1. You need to speak with 'northwing' ........ http://basschat.co.uk/topic/218360-aguilar-ag500sc-w-chocolate-thunder-head-case/
2. Hi all, will a preamp help reduce/cancel single coil hum ? I also use neck/bridge together 'out of phase' which causes hum, can this be cured ? Also do any preamps have HPF like thumpinator ? Any advice appreciated Si
3. I do like the idea of an expression pedal on the B3 ... leaning towards that one at the mo. Has anyone tried the B3 for recording ? ESP re monitoring (see OP) Thanks for your responses guys & keep em coming
4. Hi all, Looking for some advise on multi effects, I've recently bought/sold a few normal single stomp boxes but think a 'multi' type might be more what I'm after. I certainly don't want a big type board & will probably on use certain effects at certain moments in songs (don't mind having to change patches etc in between) anyway I narrowed it down to these four for now .... - TCE Nova System - Zoom B3 - Boss ME-20B - Line6 M5 I've had a Line6 pod hd before & was quite impressed ( on guitar) Had a few Boss pedals so know what to expect there (to some degree). Don't expect to use too many effects at once but I think having a compressor on permanently might be nice & the use of an expression/volume pedal is a definite plus. I'll be running thru my effects loop & probably get a decent clean/grind from my Tech21 Landmark 300's dual channels, so not as bothered about drive/dist options however if I'm ever without the Tech21 amp they will come in handy as I do want some grind/grit (think GK growl / Darkglass B3k) .. not sure how well any of the above can emulate that but pretty happy with Tech21 amp so far. I had a small multi Zoom pedal about 7 years ago but to be honest I thought it was really just a toy & certainly not impressed with the sound quality, is the B3 more pro ? It does appear to be the only one out of my selection that could be used direct into pa or pc. Does anyone know if audio from pc goes back via usb & then out of its trs jacks to monitors in studio setup ? Advise/opinions mucho apprecio .... cheers Si
5. APHEX BASS XCITER for sale. I'm currently going thru a period of trying pedals out but it's gonna be a bit hit & miss .... this pedal is in great condition but just not what I'm looking for. The Aphex Bass Xciter Pedal is for all types of basses with magnetic or piezo pickups, active or passive. Voicing is tailored for depth and sustain while adding life to the bite and slap tones. The Aphex Bass Xciter has great action response, speeds up attacks, and makes small bass rigs sound much bigger. Features patented Aphex Aural Exciter and Optical Big Bottom technology Designed for the electric bass Active/passive switch Lo tune, lo blend, hi tune, hi blend controls 1/4" input jack 1/4" output jack XLR DI output I'm after £55 ono (PayPal gift or bank transfer) price included postage, will consider other pedals (vol/way) as trade but might just save up for a TC Nova System ......
6. Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could help me regarding a Boss DS-1 pedal mod. I read on line that an easy mod to do was to remove two resistors which I did (can't remember which two but could open the pedal up if needed), this was to make the DS-1 more like a boost pedal ... however what I would really like is to try make this sound something a Darkglass Microtubes B3K if that's at all possible ? I know it's probably a big ask lol I want to use this for bass guitar & don't need that much distortion. Ideally I'd like a 'blend' control knob instead of 'tone' & maybe less 'gain' and hopefully not lose too much low-end esp as I play 5 string .... Is this something any of you could do ? Or could you steer me in the right direction regarding DIY ? Any help / suggestions welcome ... I know I could just buy a B3K but don't like the Boss just collecting dust ...... cheers Simon
7. Pocket amp arrived today & sounds great with guitar ..... will let you know how a bass sounds with it when I get a bit of time ..... few days later lol .... (just edited this post rather than new 'reply') Just had a practice session with headphones & mp3 player (actually my phone but same as it's got 1/8" output jack), played along to some tracks & adjusted volume on my phone to get levels as I preferred the bypass mode on the Pocket amp ... actually sounded pretty good for this purpose. Gonna try it on my amp next but think it's best suited for guitar (very impressed so far just going into front end of my little valve head, haven't tried DI yet). Wanna try a Palmer Uebertreiber next to see if that gets the right type of grit I'm after ...... anyone tried one ?
8. I'm interested mate, how many pedals with daisy chain ? Pls pm me your details, cheers Si
9. I've a Palmer pocket amp incoming ,,, for guitar but curious how it'll sound with bass

15. RG style body, loaded with DiMarzio D-sonic humbucker & Takeuchi 7 string tremolo. Body is spalted maple or beech top (1/3) & mahogany (2/3) which I've finished in tru-oil but you may wants to add some more coats. Guy I bought it off sold as a Jaden Rose but I believe this was a 'seconds' as it does have imperfections but I don't think that will affect it at all. I was planning on getting an Ibanez RG neck for this but can't afford to & don't need another 7 string either. It's got a D sonic pickup with vol control & toggle switch but not sure what that does ? Maybe parallel / series switching of perhaps coil split. No trem arm but shouldn't be hard to track one down. Neck pocket width is 68.5mm Trade wise I'm still after a Darkglass B7K, maybe a good compressor (Aguilar / EBS / MXR) cheers Simon
16.
And a few more photo's. Thanks to everybody for their responses. Now I need to clean up the mess on my workbench and take a couple of weeks rest from building, then I need to order some parts for my next build and slowly start working on that one again. This will be the next build: A four string fanned 34 to 32 inch scale SG based bass. Would anybody like to see a build diary on that one as well?
Ja zeker !
17. Bump
18. Cheers Pete .... and no to handle / feet query

20. Dunno I'll have a look
21. bump
22. RUSH indeed ! I used my 700 thru a 4 ohm barefaced 212 super T cab which actually moved / jumped backwards on my laminate floor when I cranked the amp ! It pushed that much air but that is too loud for most pubs / small venues. So it depends on what & where you're gonna use it. On talkbass there's a great thread regarding the GK growl & Rob Gallien explains how driving the power amp helps create this sound. I certainly rate the 700RB-II, cracking amp that's been around for quite a while, not too heavy & not too big, class G power amp btw. However, IMHO I would love to try the 280w 400RB-IV with my current PJB 9B cab (or decent 212) I bet that would've sounded as good if not better at the (small/medium) venues I used to play as I'd be able to crank it more to get it to 'hit the rails' ! Si ps. 700 with a single 8ohm cab might achieve the same but I haven't tried it so can't be sure, however you can then add a second 8ohm cab for more volume if required ,,, hope any of this helps mate
23. I had a MB200 as backup for my 700RB-II .... MB is the only GK class D I've tried but didn't think it was loud enough, the 500 or 800 will be but not sure about the growl. The 700 however thru BF S12T was too loud ! Got the 'GK growl' alright but had to crank it. Love it .... I actually bought both these amps after trying an 80's 400RB, that's when I found out what they were talking about .... I only sold 700 coz I was no longer in a band & needed the cash. I did bi-amp it but don't think I'd bother again as I'd go for the lesser powered RB to achieve the same awesome sound at more usable volume. It doesn't have bi-amp feature. If not powerful enough for you just get the 700 but they're loud. Only got a Tech21 Landmark 300 as it was a good deal at the time and hoping to get a similar if not the same growl from it ... would have bought a 400RB-IV if one has come along at the same time. So my recommendation would be .... get a good cab which may well cost more than the amp, maybe a 4ohm 2x12 (GK neo 212 gets good reviews) & just get a 400RB-IV ... sorted !
24. Darkglass B7K still wanted but gonna add Aguilar TLC & sfx micro thumpinator to the list of trades
