I am totally loving the IEM experiance and will not play without them from now on.
I recently did a gig using my Hofner CT500/1 violin bass and it sounded wonderful in my ears.
Using KZ and sonic foam tips is working perfectly too, maybe I'm lucky.
The bands that I work with are all IEM too except one, which does one big outdoor gig a year, all into the PA so I just set my own IEM up and they use floor monitors and again it works for me.
As a guitarist I understand that loud is great, it helps with getting your guitar to feedback and resonate better but in my duo (80s) I have to put up with the fact I can't get that experience, so I just play round that problem.

That's a shame because they do look amazing! Don't suppose she fancies selling it... 🤣
no I don't think so. It was a vallentines present to her, I think she still loves me😅

Yeah I just find he hasn't been responding to my questions with much detail. Asked for more pictures as there's some big looking scuffs on the bottom but he said no with no explanation, seems odd. Almost feels like I'm trying to persuade him to let me buy it at times.
leave it then mate

this is why I now use Ashdown gear. A british company with astounding customer service

I imported one from japan in 2008, for my wife. An excellent bass it is too. She still has it but it's been unplayed since her Bravewood arrived 11 years ago

Since when on basschat does having exactly no horse in the race prevent anyone from speaking their mind about those horses loudly ?

Did you consider any alternatives when deciding Ashdown and, if so, what tipped you in favour of this one?
I really like my RM500 and I like the Ashdown ethos.
The amp is simple to use and get a good sound from so I presumed the preamp pedal would be good. It sounds great in my practice room and at some point I was going to A/B with the RM, both into my desk and then to my IEMs to see if there's much difference
-
I have recently bought an Ashdown Pro DI pedal to do exactly this.
I normally use the RM500 evo2 but with my Police tribute going IEM I feel I can ditch the bass amp and cab
I havent actually tried it yet (at a gig) but it sounds good in my practice place, I just need to mount it to a pedal board or maybe just used it as a table top thing (so it doesnt get mucky)

Oh dear...I seem to have started something...gonna be in so much trouble if you guys are not hearing the upgrade benefit of the ZARs over the ZS 10s I'm finding - albeit from purely a home A/B and pre-gig! 😂
like you say, less than 50 quid, worth a go
I quite like the ZS10 that I have but am happy to try some other flavour too.
Best thing I ever did was go IEM, I enjoy playing so much more

Haha nice one! Look forward to finding out whether your view of them vs the ZS 10s ties in with what I'm hearing 😊
I've just ordered a set too

I'm thinking about a bass vi for a bit of fun.
What are the thoughts of the BC massive.

TC Helicon is a cracking piece of kit. It works stand alone as a vocal effect, but can also add harmonies which it will work out if you plug a guitar into it. Worked with two very good singers who use them to very good effect.
I used one of these with great success. Took a bit of time to work it out but it was very good
It also has effects on it too

hi mate, not really. It isn't weight issues I'm having atm. I think I have a disk out of place and it's pressing on the nerves. It's more a positional thing.
ATM I can't get out of bed in the morning and stand up until I've taken the cocodamol and waited about 15 minutes because of the pain. Then I could get up and hobble about. (it's actually quite scarey not being able to stand)
Physio tomorrow but lots of rest today/ tomorrow

I dont remember the music lessons at school really teaching us anything about music but I did learn the violin from the age of 6 till nearly 13.
I was quite lazy with it and didnt learn the scales very quickly but then aftyer about 5 years, I really got into it. Passed my grade 3 and then took up the bass.
Changed schools and the music lessons (only for one year, till o-levels took over, they didnt do the music o level) were better. We started singing basic harmonies and studied a bit of opera (quite interesting to me anyway)
But the more bass and gutar I played, the more I remembered of my basic music theory, Flattened thirds for minor, Minor 7ths.
My wife is learning piano, grade 5 now, and we talk theory a lot. She's very good with her theory and can tell me the notes in certain scales, whereas I have to think about how I would play that scale on a guitar, then call out the notes.
My violin sight reading was more like tab. I learned the the 'a' note on the stave, was an open 'a' on the violin and the that next like on the stave was the first finger on the a string. I didn't think about it being a 'b' (natural or flat) and depending on the key, the next note would have a gap on the fingerboard and it was C#. C natural would have had my second finger right next to my first.
I'm very pleased to have the amount of theory that I have, it really does help

Kudos to that, 30 of Bruce Foxtons basslines in 2 weeks is an achievement to be proud of
it was great fun and I realised what an influence he has been on my playing, many of my fills sound like his
I was listening to the Jam this morning, seeing what I can remember. Great band

I once turned up to see one of my favourite local bands (whom I have depped with on bass a few times) and the guitarist was taken ill. They couldn't get their regular guitarist dep, so I did it.
The singer couldn't believe it, that I knew all the songs on guitar. This was 30 years ago now, I eventually joined them full time, 10 years later.
The worst dep I did, I thought I could wing it. Quite an eclectic set but I am very good at busking, unfortunately the guitarist/singer was pretty rubbish and the songs I knew he played badly, so it was a bit of a car crash. I should have put more work in.
Best dep was for a Jam tribute called Total Jam. Mates of mine but I had 2 weeks to learn 30 odd jam songs, some of which I had never heard. I really worked my butt off for this one and delivered really well. I learnt some great Jam tunes as well and even sang David Watts (as Bruce does). I've depped with them a few times since
