1. As requested, a couple more photos of the marks/scratches on the back/upper horn: http://i.imgur.com/HJFhrZL.jpg http://i.imgur.com/P5CWjwT.jpg
2. I picked one up a couple of weeks ago. First time I've owned a short-scale bass, or a hollow-body. The overall length of the whole instrument is the same as a normal 34" bass, but the scale is shorter since the bridge is some way into the body. Switched the strings to D'Addario Chromes. By the way, despite the 30.3" scale, it takes normal 34" strings due to the distance between bridge and tailpiece. Doesn't weigh much: 3.0 kg. Haven't played it out yet (first chance to is over the next few days), but so far at home it seems to have a nice, deep tone but while still remaining tight - not boomy.

6. Duxford: The wheels in the foreground are Concorde's. Natural History Museum: Upstaged by Dippy the Diplodocus. Hippodrome (London): I stashed my bass in the corner. When I came back, these people were in my way.
7. One positive story for south-east London pubs is http://www.ivyhousenunhead.com/ , which was rescued from property development by the local community. It is a great pub, with real ales, food, and live music etc many nights of the week.
8. Edit 29th Dec: This has now been sold. For sale: Sire Marcus Miller V7, five-string, swamp ash £340 posted Trades: perhaps a four-string Precision bass or a VT Bass pedal. I bought this in early November from Thomann for £398: http://www.thomann.d...mp_ash_5_nt.htm They are currently out of stock until 21st Jan 2016. Location is south London, so if you are anywhere nearby it could be picked up in person or delivered half-way (send PM to discuss). I have the original packaging (inner and outer boxes). Bathroom scales say 4.3kg (9lb 8oz) More photos uploaded here: http://imgur.com/a/LEduK
9. I play a lot of Motown/soul. In the past, I have used a Precision and a Yamaha BB -- they are both great basses and you can't go wrong with either. However, I've been using a 2EQ StingRay for the last year and really enjoying it for live work. I would say that, whatever bass you choose, the key to the Motown vibe is flatwounds strings, a foam mute, and plucking near the end of the neck (rather than towards the bridge). I've found that the advantages of the StingRay are that it responds better under my fingers, cuts through on stage better (10-piece band) without being too forward in the mix, and it is sunburst. My Precision is not sunburst. Having said that, I have a recording session coming up for which I'll use the Precision. Here is a back-to-back comparison, if anyone is interested: https://www.youtube....h?v=dVf_5-Y9l94
10. I also double 50/50. For a while, I had a Streamliner 600 + Barefaced Compact which was pretty nice, although the treble control didn't seem to make much difference. I felt there was slight room for improvement in terms of the definition of the notes. Current rig is a Shuttle 9.2 + Big Baby 2 and couldn't be happier with the tone (and volume) capabilities. All the amp controls make a noticeable and pleasant difference although I generally run it flat. Unfortunately (for the purposes of this thread) I changed head and cab at exactly the same time, so hard to say which component was most reponsible for the improvement. Also, I always use an Auralex Gramma pad which helps tighten the sound on boomy stages.
11.
I've been considering the USA SUB series... but prefer slimmer jazz style width and profile.
Also consider Ray34CA.
12. Do you mean a "chord chart" (or just "chart")? It is a very concise method of notating a whole song. Example of a chart:

14. (EDIT: now sold) A unique design of pickup which straps round the bass. There is a comprehensive thread on TalkBass about it: http://www.talkbass....eadway.1019940/ Manufacturer's website: http://www.headwaymu...nd-double-bass/ Stock image: Actual item for sale: Comes with original box. £115 including postage.
15. NOW SOLD Selling t.bone Ovid CC 100 mic, plus the clip and case. Comes with mini XLR and full-size XLR adaptor. This is a condenser mic which needs a phantom power supply. I had good results with mic, but unfortunately the 10-piece band I currently do most of my gigs with is way too loud for any microphone. Clips on to the strings below the bridge. Gooseneck allows positioning of the mic. http://www.thomann.d...stem_cc_100.htm http://www.thomann.d...system_case.htm http://www.thomann.d...m_bass_clip.htm Stock image: Actual item for sale: £30 including postage
16. This is now sold This goes under your cab and isolates it from the floor, providing a more focused and tight sound... great particularly on boomy stages. I always use one at gigs, and am selling only because I have now bought the smaller version due to downsizing my cab. Manufacturer's website: http://www.auralex.com/product/gramma/ N.B. the current product is v2. The one I am selling is the older version (bought new in Dec 2013). 23″ long x 15″ wide x 2.75″ high £35 including postage. Comes with original box. Stock photo for now (actual photos to come soon...)
17. +1 on Roqsolid. I bought mine direct - http://www.amplifier...x&cPath=107_136 The website looks a little bit out of date, but go through it and you can customize with handle location, seam colour, amount of padding, pockets, logo, straps/flaps... I have one with foam padding and it worked out at £53.30 incl tax/p&p. They are made to order - website says 10-day turnaround, but mine was sent out after three days.
18.
Yes, it is b7-4-1. Some other examples: Praise You; With a Little Help from My Friends (chorus); Last Name (chorus).

But all of those resolve on what you are calling the 4
The chords of 'With a Little Help from My Friends' are: Verse: | E / B / | F#m / / / | F#m / B / | E / / / | | E / B / | F#m / / / | F#m / B / | E / / / | The verse is surely in the key of E. (Does anyone disagree with that?) Chorus: | D / A / | E / / / | | D / A / | E / / / | | D / A / | E / / / | Are you saying that it feels to you that the chorus is in the key of A? The final chorus at the end of the song is: ... | D / A / | E / / / | | D / A / | A / / / | | C / / / | D / / / | E || What key would you say the end of the song is in? To me, the whole song never leaves the key of E. But if others hear it differently, then fair enough.
19. Yes, it is b7-4-1. Some other examples: Praise You; With a Little Help from My Friends (chorus); Last Name (chorus).
20. Funny, it's the opposite for me... I really like it when the band (or at least the chordal instruments) drop out! https://www.youtube....h?v=kcMWov0_TAE
