1. Thanks again guys... Dood, I was wondering, is your new single cut a set neck? I got to say, I'm so thrilled with this one, I'm seriously considering getting Jon to build me another (once the bank balance recovers!)...I'm getting the spec together now and single cut is on the agenda with a set neck...any thoughts? T
2. Good stuff Peted...I'm really looking forward to seeing this one I'm so chuffed with mine, I have been spec-ing up the next!!!
3. So...Sorry for the delay. Here are the pictures to help the imagination!! If you'd like any further information or to make me an offer, PM me Cheers, T PS - This one isn't on ebay as yet but I may consider it...if it doesn't shift!
4. It's an orange burst in colour...Sorry about the pictures, there'll be some up by Friday. Thanks for looking, T
5. After some soul-searching, I've decided to part with my Lakland 55-01 Skyline. It is not getting the attention that it truely deserves and I have a new addition to my bass family on the way that will only make the poor Lakie quite jelous and upset. Pictures in a post below...for those who want techie details, they are as follows - Nut Width - 1.81" Nut Type - Plastic Fret Size - .041/.085" Width at Final Fret - 3.3" 1st Fret Neck Depth - .81" 12th Fret Neck Depth - .92" Fingerboard Radius - 10-13" (Compound) Scale Length - 35" Frets - 22 Bridge String Spacing - .75" Neck Wood - Flat-Sawn Rock Maple with Graphite Reinforcement Bars Body wood(s) - Ash Fingerboard - Fretted Rosewood with Dots Tuners - Hipshot Lisc. Ultra-Lite's Truss Rod Access - Neck Heel: 4mm Hex Controls - Cut and Boost: Bass, Midrange, Treble, Panning-style Pickup Blend Control Master Volume (pull for preamp bypass) Bridge - Lakland Dual Access (through body or through bridge) Preamp - Bartolini MK-1 Pickups - SD Basslines split-coil soapbars (Thanks Hit&Run!!!) In addition this bass was a Deluxe Skyline 55-01 and has a quilted maple top. They don't seem to make the 55-01 Deluxe anymore but the 55-02 deluxe is still available on the Lakland site. This bass was brought new from the Bass Gallery in Camden in 2005 and has served me very well over the last 4 years. There are a few very very small dings on the body & headstock, but these in no way affect the playability or sound. This is a cracking bass and needs to be played. I am sorry to have to sell it but I cannot justify having it in a case in the corner. Anyone who wants to come and try it would be more than welcome. I'll provide the tea, you can bring the biscuits and cash... I am based in Ruislip, West London. And the price...£550. I'm not really interested in trades but feel free to offer me your 70's fender Jazz or maybe a PJ sadowsky Metro Thanks for looking T
6. Cheers BM and Tinman...Jon's turned out another beauty, a buckeye beauty no less Now it's just plenty of time in the shed getting it on!!!
7. Thanks guys, it's really is a lovely bass. I'm still getting used to the ramp and the action needs to be lowered a bit but I'm truely stoked Eude, The preamp is a volume and passive tone stacked (the big knob, if you'll excuse the expression); the lowest of the smaler ones is the pickup blend and the the upper 3 are bass mid and treble going up. The 3 switches are LEDs, passive/active and single coil/humbucker. I think jon has 3 preamps on offer and this one is the medium version. It really is crystal clear and represents the bass very well, no colouring of the sound at all. Peted, I had a look to see if I could catch a glimpse of you bass while I was there but it wasn't out where it could be seen. I really looking forward to seeing the result though And as you probably know, it's well worth the wait...
8. Hi all, I received this beauty just before Christmas and thought you'd like to see a few pics. This is by far one of the best basses I have played. The sound in passive mode is warm and full. In active, it's the same clear sound with more control available if needed...which I don't really think it is! Jon has done a great job and is helping me make a few mods to the ramp, etc...
9. Hey Guy's, Has anyone ordered the Bass Sessionz DVD from gospelchops.com? I placed a pre-order mid June and was told it would be shipped on the 1st July but haven't seen anything yet and I don't think the clips on youtube will satisfy me for much longer. T
10.
Harvest are lovely. Their guitar straps are beautifully made also... really top quality leather. I was speaking to the owner of the company and the guitar bags and straps are a side line to his main leather business. Check them out at http://www.harvest-guitar.com/ They are the only straps I have seen that would make me move from my Levy and Comfort Strapps. In fact... I'm buying a strap now!! (And I'm still waiting for my custom Levy strap to arrive from the States... I have a strap problem it would seem)
+1 for the Harvest gigbags. I ordered a full leather bass bag from Station Music 3 weeks ago. It arrived in the advised 5 days and is fabulous...In fact, I'd go as far as to say they are the best gigbag I've seen. Clearly for the price, you'd hope so but well worth the investment. It needs some breaking in and will no doubt age as all good leather products do but I can't see me needing to replace this for quite some time.
11. Hey Peted, Thanks...The finish has exceeded my expectations. I'm so glad I took a second to think about the top wood choice. I was originally going for a quilted maple but had a change of heart and went for the darker side. It may well help with the overall sound of the bass too, which I'd like to be fairly mids and bass and not too toppy. The pickups are pretty transparent so should be faithful to the wood tone.
12. Thanks CK..I'm pretty excited. I just hope the overall combination works out. I had a good look into it but you can never be sure until it arrives
13. Well...after waiting patiently since October for the first signs of life in my Shuker 5, Jon has sent me the pictures below. I had managed, until now, to put it to the back of my mind but having seen these pics, my desire to get my calloused fingers on this beauty has been re-invigorated 1000 fold Just to help you to see what I'm seeing, imagine a neck of purest Rio rosewood, 2 Delano pickups with a ramp, black hardware...goose-bumps just typing about it. I'm pretty sure there's a way to go but it's going to take weeks to calm back down.
14. I don't know if this has been mentioned earlier in the posts on the forum but this is an issue that the MU is aware of and they are working to resolve it. (I didn't read all 7 pages ) I've registered my "vote" against it. Not really sure how much notice they take of the petitions but it's worth registering an opinion. Signed
15. Hey Toasted, Congratulations on your choice...I'm considering a Sadowsky. I bought one of their outboard preamp a month ago and it give a really rounded full bodied sound to my P-bass. Perfect for recording and and live gigs where you go direct into a PA I've got some serious pangs going on. I put a deposit down on a Shuker in September last year and have had a kind of distant empty feeling ever since. I spoke to Jon last week and he's going to send me some pictures of the body this week. I'm so excited it feel like christmas when I was 5 years old ...but the anticipation is probably going to last for 4 more months I really can't wait.... Tiernan
16. Hey Hector, I don't know a teacher in Oxford but if you haven't been already, the Spin club there have some really great Jazz on and some cracking double bass players. They could teach you or know where you could find a local teacher. Here's the link - http://www.spinjazz.com/ Good luck Tiernan
17. Hey Eude, Looking good Glad it turned out the way you planned. (apart from the nut) I've been keeping an eye on the Shuker build treads recently as I have one on the way myself. I only gave Jon the full spec and chose the top wood in October so I think it'll still be a while before I see it...but i'm drooling at the prospect after reading about your Shuker and a few of the others that are on the way. Anyway, congratulations on the new addition. sound like it's going to have a great home and loads of use. Tiernan
18. Oh boy...this would sit nicely with my P-bass....must resist ! M_u_s_t R_e_s_i_s_t Good luck with the sale mate...A beauty for sure T
19. Thanks for the feedback so far (and the welcome)...I'm very much looking forward to being part of the Shuker club. The buck eye has been a favorite finish for a while and as the chance of a "buck-eye" bass turning up that fitted my spec is pretty unlikely, I figured a custom bass was the way to go. I'm keen on a more natural sounding bass...Not too much colouring from the pickups or pre-amp and something that sound good in passive mode too. Tinman, is it your 4 string buck-eye on the Shuker site? That was the one that made me ask about the Buck-eye. A beauty for sure Dood, is Jon making you a 7 stringer? I remember seeing a thread on here about on a while ago. On the waiting front, I spoke to Jon the other day and his advise was "forget about it for now", as things progress I'm sure he'll get in touch. I really must focus on something else... As more pics arrive, I'll post them so you can see the progress. Cheers, T
20. Hey Guys 'n' Gals I've just received some pictures of the front and back wood pieces I'm going to have on my new Shuker and so figured I would let you all have a look at the wood and spec. The colour will darken to a steely grey colour. 5 string bolt on bass Swamp Ash Body Buck-eye Burl top and back with matching headstock 24 fret neck 45mm Brass nut 5 piece laminate neck (Maple/Wenge) F/Board Rio Rosewood Medium fret wire two way truss rod Carbon fibre reinforcement Abalone face dots Side LEDs Black Hardware Gotoh Tuners Schaller 2000 bridge (3-way adjustable) Delano SBC 5 HE/s pickups Shuker Pre-amp I'd be interested in what you guys think...especially on the choice of Delano SBCs and Jon's Shuker Pre-amp. I have the fortune of trying a single cut bass with the SBCs and Jon's pre and found it to be superbly transparent. just what I was looking for. Now all I need to do is try not to think about it for the next few months...Not so easy.
21. Wow...Simply beautiful....congratulations.
22. I am truely in pain...That is stunning. If only....
23. Bigwan that looks stunning. I'm going up to see Jon in a few weeks to put down a deposit and begin the process. a 5 string, with John East/ACG circuit and passive Delano pick-ups. I wanted the option of fully passive operation with the passive tone control still available and the john east circuits offer that. I'll begin a build diary once it's all confirmed. looking forward to seeing your finished bass T
24.
It was amazing. I wasn't sure how much I was going to enjoy it as I'd had a long week, I was tired and I find most of Victors' songs (i.e. the ones where he sings) very cheesy. I thought it could go either way. But the band was incredible. Anthony Wellington was great and Victors solo was something else. And I bet that drummer feels like on of the luckiest drummers in the world getting the gig for the SMV tour. Stanley, Marcus and Victor. Can't wait for the album and I hope they come over to the UK, rather than just doing mainland Europe.
Absolutely...well worth the money and effort. The whole band were on it. Shame about the guy who felt it necessary to join in with Vic solo piece ("The Lesson") but I guess he was over come by the phenomenon that is Victor Wooten. Vic mentioned a tuition video he has shot with Anthony Wellington explaining the musical elements from his book, "The Music Lesson". Did anyone catch the name of it?
25. Tony, That really is a beauty...Would you consider A trade a Lakland 55-02 Dlx...And an amount of cash?
