1. I have used the 1608 for over a year and I can't fault it. I use a standard small router which I have on longish cables so it can be mounted on a speaker pole to give good coverage on stage and in the hall. No one has mentioned he My Fader app which can be down loaded onto an iPhone. I usually have someone in the audience who can fine tweak any balance issues (Drums and guitars getting louder during the gig). Also the band can have individual monitor mixes which they control. The Thomann case is, to the best of my knowledge, the only bespoke case for the 1608. highly recommended. B
2. Santa Fe in Rent is a good work out for bass as well as being a great show.
3. The best compliment you can get at the end of a gig is "The band sounded great". Work on the ensemble sound which will probably require compromise from everybody, even the guitarist(s). Ever hopeful. N
4. Stop eating bread. It worked for me for pains in the finger joints.
5. Loop and twist every time. I use reusable electric cable ties. When I use a cable the cable tie is hung on the handle of the mixer case or bass cab then at the end of the night if you have a cable tie left over one of your band mates has nicked a cable!!!!!
6. You don't hear classical musicians complaining that they have to Mozart or Faure or Dvorak and other great composers. Why can't rock/pop musicians play the great tunes from the songbook of their life story? If other people also enjoy the experience so much the better.
7. I own the pa mixer and front line. The rest of the band are responsible for their own monitors (in ear or otherwise) and mics. Seems to work OK and spreads the transport issues.
8. Thanks for the responses. The MU Subs cover the full range of MU services but because I'm not a professional I have no need for the other services so the whole sub becomes just for the PL insurance. I will do more research. N
9. Hi All How many of you playing in a band have public liability insurance? I play in a 7 piece function band and I am covered through my MU policy but the rest of the band are not? I am questioning whether to renew my MU subscription (£177) because I feel I get no value from it as I am not a professional musician and don't use any of the other services offered by the MU. My Powerplay (Allianz) broker has quoted £180 to cover the whole band for a year but I have no idea if this is a good deal. Does anyone have knowledge or expertise in this are that they would be willing to share. Ta muchly N
10. Status supplied me with a Madarozzo bag for my streamline and the seams split after about six months. When I went back to Status for a replacement bag I was told they are now supplying Ritter bags due to quality problems with the old Madarozzo bags. The Ritter bag shows no sign of wear so would recommend.
11. If we don't support the only specialist UK bass mag then it will disappear for ever and we will threads complaining that there is no specialist UK bass mag. I would suggest that the quality of far eastern manufacturing makes it very difficult make a bad product these days and even if one did make it to the shops would a magazine waste limited page space reviewing it? That's why you will always see positive reviews.
12.
Heres a great Josh Stone track.
Who's Josh Stone?
13. I bought a secondhand Peavey Brightbox about 12 years ago. It's a 2 x 8 powered (100w) speaker which was designed to sit on top of the TNT amp that had the cross over. I have used this as: practice amp, amp for smal gigs, pa with karaoke or computer or ipod, monitor, etc. Just fantastic
14. Try one of these. It's more expensive but the is a bar that fits between the wheels to stop them folding in. I've had one for several years and it's saved many a strained back. 15. Hi all Has anyone got some music for the scale run at the end of the chorus? Thanks N
16. Supabock Routing was done to accomodate the 2 fliptop battery holders plus a channel for the battery wires. The preamp fitted into the existing control cavity. N
17. Chezz55 I live between Colchester and Clacton. The neck string anchor that ia attached to the bass just has slots for double ball strings. The "string thing" is a small block with 5 holes and 5 grub screws and is held in place by string tension. N
18. Bass now advertised in the FOR SALE section. N
19. I am selling my Steinberger Spirit 5 string fretted bass. I purchased the bass from new from the old MusicYO site many years ago and it has been well used. The bass has been upgraded by the addition of an Aguilar 2 band preamp running on 18v. The work was carried out by Mike Walsh. The controls are 2 x volume (one for each pickup) and stacked bass & treble. Things to note: There is a small dent on the back of the neck behind the 2nd fret. There is a screw hole on the neck joint where I experimented with a home made arm to hold the strap. The spindle on the treble control is slightly bent. None of the above affect the operation of the bass. The bass is otherwise as originally supplied by the manufacturer. I will sell the bass with the original gigbag, the "string thing" so the you can use single ball strings. A spare set of Double Ball strings. A strap with Schaller strap locks. I'm looking for £250 plus shipping. The Aguilar preamp is worth £70 alone. I live in north east Essex. I'm not interested in a trade. I'm selling the bass because I have recently purchased a Status Streamline. Pics attached

Here are my two: The one on the right was custom built for me and is my main giging bass. It's deep red in colour and is a dream to play. I told Mike I needed a 5 string fretless so when the bass on the left came back to Mike as a part ex he took the frets off and then presented it to me saying would be be the perfect match for the red bass. So out came the credit card! I have just started playing the fretless again and I had forgotten how good it was. I have a big gig comming up on 16th in The Albert Hall and I'm seriously considering using it. N
23. The Albert Hall is a great place to play. I play and annual charity gig there (16th November this year) on bass with a small group (piano, drums, guitar and trumpet) and 1000 school children all singing. On the assumption that you will have the use of the resident PA I suggest that you travel light with a small combo to use as a monitor for you and any other musicians close by. Last year I used a single 12" cab and had to turn down to a low level to allow the sound guy enough space to put me through the mix. He told me that before the installation of the current PA the Hall only used 2 12" subs for normal PA jobs so you don't need a lot of volume. Enjoy the day and think how many famous people you are sharing the stage with, although on a different night. N
24. Just a quick note to let you know that my band, Loaded Dice, is playing in Trafalgar Square on 1st July at 7:30. If you are interested please stop by and say hello. For info http://www.canadadaylondon.com/ N
