiece. This clip is a couple of years old, but this solo is one of the main reasons I ever picked up a bass in the first place. I'm playing my headless Hohner B2ADB, which is their licensed Steinberger copy. Lovely lovely bass. It's running dry through my trusty old Laney combo. The noise in a background is a midi of the high hat followed by the little flute accompaniment at the end - because I'm cool like that Would love to know what you guys think! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiE6bvNDnyM <-----click Incidentally, here is a clip of me (with MUCH bigger hair and some dubious camera work) playing the actual Bach piece on acoustic guitar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRasjBojmEw
11. Here's my situation: I connect my main amp and cab with a speakon. My main cab has two speakons and two jacks; My big secondary cab only has a solitary jack input. To link the two cabs, I can either get a: 1) Speakon-Jack cable and hook the speakon-out of main cab to the jack-in of second cab. 2) Jack-Jack cable and just hook the two cabs together using way. Before I order one, is there any benefit or downfall to going down the speakon->jack route? I'm always dubious about using different connectors, but I guess it's exactly the same signal, only a different plug. Or are hybrid and jack-jack speaker cables just absolutely identical and neither holds any benefit over the other? The main reason I'm going down the hybrid route is because it's one less surface to electrocute myself on
12. I recently bought a Zoom B2 mini-multieffects to replace the only pedals that I ever used, which are (mostly BOSS): Chorus, Noise Suppressor, Drive, Compressor and Tuner. It does the job absolutely crackingly to my ears, and using a clever system of Clean/Drive/Chorus/Clean/Drive/Chorus...etc I'm always one button press away from my desired effect. Beats having to worry about powersupplies and lumbering around a big pedal board - it fits neatly in the pocket of the backpack that I carry my Little Mark II around in :-D It's also perfect for practice, thanks to the built in headphone support and drum machine. Perfect! My question is - has anyone else had such a similar success story with one of these things? Or does anyone loathe such pedals, or have any valid reason as to why I shouldn't be doing this? Right now, I really can't justify going back!
13. Thanks for clarifying! I thought this was the case. I won't, and will probably never actually attempt this in the real world, it's just that my curiousity can be a dangerous beast sometimes By the way - I just got back from Download festival and my 1m Speakon Cable is here safe and sound :-D Excellent quality and service, I look forward to buying from you again.
14. Bit of a weird one, this idea just popped into my head and there's no way in hell I'm finding out the hard way! My amp head and my cab both have a speakon and a 1/4" jack connector. What would happen if both of these were connected up at the same time? I'm not quite dumb enough to think that it would double the output But my initial guess is that it would cause no damage and just sound exactly the same. Of course, it could also short everything out and explode. But does anyone know for sure?
15. The mini version of the classic Electroharmonix pedal - almost identical sound, but in a normal sized stompbox case, and uses a regular boss-style power adaptor instead of the weird 3.5mm thingy. I would take a picture but my cameraphone is off for repair. Great condition, the rubber feet have been replaced with velcro strips though. £25 including delivery.
16. This effect pedal is all kinds of awesome, but I've barely used it since I got it. I purchased it with good intentions, but I'm just a clean/drive/chorus kinda guy! I would post a picture by my camera/phone is still off for repair, so here's all the info you'd ever need: http://www.digitech.com/products/Pedals/BassSynth.php In great condition, seen a grand total of 2 gigs, and I'm pretty sure I've got the original box for it somewhere £45 including delivery.
17. Bumpy bump - bearing in mind I'm desperate for money and this is an awesome 120w hard rockin' combo
18. It's a tricky one - my instinct says get the 2x10 for exactly that reason - warm down below, punch on the top. And of course, there's the added benefit would that it would give me two different types of cab, which opens up a whole world of options and portability. But my logic is saying that I like the 2x12, so get another one. It's tricky, and I don't really have the luxury of experimenting! I'll have to have a good think. Besides, my old peavey 4x10 is still working, so I've got that for now if I need anything more than the 2x12! Anyone know where I could try out these cabs in a real environment on no money?
I'm lucky to have the option to try both these options, and believe me it works either way. As the 210 would be close to your ear you would be getting the sweeter punchy high end near your ear, then the warm low and mids coupled to the floor. TC designed them so they can be mixed and matched. If 'phasing' was a serious issue, then all the manufacturers who insist on it would be making a lot more money. I can see why people prefer not to mix speaker sizes, but it really doesnt make that much difference in the real world. Basically, try if you can. If you like it, you like it.
19. My Laney HCM120B "Hardcore Max" bass amp combo is now officially up for grabs! Nice little amp with a single 15" driver, 6 band graphic EQ, built-in compressor and an awful lot of punch and power for its size. It has had moderate use, having been my main practice amp for about a year and seeing its fair share of open mic gigs, but I haven't really "nailed it" as I've always gone straight through the PA or mooched other peoples rigs historically Still, it's been around the block and as a result, some of the white plastic caps for the EQ have fallen off and been replaced, and there's a little bit of wear and tear on the carry handle, but other than that, she's still in decent enough shape, still going strong, and I'm hoping there should be many years of life left in her yet. The only reason I'm selling it is because I never use it anymore and I desperately need the money I'm asking for £100. I can arrange free delivery in the UK, but collection is always an option if you can make it to the Cheltenham area. Let me know if you're interested!
20. So, thanks to all of your advices, I went and got my hands on a TC Electronic RS212 cab. And luckily, it's absolutely awesome. The question now is where do I go from here? My instinct so far says go for the RS210. My bestest bassplaying buddy is strongly of the opinion, and I've been told the same by people on here. Before I go spending more money I haven't got and taking the plunge, does anyone have any compelling evidence as to why I should go for another 2x12 instead? Or is a 2x10 a no brainer for vertical stacking punchy bliss? Would appreciate your opinions
21. Just bought a TC Electronics RC212 cab off Floyd - top bloke, great communication and generally very pleasant to deal with. Highly recommended!
22.
Up here for thinking down there for dancing.
+1 for this mod, works like a charm!! Now i just need to make the washers gold to match my gold hipshot lol
23.
That is brilliant!!! (its one of those "why didn't i think of that ???) Very nice one!!
Yeah, totally!! Why don't they just come like this out of the box lol!
24. You genius! I'll give this a crack sometime, looks like it'll sort me right out. I had an inkling that a nice tight screw would solve my problems (ooh err...) so i'll see what I can conjure up myself.
Here's my beefed up one...
