1.
One thing about your signal path though - the DI from your amp head will most likely include the mic signal coming in through the effects return, so you would have a duplicate mic signal going to the PA - one directly from the mic DI and the second coming from the amp DI. I could be wrong though - and your amp's DI might be pre effects return, but if it is then it might also be pre EQ too and then that might affect the sound of your pick channel. Though, that might actually work in your favour as your pickup would be unaltered by any amp eq changes. Ignore me if this doesn't make sense - I think I've dropped the ball somewhere here.
Thanks, Gareth - what you said completely makes sense. I checked, and on my amp (which is a Streamliner, BTW) the DI is switchable between pre- and post-EQ, but either way it's always before the effects send. And thanks, everyone, for all the suggestions. A few options for me to consider.
2. I currently play with a pick-up which goes straight into an amp head, which drives my cab and also provides DI to the PA. I am considering adding a mic into the mix, and I'd like to be able to control the blend of mic/pick-up going to the on-stage amp without affecting the signal going to the PA. It is ok (in fact probably preferable for the sound engineer) for me to send two separate DI signals (pick-up + mic). I'd like the pick-up to remain going via the pre-amp before going to PA. The mic requires phantom power. I think the solution is to buy a DI box and some sort of mixing device (eg Boss LS-2, Samson S-mix, other suggestions?). Does that sounds about right, or have I missed something? Any other considerations?
3. +1 for Thomann. I once ordered a double bass, which I assumed would come with cheap strings, so I also ordered at the same time a set of my favourite (at the time) strings, Spirocores. Unsolicitedly, Thomann emailed back to inform me that the stock strings on that particular bass were already Spirocores, and just wanted to confirm if I did indeed want an additional set. I was impressed by this level of proactive customer service which saved me £100+.
4. To clarify, when you say "the handle clip popped off but Alex advised it should push back in with the correct tools", which bit is the "clip"? Do you have any photos? Thanks
5. Bump.
6. +1 for Chromes. I have them on my fretted Ray34CA. Ed Friedland has flats on his 4-string Stingray Classic in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlMStrT5A6M
7. (Edit, 8th Jan: NOW SOLD) This was purchased new in June, 2014. The colour is honeyburst, and it currently has an aftermarket "aged pearl" pickguard. The original black pickguard is also included in the sale. The bass is in very good condition: I have gone over it and found no dings or marks. Currently strung with Ernie Ball Slinky strings. (N.B. the photos below were taken when it had D'Addario Chromes.) The bathroom scales weight is 4.2kg (9lb 4oz). Bass is located in Wimbledon: collection (and try-out) is welcome. Or I could possibly deliver or meet half way, if you are in the south-east -- please PM to discuss. I also have a suitable box, so I can post within the UK for £10. Here is some info from the official page (http://www.sterlingb...s-international): "The Ray4 and Ray5 basses are the cousins of the Music Man StingRay 4 and 5 basses. Classic, iconic instruments that defined a generation of bassists since the late 70′s. Active electronics, low noise hum bucking pickups, rock solid hardware and a simple, uncluttered look that is instantly recognizable and respected. "We start with a solid hardwood body. Light, airy bodies full of tone are attached to a slim, easy to play full scale maple neck. A narrow 38mm nut width (Ray4) and 45mm nut width (Ray5) was created for easy playability. Medium jumbo frets allow for effortless fretting. The slim neck and narrow nut feels at home with small or large hands."
8. Bump for updated photos and lower price.
9. I bought one of these: http://www.ebay.co.u...s-/191222640452 , which is described as: "Pickguard for MUSIC MAN StingRay 4 Bass Guitar – designed to fit the classic 4 string StingRay models", and it fit my SBMM SUB Ray4.
10.
Do you still have the original neck?
No, sorry, I don't.
11. Thanks for all the PMs. This is now sold.

Sean's Feedback

Bought a book which arrived quickly and as described. Thanks.
13. Edit: This has now been sold This is a Mighty Mite "Licensed by Fender" 60s "vintage" maple Jazz bass neck, part #MM2909vt. The hardware is from a Matt Freeman Fender Squier. One of the screw holes for the 'G' tuner is too large, so it is held on with only three screws. Price includes UK postage.
14. Edit: this has been sold now. This is a hybrid passive four-string P bass. The body is from a Fender Squier Matt Freeman Precision bass, purchased new in Jan, 2013. - contoured basswood body finished in Vintage White - HiMass™ bridge with four brass barrel saddles The neck is from a Fender Modern Player Satin Jazz bass, purchased new in Nov, 2013. - maple neck with "C"-shaped profile - 9.5"-radius rosewood fingerboard with 20 jumbo frets - easy-access truss rod adjustment wheel Official Fender pages: http://intl.fender.c...-vintage-white/ http://intl.fender.c...color-sunburst/ The neck join is good but not air-tight (see photo, below). I have gone over it this evening and the only ding I found is on the body where it meets the neck (see photo, below). The bathroom scales weight is 3.3kg (7lb 4oz). Front: The bridge and pickup covers were imported from America (due to the HiMass bridge). Back: Neck pocket + ding: Included is both the current tort pickguard and the original black one (still with protective plastic): Included but not pictured: tug bar. I will include, for free, an old but functional generic shaped case. Bass is located in Wimbledon. Collection (and try-out) is welcome. I have now learned how to set the white balance on my camera. The actual colour is closer to this:
15. 27th Jan: This has now been sold Updated price: £250 For sale only - no trades. The BB425X is a passive five-string PJ bass. The two control pots are master volume and tone. There is a three-position switch to choose which pickup: neck, both, or bridge. You can string either through the body or through the bridge. Currently strung through the bridge with Rotosound Swing Bass 45-130 roundwounds. This bass was purchased new in March, 2013. It is in very good condition: see photos, below. The bathroom scales weight is 4.7kg (10lb 6oz). Official Yamaha page: http://uk.yamaha.com...25x/?mode=model Small tiny marks on the bottom edge: N.B. It might look like a scratch on the pickguard, just under where the neck starts -- but it's just a rug hair: Tiny dinglets on back of neck: No case included, sorry. But I have the original boxes. Bass is located in Wimbledon. Collection (and try-out) is welcome. Or I could possibly deliver or meet half way, if you are in the south-east -- please PM to discuss. Or I can post within the UK for £10.
16. I think "Blue Rondo à la Turk" does have a quaver conversion, although it's unrelated to the 2+2+2+3 grouping of 9/8. When moving from the head (9/8) to the solos (4/4), you switch with 3 quavers = 1 crotchet. It's about 1m50s into it: Another example of a conversion is "Killing in the Name": from the intro to the verse, about 40 seconds in, it converts with 2 triplet crotchets = 1 crotchet. (I don't know how you'd formally notate that...) As a contrast, here is an example of a "non-conversion" (i.e. "quaver = quaver"): The composition is mainly in 6/8, although the third bar is in 3/4 and the fourth and fifth are in 4/4. All quavers are the same length as each other -- but I'd argue it's a lot harder to tap your foot along to the Metheny transition than the RATM transition! Another, different example I can think of is: Technically, you have "crotchet = minim" at 1m14s and again at 2m44s -- where each time, the chord progression goes round twice as fast as before. Then the reverse at 3m22s and 4m22s.
17.
Fantastic necks. If you decide to part it can I have 1st dibs on the neck?

I will keep you in mind mate, not wanting to split at the minute, l will wait and see if anyone wants it first. Cheers
I sent you a PM. I'm interested in the body if you decide to part it.
18.
Wow, nice! What does it look like without a pickguard. I'd imagine even more beautiful.
19. Mine's honey burst -- but the correct pickguard colour is, of course, aged pearl
20.
Has anyone tried one of these; http://www.thomann.d...bass_bundle.htm It looks like it's been "inspired" by the DPA 4099 mic, but is obviously much cheaper.
I was curious and bought a "t.bone Ovid" mic (£37) after reading about them in this thread, but have only just got round to trying it out in the field (at a jazz gig in a church). I used the mic just to record the bass, not to amplify it at the gig itself. (I was using a pickup/amp for sound reinforcement.) Bad - It seems to crackle on some notes, although perhaps it will not be audible in the final mix. Good - With a drum kit about a metre to my left, and an open grand piano about a metre to my right, I thought the mic would just pick up everything. However, to my surprise, it is picking up the bass quite strongly. Here is the isolated recording from the mic. It was mounted in front of the (g string) f-hole, pointing towards the bridge. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_F_gKVFu5A I have increased the volume of the recording, but it's otherwise unedited/unprocessed.
21. [s]Still available.[/s] Edit 19th July: this is now SOLD.
22. Ilian bought a bass from me and it was a smooth and quick transaction. Thanks!
