1.
on top of good ol' fashioned good time grooves, naturally!
I really want to see the guys live ... really, my kind of band.
 2.
To conclude, MIM Jazz, 70s style Seymours, Badass, dead 45-105 rotos. Basslines bass? Flats Squier Classic vibe, flats Cheap, cheerful.
Additionally, the Squier had a sponge mute, and the interview recordings had the bass going straight to audio interface (focusrite saffire) which may or may not have had the preamp turned on ? (Hard to tell from the conversation). The interview bass recordings did sound to my ears very like the studio vulfpeck recordings though.
No hint on amplification or recording techniques, although I'm pretty certain in recent live vids it looks like he's using a certain 2 112 rig of an alphabetically premium New York manufacturing location.
Err ... you might have to spell that out for me.
 3.
A new acquisition... none more black... apart from the white bits...
Very nice The USA twin to mine .
 4.
Anybody know a) what his single humbucker bass is and how he gets that hot fat sound please?
You may want to listen to THIS . Interview with the bassist, focussing on gear.
 5. I'm pondering getting stuff done to the shark. Lovely to play but the pickup/pre combos doesn't really suit me. Thinking getting someone to install a P+MM combo (MM splittable as per Lakland (3 way) or Clover (4 way)) and a U-retro deluxe.
 6.
were you there thursday? Sound was excellent. Lettuce were phenomenal.
I didn't want to hear that ... left it too late and didn't get tickets. I shall console myself that I definitely have tickets for George Porter Jr in March (Borderline).
 7.
Their top tune in my book... My First Car, complete with the grandest cowbell solo ever!!!
That's a great track
 8.
My next band will be something like Vulfpeck, or The Meters, that kind of vibe. Originals, instrumentals, just some funky s**t all the way.
I have very similar plans. Start in April. Drummer lined up already, guy I really enjoy working with, and we have a huge overlap in music tastes. Galactic and Meters at the forefront of those. Not too bothered about having a vocalist, but I suspect that to get a decent number of gigs we may have to include some vocal numbers.
 9.
Going back to my original point. I still think that sitting at a table with the lights down low, having a drink and a meal is the ideal way to listen to Lettuce.
I guess that's what it comes down to. Your response to Lettuce's music is to want to sit down in a nice jazz club. My response (and that of the band and the audience in the video I posted) is to want get up and shake my bits.
 10.
When I started playing bass in 1965, the only strings available were tape wound, flats to you and they were horrible, horrible things.
I remember buying my first precision in '76 and it came with fender flats (don't think they were tapes, not black tape at any rate and they had green silks). It was like ... you've got to be joking ... off they came to be replaced with rotos.
I've had LaBella Jamersons on my old Precision for about 6 years now and they get better all the time - very meaty! I'm trying Rotosound 77's (110) set on my other p and after a few months I'm not really enjoying them.
This is more like me in recent years. Bought a set of Labellas in 2005 or thereabouts ... they're still my favourite strings, that exact same set 8+ years later. Whichever bass they're on, that's my favourite bass.
 11. Don't miss this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C430AWTvMPs
 12. Great band. I found them mid-late last year, most likely from a post in the 'funk and groove' thread ... bought a selection of their MP3s. So yeah, thumbs up from me
 13.
I still think that it's perfect music to sit down in a jazz club to and actually the Brecker Brothers were far more funkier.
I don't know how you couldn't want to move around in response to that.
It's very nice and they are brilliant musicians but i prefer my funk with a few more rough edges that's all.
I'm wondering if you and I have a different definition of funk. I'm really interested you hear what you think of as funk with rough edges. This is what I think of when someone mentions brecker brothers, this kind smooth jazz has me reaching for 'skip track' after just a few seconds, just really not my thing at all. Fine for somebody else, just not me. That's why objected to the comparison of Lettuce and Brecker Brothers.
 14. Meters live in 2012: The highlight: People Say http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psPFhu4kKgw The whole thing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psPFhu4kKgw (Apologies to anyone who's already seen this on the funk and groove thread).
 15. I've seen Maceo Parker at Koko and Trombone Shorty ... great venue for those kind of acts. And Ronnie Scotts is perfect for, e.g. Dr Lonnie Smith, just hope it can be made to work for Lettuce.
 16.
are you coming down? worth checking out the support act bassment project who do a monthly night upstairs
Yeah, I hadn't heard of them till looking up this gig ... they're less up my street than Lettuce, but I'll be checking them out.
 17.
I'm not honestly but surely it's nice and pleasant funk for people in suits or at least those who dress 'smart casual'.
You're definitely trying to wind me up. I don't think you've listened to them recently ... and I see no suits in this this audience (or any other I've seen on youtube)
 18.
i'm one of the engineers on the gig at ronnies with some bands they take out the tables in the centre of the club and convert that area into a dance floor they did this with average white band and reel people last year i would imagine this is the plan for them too
That sounds more promising ...
 19.
They're nearer the Brecker Brothers than Funkadelic in the funktionary.
Now you're just trying to wind me up (the proximity to Brecker Bros allegation more than the distance from Funkadelic)
 20.
I'd say it was the ideal place to see them for the type of music they play.
Really ? Really really ? I much sooner see them at say Koko where I've got room to move a bit. Why would you anyone want to sit down for what's essentially dance music ?
 21. Why why why did they choose this venue ? I mean I'd love to see Lettuce, but sitting down at a cute little table with a lamp on it and being served drinks by a waiter is not really the right environment for that kind of band is it ?
 22.
Just finished a couple of builds inside Hammond 1590A enclosures. I am not really into graphics at the moment so I have gone for a brutalist aesthetic. First a valvecaster with a switchable feedback loop adding a bit more bass: It has a pink LED below the valve to soften up the look a bit. This was a real PITA is box.
Love it Cute.
Next is an LPB-1, [...] It lights the ceiling.
Arrghhh ... where are my LightDims ?
 23.
Congratulations! Its a lovely instrument, used to be mine and the only reason I sold it was the arrival of my AGC ⬇
Nice ... I prefer that to some of the other ACG bodies I've seen.
 24. A new one (to me) - Cort GB75 fretless with East U-retro pre. Lovin' it
