Absolutely nothing to worry about. As stated previously, it's simply the finish sinking into the wood grain. Itcan happen with any finish. For example, on very thin nitro finishes it can be very noticeable. Poly finishes mask it better due to their thickness and plasticity. Last time I was in New York (last December), I bought a couple of guitars, 4 or 5 effects pedals and 40 sets of strings. I put the effect pedals and strings in my hand luggage. When I got to the security scanning section at the airport, I simply took the pedals and boxes of strings out of my small carry case so the scanner guys could see what the items were. In JFK and Heathrow, the security guys simply said "you've obviously done this before?". No hassles whatsoever

Pino's graphite neck (which he fitted while he had the original neck's fingerboard replaced) wasn't a Status one (or Strata as they were first known before Fender got them to change the name). I can't remember if it was a Moses or a Modulus neck. Maz (Pino's wife) can't recall which one it was either.

The Manchester Guitar Tech nitro ISN'T pre-cat!!! Rather, it's the real McCoy. Steve's spray cans are great. I've used the products on my surf green Eric Johnson Strat refinish, the refinish on the Shell Pink USA '62 reissue Jazz Bass, and on the shell pink mid 50's style P-Bass I did also.

I'm still waiting for the Delta Resonator Cones - the delivery appears to have gone amiss in the Royal Mail delivery system! Aagh!!! So, I reassembled the guitar using the original (cleaned up!) cones, and put on a set if new strings - D'Addario EJ42 .016-.056. Why would you want to switch between the caps? "one way makes the bass sound nice, the other way makes it sound like it's buried under a dozen duvets. Yeah, I want to keep that setiing!!! ". Hahaha Anyhow, I've still got a couple of the Mullard "tropical fish" caps left if any of you want to try the mod out. If you prefer the original "wooly" sound, it's just a couple of minutes to return the bass to it's original format.

Dear goodness that is tragic news. My thoughts also are with his friends and family, and with Elton, his band and crew.

At home I have all my instruments (guitars and basses) on stands. That way, they're easily accessible whenever I feel like playing any of them. Whenever I go out to gig, I can then select which instruments I feel like using. The cases are stored in a walk in cupboard in my hallway. Edit: I just found a Taylor Doyle Dykes Desert Rose acoustic an a built in wardrobe in my bedroom - I'll need to buy another stand so I can get that out on display too! Hahaha
