It’s the med scale G5123B . Originally it was a special run for Guitar Center in the US. Every store was to get one. They were never available in Canada. Just orange. They were Electromatics , built in Korea , but had the TV Jones pickups you normally found in the more expensive models. Later there was a run made for Thomann , and I think one of the distributors in the UK might have had them. The European run was also available in burgundy , as well as orange. So they were a quick run , made about a dozen years ago. Reasonable price with TV Jones pickups. There was speculation at the time that they might become a regular model , but it never happened.

edit … I mostly prefer short scales these days , but was an old Pbass guy that got into Rics. I don’t have any hand issues or physical complaints , I just came to prefer short scales after picking up a Dano Longhorn about 24 years ago.

what's the neck like please? any other info you can give?

This was the pic I showed to Herself. She immediately said “get it”. And when it arrived thought it might well be the most beautiful bass she’d seen. I found this in Boston so it wound up being a little more than expected by the time it landed here in Halifax , but no regrets.
I had been looking at these for about ten years , they never were offered here in Canada.

what is this please, I need one !!

  3. I had a Police tribute gig in Chatham, Kent. To load in you either used to bus lane and get fined, or as the precinct was dug up and you couldnt access it, a long walk with the gear.

We spoke to the promoter for about an hour, then called it and went home.

I'm at the point in my life where I dont need the hassle, I've been gigging the local Kent scene since 1987 and now I do i for fun

If you’re using your stereo headphone out then you’ll need a 6.3mm TRS to dual XLR I think. The left input is likely to be mono only and if you use that you’ll need to set your receiver to dual mono mode. On my Sennheiser unit it’s called ‘focus’ mode.

    yes exactly that.

I have cobbled together an unbalnced lead set up and apart from some back ground, it sounds just as good as plugging direct into the desk with headphones.

Its quite intuitive too. I have found in the menu how to switch to mono, so I could have just one stereo side going to both ears (sounds horrible as my backinh tracks aree stereo)

I'll get a TRS to dual XLR from our man on here Chienmortbb

  5. so I've got it home but I dont think I have the correct leads to connect it.

It seems to be stereo input. Left xlr and right xlr and at the moment I come out of the headphone output on my desk and have the 'outfront sound'

I'll need a special lead, unless it gives stereo on the left hand input, I need to get my desk out to try it

I find this kind of gear a bit daunting at first.

But it does seem nice and solid, which is a great start

Just read the reviews - pretty glowing!

5.8 GHz should be a definite plus in terms of interference from other 2.4 GHz kit.

But it's a decent investment at 10 times the cost of the Lekato's, so hopefully will be quite a step up.

yes the reviews are great, we'll see how it goes, hopefully at tomorrow night's gig

  7. The pickup in my PB-50 is excellent. I get an awesome sound from it. The tuners feel a bit flimsy and stiff in places but they hold their tune perfectly

I may but another one and refinish it to a 50s Fender sunburst with no red in it.

    But there's no rush

  8. we use iZettle at work. I had a customer that owed nearly £10K who insisted he could pay if we took a card.

I spent 35 quid IIRC on the iZettle thing and he paid straight away. It cost us some fees but otherwise I didn't have much choice

we still use it now. It's very good

Allen & Heath do have a similar system, albeit more expensive. Do you mean the CQ20? That doesn't have it as far as I can tell. The QU-SB does, although they're more expensive and (imho) will probably end up being phased out fairly soon

yes I meant CQ20. They're bound to come up with something

Check out the Behringer P16M. It's a small 16 channel personal mixer that you can connect to your IEMs and you have full control over your IEM mix in stereo.  I use one and it's superb, I just run a Cat 5 cable from the XR18 mixer to the P16M, connect that to my Sennheiser IEM transmitter and off I go. You can also get a distributor module that can feed the raw audio data to another eight P16M units so you don't have to use two aux channels per person in order to give everyone a stereo feed.

interesting mate, thanks. Can this be done with an Allen & Heath sq20 I wonder. If I change desk it will be to the SQ20

  11. yes I read about your struggle to get a fit. I'm lucky enough that the comply foam tips work well for me.

In my duo I just have the headphone mix, which gives me the outfront sound, this is great for my vocals and I can be more dynamic, knowing where my voice sits in the mix.

My Police gig the other night, also used the headphone mix, again it sounded really nice but I was the only IEM in theband. Now they're going to try it, their QSC desk has 4 aux outs and they can do personal mix via smartphone.

It'll be nice to use their desk next time, knowing that it can be done on the phone, with the compression safety thing dialled in

There's no protection on my analogue A&H desks but I'm considering going A&H SQ20b in the near future
