  1. I think those of us who have owned one of the previous HB bass cabs (I had a 410T) would agree they are very neutral/transparent (like a PA cab). Not bad for the price, not fantastically over engineered but fairly well built - got a few good reviews on youtube. When I bougtht mine I wanted a 500w 8ohm on a budget to go with the Orange Terror - it was ok - nothing special but ti did the job and was all I could afford at the time. These look similair build, just with tolex instead of carpet, grille cloth instead of a metal grille and metal fittings as opposed to plastic/abs.
  2. That was suggested by a friend Chris (Former Bassist for Atom Seed and Bruce Dickinsons Skunkworks). To be honest I really have drifted into five string territory and I have my XS-4 which is incredibly light if I need a 4 any time. Its just not been used since I built the FrankenSpector, and the xray results have just given me a push in the direction of selling it.
  3. Not in the slightest. Sitting down with the most awful uncomfortable nylon strung accoustic nearly put me off for life. My mum (who was a folk singer/musician in the late 60's) relenting, getting out her old steel strung accoustic and teaching me "House of the Rising Sun" did though. She never pushed me into music as she wanted me to find it on myown - I come from a family of "play by ear" people. Had a good musical education from mum though Mammas and Pappas, The Beatles, Jethro Tull, The Animals, The who, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Band, Spencer davis group, The Kinks, The Small Faces, The Rolling stones, 50's rock n roll, Glenn Miller....
  4. Having just had the results of an xray on my shoulder showing quite bad degeneration and osteoarthritis I have to part company with the heaviest and least used of my basses (I pretty much solidly play 5 strings now). I'm pretty gutted at the thought of selling it as it genuinely is a close runner for favourite of the ones I currently own. The previous owner replaced the stock Warwick "Fender high mass style" bridge with a Gotoh J510BO-4 as the original Warwick one was showing signs of tail-lift. I fitted it with Gotoh GB7 tuners (the Warwick ones didnt seem brilliant) and Hipshot GB7 Extender/detuner. (have a spare GB7 if the detuner isnt your thing) I also put a Matte black vinyl wrap with the Warwick "W" logo on the headstock as the original "Rockbass by Warwick" one looked ugly as hell - I believe the original is still under the wrap if you wanted to make it 100% "As stock". Also have the original Warwick branded bridge (complete with bend) that the previous owner included. There's barely a mark on it that I can see - It has lived in a delux Warwick Rock Bag gig bag since I bought it about 4 years ago. Soundwise its very versatile despite looking a bit pointy and gothic. **EDIT** Would consider interesting Trades, particularly a Gretsch Junior Jet II shortscale bass or Vintage VS100/Ibanez RG350 type 6 strings
  5. Its not - if you look at the pictures on the Thomann listing and the close up of the rear of the cab (Jackplate) it says 4 ohm though in fairness Thomann does list it as 8.. confusing to say the least
  6. From what I can see (looking at the 4x10 version) its basically the old 410T (one of which I just sold) but with grill cloth instead of metal, Tolex instead of Carpet and metal corners instead of plastic?
  7. In a live situation where your amp was not visible nobody but you would know whether you were using a solid state amp, hybrid, tube, or plugging directly into the soundboard. In a studio the vast majority of recording engineeers DI the bass. They would also be able to notice (along with a good mastering engineer)the difference in sound between a solid state and a tube amp on bass - however that is because they are the highest form of audiophile and their ears are their living. There will of course be a difference in speaker response etc but to the untrained ear.. and in a mix (be that live or recorded)?
  8. I never reallly did popular. I bought a Terror Bass 500 because they were popular and everyone was raving about them. It was mediocre - the EQ section may as well have just consisted of a bass fader because it did little to nothing. It could do one particular sound really well - and that was it. Much as I'd love to have an SVT 8x10 stack, I dont have the 1.5k to buy one or the desire to lug one around. Or the maintenance hassles. I did the whole Portaflex thing with a PF-500 and matching 1x15 and 2x10 wanting to go lightweight but they are unpredictable and the matching cabinets not suitable for purpose (probably the worst cabs I have owned period) Horses for courses I suppose - I stick a Ampeg Analoge Preamp in front of the LWA and it does a reasonable impression of that middy ampeg thing (better than the Orange did). And at the end of the day unless you are a seasoned Audio engineer most people cant tell what amp you are using - and what we consider a good bass tone works out to sound pretty pants when its dropped in a mix or live with a band.

  10. Somewhere between that and Hartke 4.5XL http://www.samsontech.com/hartke/products/cabinets/xl-cabinets/4.5xl/
  11. Free (yes free) to good home. Due to ongoing and increasing issues with my shoulder/neck/back in general I have had to downsize to easier to manage and lighter cabs and amp. It would be more trouble than its worth trying to sell this - not that its a bad cab, purely due to size preventing postage, value not being astronimical, and needing the space badly. Combine this with the fact I have to go down two sets of steps and in total walk about 25-30m to get to the car park... it was never a great idea. Has literally been used a couple of times. GOOD POINTS - Fairly neutral sounding with variable tweeter, pretty well built, , has speakon anf jack connections,..... oh and its free to collector. BAD POINTS - Its a full size 4x10 so fairly large (though not OVERLY heavy when compared to an Ampeg cab of similair design, however the 20kg of Warwick cab I just purchased is significantly lighter and more compact). It has been living next to my dogs bed and is carpet covered - it doesnt smell "doggy" but there will be dog hair attached to the covering (worth thinking about if you have allergies). At one point I installed LED lights in the front which are still there but dont work, and the carpet covering has lifted a bit where the control box was once glued. I'm located in tamworth and still have one good arm (wish I was joking...) so I can help you down to the car/van/whatever with it if needed.
  12. I'm pretty happy with how it sounds stock to be fair but I'll definitely look into those. I used to own a 1980 RS900 but I'd never really looked at the more modern Ibby's till I picked up my mates SR300. Even then I was and still am really happy with my Frankenspector and the Vampyre so I wasn't looking to increase the herd. But when this popped up (and at that price!!) I couldn't help myself. A lot of bass for not much money.
  13. What can £140 buy you these days? In my case a 2016 Ibanez SR305EB... Wasnt after another bass but after playing my buddys SR300EB this little gem popped up on Facebook Marketplace. Couple of minor marks on the front, was £160, then £149... when the guy was demoing it it made a load of noise as he unplugged it so he was convinced the jack needed replacing so he knocked it down to £140. Would have been a good price at £160 IMHO. If I decide to flip it Id get my money back easily - cant pick up a Squier P Bass for £140 these days. Very happy with it.
  14. 5 string Rockbass - necks like a baseball bat. Prefer my Spector.
  15. yeh saw those Im just curious what happened to my old bass as it was such an unusual finish - and very well done by whoever did it. I have a body sprayed up , (badly) in cadburys purple and a spare can of black gloss nitro - might attempt a burst myself at some point.
  16. It might be like the Ampeg PF-500's - they were dropping dead left right and center but the one I had never had an issue - wonders of Chinese manufacturing sadly - even heard of someone ordering the celestion version of one of the lightweight Warwick cabs which had been fitted with fake celestions. Big draw for me on this is the ability to use two channels at the same time with different EQ settings. MUCH prefer the EQ on this to my Orange Terror Bass - it could do one thing (ok it did it very well..IF you wanted a particular bass tone) but the EQ controls were pretty pointless and left little room for shaping and variation.
  17. Is the bass active or passive? If it has a preamp but the pickup itself is passive it might be an idea to just jerryrig a small circuit (volume/tone/output) to see if the issue is the pickup or the wiring inside the bass.
  18. Thinking about it, the pickup looks the same as the one that was in my old 1980 Ibanez RS900 - and I seem to recall that had a similair issue with the E and A being oddly quieter than the D and G. Never did get to the bottom of it.
  19. Bit of a long shot but could the A and D strings be twisted? Might be worth just releasing the tension on those two then retuning again?
  20. Bad picture of a picture.. looked more purple like the example above in the flesh..
  21. Probably because that isnt actually the bass (its just a triiibuuute..) - I just came across that picture on a US site of a guy that does refinnishes and the colour/burst is identical to my old bass (used to call it cadburys burst) I only have two pics of the old girl and I have no idea where they are
  22. I used to own (1990's) a P bass that I bought from the former bass player of 70's band Ginty. It was sold as a 1976 fender (though with gaining more knowledge and the internet growing I doubt all of it was if any of it). Finnish was basically this (he had it refinished in the 80's I believe) with a maple neck, matching burst headstock and a solid brass pickguard. I sold it in 2001ish. Miss it like hell. Interested to know if anyone has seen a P bass in this finish (a candy purple burst)
  23. Only had it pushing an 8 ohm 2x10 (it literally came out of the box this afternoon - plus as bloody irritating as my neighbour is Im not ready to blast her with a 1000w bass stack yet..) but running through both channels at the same time never noticed it kick in at all.. been sitting playing about with EQ for the last half an hour just using headphones , it only span up once when the head was powered on, not heard it since
