looks lovely
I almost bought a double neck, it was white.
What does it sound like?
-
I recently collected this piece, having won it in a proper auction.
It could be a very late '63 but is more probably very early '64 as it doesn't have the raised logo.
It's a feather weight, as it's hollow.
One volume control is seized but I'm going to try and take it apart and repair it. It needs a tuner ferrule and a screw for one machine head
I've plugged it in and it has that sound.
I may name it Paul, after my late brother who was born in '64

I wonder if Ashdown are recommending linear power suplies as some switching ones can be noisy. Not something I've found with the HB supplies BTW.
In your situation, I'd try your Mooer unit - assuming it'll provide the 100mA - and see how it goes.
The Boss 230 is worth a try if the Mooer doesn't work out.
HTH
ok cool, I'll try the mooer and see what happens
cheers
-
I have a mooer too but it's switchable and I was told not to use one
It's all too complicated lol
-
Dave at Ashdown told me 100 ma and 9 volt. It must be linear and not switching.
Would a boss PSA230 do it, just for a really simple set up.
I'm trying to keep the cost down here a little, so I can get everything sorted and keep the weight down too

Played in Ramsgate last night with Verity Bromham. Had Kev Hickman depping on drums who did a marvellous job. I tried an XVive in ear unit that John lent me along with my rig. The engineer pointed me to an app to put on my phone and I set up my own monitor mix - bloody amazing. Journey home was a nightmare due to road closures, road out of Ramsgate was shut as was the M25, A1 and M1. Bolleaux! Got halfway home and realised I’d left my house and car keys at the venue. So I had to leave my car at Johns, get Del to go right out of his way to drive me home then wake the misses up at 3am to get in! Why the funk do I do this?!! Was a cracking gig though!
where was the gig in Ramsgate?

I ordered one of these from Bax Global for £236.00.
It's arrived and it's very nicely made and it has got me thinking.
It doesn't come with a power supply, which although isn't really a problem (I have a voodoo labs pedal power two on another pedal board) I would like to mount this preamp on a smaller pedal board
with maybe just a tuner.
Also, no FX loop, again I don't use FX so it shouldn't be a problem either but say I wanted a little chorus on my board, I can still stick it throught the front
So I'm asking you lovely people what other power supplies could I use for this, my boss tuner and chorus pedal.
I can't post a pictute atm, it's at home and I'm at work

I play with a gentle touch, and use strings that are responsive enough to still sound vibrant when only being tickled (50-110 rounds and 45-105 Chromes)
I've tried La Bellas both in the FM and FL gauges, and both times I found that the real character of the strings only comes out when they're given a heavier touch than is usual for me.
Without having any conscious intention, I found that my ears were urging my fingers on, that I found playing the La Bellas more tiring for my fingers.
Perhaps something similar is happening for you?
I must admit that I beat 7 bells out of my strings when I play but my fingers have toughened up now, since I started playing more

I recently had an offer of an audition and one of the pieces they asked me to learn was 'Fool For Your Lovin'. I'd played that many times so no problem, but the band asked me to learn it note for note as this was the way they did all their covers. I decided (for the reasons above) that the band wasn't for me and they appreciated that. But as an exercise I decided to learn the original bass part myself. What a revelation! The song I thought I knew had far more happening on bass that I had ever realised.
dodged a bullet there I think
I'm sure Neil Murray explained on this very site, that he sort of busked it. He hadn't written all the fills, he just played it

for my 80s duo I just nicked the name of a TV cop show (from the 80s) that had two people in it
Miami Vice
and when we turned it into a band added the word Reloaded
Miami Vice Reloaded
think along those lines
bu Neon Yuppie Coke Machine does it for me

I checked my JMJ yesterday, for neck dive and there was zero
I used my Hofner violin bass at the weekend and that does sit a bit weird on its strap. Tilts forward but it's so light it really doesn't matter
I cant wait to use it again

If they did them in red could you do something like the Synchronicity digital logo thingy? That would be awesome
don't you mean ghosts in the machine logo (that would be clever)

Those are my babies, one of the best purchases I’ve made for gigging. Apesticks by ApeLabs. I got a tour pack of 10 from Thomann, which means you can charge them in their flightcase, plus you get 20 small metal panels you can attach to anything suitable (I got a load of cheap photography stands off amazon) so the lights magnets can clamp on. You can operate them with a remote but I forked out for the wireless Bluetooth controller, which means you can control them via an app. The app will run 4 groups, you can assign the lights to any, and you can create your own colours and programs, then design a scene for each song. You can set the sensitivity to sound or speed a cycle runs in seconds. I’ve had a ball coming up with different set ups using the stands then having different moods for different songs, plus the controller will send DMX to other devices, so all our old up lighters match the scene as well.
Here’s a few set ups I’ve used over the past year.
amazing but too rich for me atm
thanks for the info

I've just found this thread, as I was looking into whether Ashdown did a pedal like this (as my Police Tribute has gone completely IEM)
Bax shop had one left in stock at £239 so I bought it.
It's a while till our next gig but I'll take it along (with my bass gear, Just in case) and will try it live

Maybe your action is high on the Höfner?
I think I've worked it out
I played the hofner yesterday at a gig, with zero problems. I think the last time I used it, I just wasn't playing much bass and my fingers probably weren't up to it

Did a dep gig yesterday with my Police tribute guys (their normal pub band)
I decided to use my Ltd Edition Hofner 500/1 union Jack bass. The whole band have just gone IEM and my bass sounded unbelievable in my ears.
Great gig, we wheeled out lots of Beatles songs, some Small Faces, The Who, The Jam, The Police, Oasis
IEM have totally changed gigging for me

After last week’s shenanigans with the full 12 piece band, including the percussionist doubling on pedal steel, our most straightforward format albeit my least favourite, 6 piece with the horns on tracks at Tewksbury Park at a smallish wedding. Nice room to play in, easy sound to manage and a up for it crowd. Dep guitar did great, singer decided he’d DJ the end of the evening, everyone happy.
what are those lights please?

I sold this to @police squad a few years back as I had a Mike Lull incoming. He sold it in fairly quickly.
It was dreamy. I think I'd like to bring it home at some point.
I sold it to @BMBR 6 months later. I wished I hadn't now but we all know how it is
Hope you're well @NancyJohnson

So it was quite quiet and poorly attended but the bass solo was great? 😂
red nose day, it would have been dead.
Stupidly I didnt check their FB page (which I usually do), they were very surprised.
It was a duo gig, keys was half way there, so I phoned him and he turned round and went home
Still, will give us a laugh tonight

my gig last night is actually tonight.
Turned up a day early, this is the first time I've ever done this in 38 years of gigging.
Luckily the gig was very local to me, 5 minutes in the car
DOH!!

Sorry if this is derails the topic and is better asked separately, but are any of you short scale fans of the bulkier/tall persuasion?
I am around 6ft and on the hefty side and really worried that I would look ridiculous with a short scale.
I'm just under 6 foot and I think it looks cool
