  1. With gigs returning I've finally pulled the trigger on the Ultimate Ears UE6's.

Good timing too as they're offering an additional 3 x pairs of faceplates for free worth £190 🙂

My budget couldn't stretch any further and the UE6 seem to be the best bang for buck in this price range.

Looking forward to the step up from my kzs!

Id take the UE6 over the JH7 for bass. I’d take the JH11 over the UE6.

Can’t speak for Alclairs, never listened to any to judge. CMVK is good from a headroom point of views by the looks of things - but driver count without proper tuning can sound like and out of phase trashy sound. So until I heard one and tested it, that’s pretty much all I can say. They may be great, they may be not. And of course, what you like may not be what I like!

Cosmic Ears sound like a solid UK based company. Anyone have experience with them?

CE6B model in particular which are £600.

I opted for the Pod Go purely because I think it’s more functional for live use with the more foot switchable options. Sure, the Stomp XL is dropping soon, but is suspect it will be quite a bit more costly then either the units you mention.

I don’t think the slightly reduced functionality is that much of an issue between the Stomp and Pod, especially for bass and especially live.

What it ultimately boils down to is do you really need parallel effects routing? If you do get the Stomp, if not, get the Pod.

I was under the impression that parallel effects routing was superior when creating patches as a lot of effects can lose the low end. At least that's what I've experienced with most individual pedals.

Is this an advice request or 'item wanted'?

I may be looking to move on my spare HX Stomp seeing as I've been doing a lot of DIY builds recently, so having an extra Stomp for guitar noodling is a bit excessive!

Sorry more advice at the moment. Looking to purchase in the next couple of months.

  5. Looking for some advice for an all in one solution for live gigs. No amp straight to FOH using in ears.

I'd just like something simple with decent amp simulations and a few various effects...

    Thanks

The UE6 are popular because it gives the headroom in the lows that bass players demand (balanced armatures aren't so great at headroom or bass department - thats where the dynamics come in in the UE6, complimented with the balanced armature in the high to give you the detail, air and sparkle that they really excel at). In short, the UE6s tend to give a more warm sound than a BA equipped equivalent IEM. That doesn't mean however, that they don't sound absolutely brilliant - they will kill pretty much anything else out there sound wise for a comparable price - at least for a bass player. UE7 and UE11 wise, the double drivers in the UE11 are going to give that better controlled, low end response. The UE7 tend to be a bit bass light or not so great at delivering the low end without breaking up if you dig in.

Headroom is king for a bass player. Hope this helps.

If you have the money, custom is where it's at for sure. Night and day compared to the KZ.

Very helpful as always. Thanks 🙂

  7. Looking at upgrading my KZS10's in the near future. Potentially a newer model... KZAS12?

I might even go down the custom route. UE6, UE7, UE11 look promising. I suspect going custom will be night and day to what I'm using now. The UE6 get a lot of love from bass players so not sure if it's worth splashing out for the 7's or 11's?

One thing I've found from the KZs is that they slide around in my left ear during live shows and I'm constantly adjusting. Also the tone it reproduces is quite thin and sometimes low volume, even when I've maxed out on the Behringer P16.

FYI - Going into a Behringer XR18  - Silent stage from now on.
