  1. For a reasonable definition of "best", then yes! Would not have kept with it if I felt it was a downgrade or compromise.
  2. For gigs when there is no PA support (like in my above photo): the RCF is behind me, providing bass for both the stage and the room the QSC K10s are just for vocals (and maybe horns) the kick was unamplified keys had his own backline amp However, typically we do have PA support, which is two QSC KSubs along with the K10s, in which case: the RCF is in front of me as a stage monitor (just with bass through it) everything for FOH goes through the QSC PA (vocals, bass, kick, keys, and everything else) (BTW... the K10s might in fact be K8s - I can't remember.)
  3. My setup is quite straightforward - a Fishman clone for upright and an Xotic Bass BB clone for bass guitar (P bass with flats). Zero regrets about selling all my bass amps and cabs. FWIW those were Genz Benz & Barefaced, then before that Gallien Krueger & Hartke.
  4. It depends on the gig. Mostly I do have FOH support, and I use the powered speaker as a monitor. But some of the smaller gigs there isn't FOH and so I use it as a backline. I actually currently have three RCF speakers - two HD 10-A and one 732-A - as I am figuring out which options work best for me overall. For example, last night I used the 732-A as backline at a wedding, doubling with a six-piece band (drums, keys, two horns, vocals). (The QSC K10 on the pole was just for the vocals). The venue was this place - it's not a huge room, but the doors were open like in the photo and many people were outside.
  5. First, I've reduced the collection/meet-up price to £750. I live in south-west London, but I'm travelling to Oxford this Saturday, and to mid-Wales in a few weeks. Second, I'll now post this within the UK, at cost (£20) - but I'm only comfortable doing this if it's in a hard case. Unfortunately I don't have a hard case to hand, so I would ask the buyer to either send me one or I can arrange the purchase of a new one (at the buyer's expense). The cheapest hard case I could find is: https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Electric-Bass-Guitar-Case-by-Gear4music/800 , which is £50 including postage. Or I can purchase any alternative hard case of your choice. Finally, since it'll now be in a hard case, if you don't want the included gig bag, subtract £20. It's this one: https://www.public-peace.de/accessories/gigbags-suitcases/bass-gigbags/electric-bass/956-gigbag-standard So in summary: collection/meet-up: £750 delivered (you send me a hard case first): £770 with gig bag, or £750 without delivered in a new Gear4music hard case: £820 with gig bag, or £800 without
  6. I hear things a lot better when they are in front of me pointing at ears than when they are behind me pointing at (as you say) backside. What is your PA - do you have access to try out using a powered speaker? I sold my bass amp (also a Shuttle) and cabs, and now just use a modern powered PA speaker, in front of me on the floor in the 45° monitoring position. If it's too sterile, use a pre-amp, overdrive, or cab sim. It makes it very easy and relatively cheap to experiment and tweak - unlike buying/selling cabs which generally have a baked-in/signature sound (it might be a very good baked-in sound, of course - the point being though that it's something you have no control over).
  7. Do you need one of these, or similar? i.e. a modern amp but doesn't look modern. Markbass CASA Fender Bassman 500 Music Man BH 500
  8. Do you own something which powers those cabs? I wondered if you could use that, which you already own, instead of buying a power amp.
  9. Some things to consider: I've never used one, but it looks interesting: http://www.guitarsoundsystems.com/gss-1000w-sumo-guitar-bass-power-amp-c2x23791314 It might seem like going round in circles, but the smallest power amps are often found in class D bass heads rather than PA power amps. E.g. the above Tone Hammer 500 contains (of course) a 500W power amp - you can bypass its preamp and go straight to the power amp section by plugging into the "return" of the effects loop. What type of gigs are you doing? Have you considered selling the Barefaced and getting a powered speaker like an RCF 735-A? This is the route I went down.
  10. Still for sale. I can post this; alternatively, I will be in Bristol in July so could drop it off if you're somewhere along the M4.
  11. Can you restring the original E to see if it makes a difference? That might eliminate (b) and possibly (c).
  12. I have a (different) 5-string PJ and I've recently been experimenting with mixing strings -- I have rounds on the BE, and flats on the ADG. I keep it on just on the P pickup for motown stuff. Seems good so far.
  13. Good question! I've never noticed or thought about this, and I don't have a Fender to hand to compare directly - but I think you are right. I've put some images here: https://imgur.com/a/AmdoPKD
  14. When I'm struggling with GAS, I refer back to some wisdom I learnt from this very forum: Quoted from user PhilSpectone https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/9103-double-bass-buying-guide/?do=findComment&comment=332186
  15. This is back up for sale. The controls have been changed to volume and tone, with a three-way switch for pickup selection - see new photos. Afraid still no postage for the time being, as have no suitable hard case. However, I will be in Bristol in July, so could meet up if you're somewhere along the M4.
  16. Ibanez ATK805E Premium 5-string For sale only, at £550 (edit 29th June: now sold) collected from south-west London, or possibly meet up halfway somewhere in the south-east. Afraid no postage for the time being as have no suitable hard case. However, I am travelling to Birmingham this Saturday (30th June) and will be in Bristol in July, so could meet up if you're along the M4, M40, or lower part of the M1. I bought this bass from someone who bought it from Dave Swift (Jools Holland's bassist), who imported it from the USA. Very versatile with the two pickups and the three-way switch. Gets a Stingray sound for sure, and also close to a P and J. Controls are: Pots: volume, pickup balance, active 3-band eq. Then there is also a three-way bridge pickup character switch. Pickups are curved to match the neck radius. The neck is a "CAP Sonic Arch5" and the bridge is a "CAP Double Humbucker". Weight: approx 4.2 kg, and balances very nicely. Couple of small scratches -- please study the photos. Happy to provide further photos or details of any area. Body: ash Fretboard: maple Scale: 34" Frets: 22 medium frets with "Premium Fret Edge Treatment: processed to be specially rounded for smooth play and comfortable neck grip" Bridge: ATK5 bridge, 18mm spacing Nut width: 45mm Neck radius: 305mm (12") Machine heads: Hipshot I seem to have two feedback threads: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/159971-jrixn1/ and https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/235844-jrixn1-feedback/
  17. Two inputs does restrict your options. How about an A/B pedal to handle input selection, and then use any single-channel amp?
  18. Ibanez ATK805E? String spacing is 18mm. Three-way coil switch on the back double humbucker.
  19. Edit 17th July: SOLD I bought this last month for an upcoming one-off gig - but the gig plan subsequently changed, so the uke is now surplus to requirement, un-gigged. Played it only for a few minutes in the house, so it's basically as brand new. Includes: Makala UB15 ukulele bass Thomann gig bag Kala "Feedback Freezer" (currently installed in the sound hole, but removable) £140 posted within the UK, or pick it up from Wimbledon.
  20. Edit 28th June: now sold This is the Myers "Feather Micro Coil" microphone (N.B. they describe it as a "pickup"). https://www.myerspickups.com/products/the-feather-mirco-coil-pickup-system I don't believe you can buy this in Europe (I bought it from USA). The micro coil and the included assortment of clips, etc, give a lot of positioning options. Includes: mic + gooseneck + micro coil cable preamp module + clip spare batteries two types of clip suction cup cork + rubber pads soft case instructions cable tidy £100 posted within the UK.
