  1. Yes, but it’s a lovely area to visit 😎. Ten minutes from Bath and all it’s temptations (Vintage&Rare..and a thousand plus restaurants and coffee houses!)
  2. Yes, it’s a distinct possibility..but more for the amp than the cab. If cash wasn’t an urgent need this would be staying here for a very long time. But, I have got some lovely old SWR stuff, and another GP11 preamp 😎

  4. Yes, it’s a reluctant sale. I’ve used this a lot for quite a few years, but the car is slowly falling apart 😳. Nothing seems to sell except Fenders!
  5. SOLD This is a very good quality bitser, assembled and finished as an early jazz bass ( stack knobs, slab rosewood board and felt string mutes). One of my main working basses, but work’s not paying well and the car needs replacing 😳 The body is solid alder, of Japanese origin and probably dates from the 80’s. Very accurate, includes router hump. Olympic white nitro, with natural wear and nice yellowing etc. Neck is from Bravewood, but refinished and re-fretted. Great slim profile, lovely dark board (slab with clay dots). Natural wear on the back. Gotoh reverse tuners. John Suhr pickups, proper spiral bridge, full stack knob circuit. Currently has old DR flats fitted and set up as an old style Fender, with mutes and covers. Currently this bass won’t do a low set up with rounds. There is some persistent fret rattle around the third fret, so some spot levelling would be needed. Plays nicely with flats as it is. Haven’t tried to remove the sticker on the back- it’s been there a long time 😜 Collection from Bristol/Bath area much preferred, comes in a basic Ritter light gig bag. Any questions?

  7. Going back a while, I tried the “flat” speaker approach. Most impressive was the Euphonic Audio CXL 112. It was a great cab, but two things proved annoying - firstly it was something like 45lbs so took a bit of effort on those tricky load ins. Secondly, it was a transmission line design, using a custom speaker, so if it got damaged it was hard to get a replacement - even EA couldn’t supply one a year or two after they stopped making those cabs. Now I’m using one or two TKS S112s. They are voiced, but much less so than the SWR/Eden etc cabs from the 80’s. I also still use a Bag End S15, again it’s voiced, but not that much.
  8. Ageing car means cash needed, so no trades please. Really. AH150 head from mid 1980’s with Mark IV GP11 preamp. A warmer sound than later versions, only let down by some circuit hiss..but it has a noise reduction system that makes it disappear in any gig situation. In fantastic condition, just a few scratches to the vinyl on top. Serviced/checked over last year, and new green power switch fitted. A great amp, and nothing like the weight of the bigger Trace heads. Trace Elliot “BLX” extension cab. Early 1990’s with 1x10” and a small treble horn (not adjustable). Small and heavy, but makes a nice domestic/small gig set up with the older amp. Well used condition, but not abused. Collection from Bristol/Bath area - I’m around a lot at the moment 😳. Happy to answer any questions, even why they put the XLR input on the front!
  9. Yep, I only found out recently (on here, from Tech 21) that they assumed you would run your amp from the parallel unaffected jack, and only give the treated signal to the PA. My soundchecks have never been long or sophisticated enough for that! I've always used fairly clean amps (SWR) and little eq so its never been a problem. But it does explain why all the suggested settings in the booklet (blend set 100% wet) were pretty much overblown and awful for me.
  10. Alex Aguilar designed the sadowsky preamp (then the Aguilar DB924), and this will run on a battery. That's enough to get me interested...
  11. I loved the sound and feel, but had too many strings break. At the headstock, or the bridge, on different basses. Too expensive for that, so I’m using DR flats now, up to three years so far..including thru-body stringing.
  12. A truly lovely instrument. Small body, so it’s quiet on its own, but well behaved when you plug it in. I played this a lot when the kids were young, but it’s not getting used much now. All solid wood, (spruce top, mahogany) beautifully made and in great lightly used condition. The Fishman under saddle element has been removed, and a K&K pickup fitted underneath the bridge plate (glued). This is currently wired direct to the socket, but the original preamp system is all there, and easily brought back into use - a new pickup element is all that’s needed. The original pick up is still in the case (it’s a Fishman, pretty standard). The strings in the photo are D’Addario black nylons, but it’s currently wearing Martin bronze acoustic strings - they are horrible and I’ll try and replace them soon 😳. Collection from Bristol /Bath area much preferred - this is a bass you should try!
  13. Can't help thinking the new Trace Elliot (Peavey) cabs look potentially good for upright bass. They do a 1x10 and 2x8 currently and some dealers seem keen to shift them at attractive prices.. Anyone tried them?
  14. I use an Orchid Electronics active DI/mute pedal. It’s got a simple good buffer preamp, so helps piezo pickups sound a bit fuller, plus the mute switch is very handy. I’ve used it for years, in front of many combos by GK/SWR etc etc. Many years ago I was talking to Jon (Orchid’s designer/maker) about high input impedance, and he thought the benefits of going very high (over 3M?) were minimal, and usually just started to add more potential for noise problems.
  15. I'd suggest a simple wooden rack case (Thomann sell many, under the Thon brand) with the shallowest depth to fit, and lighter draw type latches. If your amp gets warm, also consider a spare empty 1u space above just to make sure it can cool. I've found even the better rack bags don't last that long before the Zips go etc but a wooden rack case can do many years. Plastic cases can be ok but are not that good if the amp is heavy...

  19. I gigged there briefly last year, during a quick tour(ette) of Kent. Very nice place, had a lovely walk about during the day and the local promoter was joy to work for. Hope your gig goes well!
  20. You can also use the effects send to connect a DI box. That should give a decent signal, but may overload/distort an active box, so probably best to use a passive transformer DI. (Look up the Radial Pro I or StageBug SB2)
