Noll. And I’d honestly suggest sticking with Maruszczyk’s own pickups - not only are they genuinely very good, they don’t incur an extra cost on the configuration!

Thanks Cameron. Why do you suggest the Noll preamp? 🙂

  2. Help Please

So I've decided on my custom Elwood C. What do you think? 😎

    Question is...How do I decide on pickups/preamp?

I think I'd prefer 3 band EQ but torn between Delano, Noll, Aguilar for preamp but no idea which pups. So many options!

Difficult to make a decision without hearing them side by side.

    Any advice?

    Thanks

Yep really happy with my ZS10. I prefer them to SE215, which is the other ones I've tried.

Thanks. ZS10 and AS10 look great. Any tips? Which system do you use with them?

  4. Looking to move onto IEM for my function band.. Not sure whether custom is necessary but I've read quad drivers are a minimum for bass?

Any recommendations for 2019? This will be for myself and our vocalists. I understand you get what you pay for with IEMs but not sure on the budget at the moment.

I think I'd prefer wireless. We use the Behringer XR18.

    Thanks

  5. My wedding band are looking to upgrade our Alto Subs in the near future. We already have the RCF 732a's which are great but we're needing more low end FOH for some of the gigs, and the 732s.

We run the whole band the PA via Behringer XR18 - Guitar, Bass, Drums Vocals etc.

We're only looking to purchase 1 x powerful sub and have been looking at the RCF 8003-AS-II but some of the reviews mention that it sounds great but clips too easily?

Has anyone had experience with the RCF Sub or another that would be a good match for us?

    Thanks

    1. Via the DI. Yes.

    2. EQ bass cab for onstage monitoring

2b. EQ on XR18 for front of house sound. Send the bass from the head preDI as the tone shaping on the XR18 is more comprehensive than that of the Genz.

Keep the monitor volume from your amp setup on stage as low as you can. Roll off the bass... when people add bass, you tend to add indecipherable mush. Add lower mids.

That's great, thanks for the advice.

I noticed the bass was sounding quite thin through the PA last weekend when I went out front. I'll look at boosting low mids on the XR18 as oppose to bass/bottom end?

  7. Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has experience with this desk in a live situation?

I have the genzler magellan 800 and Barefaced BB2 on stage and use various pedals including a diamond bass compressor. I've been using the Genzler di straight into the XR18 (Pre).

FOH we have 2 x RCF 732s and 2 x Alto Subs. Our Drummer controls all of the sound via the Ipad. We mic up vocals, guitar, bass, kick and 1 x overhead mic for most gigs.

    1) Is this the best way to connect the bass to the desk?

    2) Are there any EQ tips you could give me that have worked for you?

    Thanks.

That looks decent bang for buck. If it’s placed at the rear of the stage the band will be in silhouette so you will probably also need something to the side and/or slightly in front to illuminate you all. As @taunton-hobbit said, you need to be careful with lasers but class 3R looks like it can be used with minimal risk.

Great thanks. Maybe one of these for side stage?

TBH I think you might struggle to light up both the stage and dance floor for that budget.  I would prioritise lighting up the band rather than the dance floor if you need to compromise.

If i was looking to spend that budget I would go for the LEDJ Q Colour to provide a colour wash for the stage.  One on each side of the stage, mounted on stands, would work well and provide ample coverage for a 4m x 3m (and bigger) stage.  That would leave a couple of hundred quid to provide effect lighting that could further add to the stage show and also light up the dance floor.  There are quite a few Chinese made moving head lights on eBay that offer a lot of functionality for the money.  You could probably pick up 5-6 units for the remaining money.

I'm assuming that you are using some type of lighting controller to operate your lights via DMX but all of the above can be used with in-built programs without a controller.

FWIW, my band uses the following setup:  LEDJ Q Colour x 2, LEDJ 7Q5 x 7, ADJ Inno Pocket Spot x 2, Equinox Slender Beam Bar Quad.  Airstream DMX controller (via iPad)

    Gaz

Thanks for the input Gaz. Been looking at these today which look pretty good.

  10. Just interested to hear what others are using for lighting at weddings?

We are a 5 piece and already have a couple of floor moving lights but need something to light the stage up and possibly dance floor. Stage size is 4m wide by 3m deep 90% of the time.

Looking for a system that is attractive that will look impressive. Not sure on budget... Perhaps £500-£700.

    Thanks

  11. Should be able to make this :D

We've used them for large function rooms /social clubs and wedding marquees, a piece of advice a mate gave me was that for weddings and functions you only need the dance floor area at full volume, great auntie Ethel sat at the back isn't that bothered about heft!

Obviously a gig watching your favourite band that you've paid £100 to see you want to hear just as well anywhere in the venue.

All that said I'd happily put my 735s against your alto sub and any 12s as tops, take into account you could use your sub with the RCF tops and you'll have a killer pa with only three boxes.

Thanks. Is there much in it between the 735 and 745s?

Oh....Well done Pete, that's just killed the thread. Nothing more to see here, move along please!

On a serious note, this is the right answer. Awesome cabs and no need to the sub. The RCF 745a is even better!

Thanks for the replies. I'll be sure to look into thr RCFs. How big of a crowd have they handled on their own for you?

  14. Hi

I run a 5 piece wedding band and perform at various weddings, functions parties etc between 80-150 people. Potentially up to 300.

Genre of music is motown, Soul, Pop, Rock etc.

2 vocals, guitar, bass, drums and backing tracks for keys, brass, synth go through FOH.

We already own the behringer xr18 desk, 3 x alto monitors and 1 x alto ts215s sub. We're now looking for 2 x powered speakers to upgrade from our current Alto ones as they're not putting out enough power.

I've been looking at the EV ETX-12p. Does anyone have experience with these speakers or could recommend something within a similar price bracket?  From what I've researched it seems 12' tops are the way to go as oppose to 15' Thanks

  15. Interested to hear what people's thoughts are on these 2 basses.

Anyone out there A/B them who can name their differences?

I played the TM5 at the bass gallery and it was an amazing instrument. Loved the neck and versatile tone. It seems you can custom both of these basses and create a pretty impressive instrument but I'm torn between the two as never got my hands on a Maruszczyk.
