1.
I'm a "neck-gripper" and seem to wear frets like nobody's business :/
You're not Patricia Morrison in disguise are you?
  2.
Very good. Then you can easily move it on when you realise you don't need a J-bass!
+1. Hideous things that they are!
  3.
In my opinion there is no such thing as a 'one fits all bass'. And since you asked; yes, I think this is a bad idea!
+1
I've never found a J pickup to blend well with a P
+1 Aye don't get your bass butchered! Instead why not go for a 2nd hand Squier PJ Special if you really want to experiment? I had one which I upgraded the pup's in and to be honest it still sounded crap, ended up playing it with the J pup turned off. and yeah I'm older than 30.
  4.
he's probably agreed a deal outside eBay with someone!
I think I might have scared him off, I sent him this about an hour ago. Dear peds858, Hey mate, Do yourself a favour and change the description of this bass, as I can guarantee you that it is NOT a Fender! Here's a few things that are glaringly wrong! 1. Fender's have the truss rod adjuster at the heel of the neck, not at the headstock. 2. The headstock is the wrong shape, 3. The bridge is wrong, yours has 7 screws whereas a Fender has 5, 4. The Machine heads are not stamped with the Fender logo. 5. There is no serial number on the neck plate. - unraveled1962
  5. 7 screw bridge? ....it's more than likely a stripped back early Westfield, Gear4music etc.
  6. Vile! 7. ooh pardon me! He was using something black with a rosewood neck back in '82 (could've been a Yamaha). Sure he was using it at Reading in '83 too, minds a blur TBH.
  8. It's nowt new!
  9. Back in the day it was Highway Song by Blackfoot.

    Fave guitar solo?
Just this. You could say that for a bass player, Im slightly obsessed with Robbo... Check the solo out from 2:45 - and look at the way he struts forward - sheer arrogance, but it works for me!
Great song, He plays this solo better on the Live & Dangerous album. But then again, apart from the drums, Live & Dangerous is a studio recording.

    Fave guitar solo?

Two more gems. Rory. http://youtu.be/cO0RBvVR0mk Billy Duffy. (When The Cult were credible) http://youtu.be/n1R4ld0TZPs
  12.
I love the colour These are great bass guitars
I agree totally!
'Tis a lovely golour but looks like it's had a fair old bash down by the jack socket, big chip out of it & I'm wondering how far that 'possible crack' or join in the wood separating, might run under the scratch guard Wouldn't risk it without close inspection personally.
Aye too right! The chip wouldn't bother me too much, especially where that one is, as it's in general damage territory. The cracks though are a different story, they could run deeper or could be just in the lacquer, at least he had the decency to highlight all the damage, (a lot don't!) after all it was obscured by the stand in his other pics. On the other hand, it went via a private bidder for it's starting price, could've easily been a mate or a family member winning.
  13. I bet a few have your eyes on it though! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330760959530?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_500wt_1202
  14. Rory Gallagher - Calling Card. Superb guitarist!
  15. If my memory serves me rightly, David Paton is the bass player on the Kick Inside album.
  16. These used to stock Epi parts www.rosetti.co.uk
  17. There yer go http://www.ebay.co.u...d8#ht_898wt_952 or if you prefer chrome http://www.allparts.uk.com/online-shop/guitar-bass-parts/bridges-parts-tailpieces/bridges/bass-bridges/bass-bridges-4-string-singles/bass-bridge-for-gibson-bass-3-stud-mount-p-1669.html
  18.
this has got to be the stupidest thread to date...
Nah, I've seen worse!
  19.
I had an 8-string one of them back in the 80s, I loved it at the time, but it had the most vicious neck-dive of anything I've ever picked up. Keep thinking I'd like another, but I'm suspecting that's nostagia talking...
Aye I know where you're coming from there. I felt the same about my old Hondo II Precision. it's like that "The sun was always shining when we were kids" analogy ....in reality we all know it wasn't!
  20. I'm surprised no one's mentioned these Washburn/board B-20 monstrosities with their hideous triangular necks. Very horrible indeed!
  21.
White, black, maple. Doesn't get much better than that.

Apart from Black,Black,maple.
Aye I agree with both views, and they have to be Precisions too, non of that ugly off-set body Jazz malarky.
  22.
Glad to hear that this has had a positive outcome. Now don't do it again!
Cheers Paul! and no I won't ....ever. Finish product on show in Gear Porn/ Precisions. (Gloat, Gloat)
  23. Thought I'd show off me £50 Squier VM Precision with it's new Mighty Mite neck. First song I played on it was Accidents Will Happen. After the broken screws debacle, http://basschat.co.u...ade-good-again/ it just seemed right! http://
  24. Thanks again for all your advice fella's. Mission accomplished, the mole grips worked a treat.
