Kudos to that, 30 of Bruce Foxtons basslines in 2 weeks is an achievement to be proud of

it was great fun and I realised what an influence he has been on my playing, many of my fills sound like his

I was listening to the Jam this morning, seeing what I can remember. Great band

  2. I once turned up to see one of my favourite local bands (whom I have depped with on bass a few times) and the guitarist was taken ill. They couldn't get their regular guitarist dep, so I did it.

The singer couldn't believe it, that I knew all the songs on guitar. This was 30 years ago now, I eventually joined them full time, 10 years later.

The worst dep I did, I thought I could wing it. Quite an eclectic set but I am very good at busking, unfortunately the guitarist/singer was pretty rubbish and the songs I knew he played badly, so it was a bit of a car crash. I should have put more work in.

Best dep was for a Jam tribute called Total Jam. Mates of mine but I had 2 weeks to learn 30 odd jam songs, some of which I had never heard. I really worked my butt off for this one and delivered really well. I learnt some great Jam tunes as well and even sang David Watts (as Bruce does). I've depped with them a few times since

  3. I did a gig a couple of weeks ago and they only had enough 'cash' in the till to pay us. The doorman only got half his fee but they promised to make it good te following day. Landlady wasn't about (unusually, this is a well run place) and they couldnt get in the safe.

They were moaning that people just mainly use cards these days and not cash.

I can see a time where we may have to start taking credit card payments  via these iZettle terminals etc, which measn the money will be tracked and prices will go up because of having to pay tax on it (not bothered as I declare my gig earnings anyway)

  4. Cool, I shall try a set of the hofner strings then.

The C/T is slightly bigger isnt it

Yes i have a nice thin neck on mine and as you say, edges nicely rolled too. I have no side dots, which I think is normal for 64, might use a sharpy

No the rectangular style the had in '64 I've owned this bass since November 1988.

ah yes, I can see that now.

I've managed to unseize my pot but I know it's wired wrong, so my next job is to have a look at that

I'm getting sound but have no volume control from either pot atm. It may be because I know the seized one is wired wrong.

I'm no good with electrics but I have a couple of chaps at work that are very good, I'll show it to them.

Do you gig yours then? I'm planning to gig mine and what strings do you use. My CT has Labella deep talking flats, fairly high tension and work well detuned half a step (most of my dep gigs are detuned half a step) and stupidly I moved on a spare set that I had unopened

Ah cool. I was just going by the spec on Amazon. It thought i read both were 8 hours.
i too will be pretty much right next to an amp so its more to stop treading on cables rather than to go walkabout.

EDIT. I can see now the WS50 is rated 5 hours. That would worry me slightly so I’ll stick with the 90.

I do 2x1 hour sets with a 20-30 minute break and havent had any problems with it dying. I stick it on charge when I get home and it's ready to rock

I also only use it to stop treading on cables, as a duo we play in some tiny places, so IEM, guitar and mic are all wireless now

Cheers. I did purchase that first, it’s £42 at the moment, but then saw that the WS90 had a bit less latency. Just wondering what else is different. Got the 90 coming tomorrow but i know i wouldn’t notice the latency from either.

i dont plan on using anything between the bass and amp (famous last words lol). At least not until i get settled. Picked the bass up for the first time last night since 2020.

the 90 has longer battery life, according to the blurb 5.6 ms latency as opposed to <6ms.

range is 30 meters compared with 100 meters of the 50. I havent even gone into the next room, so no idea on that

Sorry about the thread resurrection. Thought this the best place to get info.
I’ve just joined a band playing bass, and although i still have my Xvive system i see now there are plenty of 5.8 systems out.
As I’ll be rehearsing at a rehearsal complex with loads of other bands close by i figure a new guitar system is going to cause less hassle.
I’ve discounted the Nux for now, purely on price and that i dont know what will happen in the near future. Might get it down the line (or if the Lekato doesnt work out this weekend).
I’ve looked at the Lekato systems on Amazon and see there is a WS50 and a WS90. To me it looks like the WS90 has less latency, but is there any other differences (other than it’s uglier).

Cheers. It’s good be back with Bass GAS.  Keyboard GAS is crippling lol.

I've been using the WS50 since last year and have had no problems with it. No latency issue or dropout. I'm not very far from the receiver, it's on the floor plugged into my multifx.

It was less than 50 quid and I have done about 50 gigs with it now

Having sold off my big gig stuff I’m considering a 500w class D head to use partly at home and gigs if the opportunity arises ( may or may not )

Not looking at high end stuff and perhaps second hand

Really fancy an Ampeg PF500 or 800 to match my only remaining SVT112AV cab but open to other suggestions

    Ideally max price £700

What do you guys suggest ?

Anyone holding on to a PF series ?

Yes I still have my PF500. I used it for 7 to 8 years and it was fabulous.

I now use the Ashdown RM500 evoII. It is also fabulous. I keep the ampeg as a spare but as I'm more and more thinking of going straight into the desk via a preamp pedal, I'm not sure I need all this gear!!

wow, I've just looked at the new price for a PF500 £599 from PMT  (also £448 from giggear). Mine was £314 new 12 years ago

I sort of want to find a tatty but functional one, have it sprayed metallic brown and have the old Marathon chocolate bar logo on the mini pickguard…

I’ve started with an idiotic idea and it won’t go away…

    these are the best ideas

Really lovely I think it’s more likely a 64 as the neck has binding. I’m sure you’ll have visited the brilliant Steve Russell Hofner site and I’d recommend his book about the Hofner 500/1 Bass too. I’ve owned a few vintage, reissues and Contemporary models  but I really love the ‘Artist’ 63 reissue I bought recently. It’s a German made instrument but has a more modern poly finish to keep costs down.

Hi mate, I have the book too. The body stamp inside is 15 Jan 1964, so defo a '64.

i fancied an artist model too but plumped for this at a little over artist money. I have a CT jubilee which I like too but this is totally different.

    This thing is so playable
