Having a bit of a clear out and have this set of 6 individual bass bridges for sale - 'economy', not ABM. Made from unspecified hard metal I bought a few years back for a project which never happened. Very good condition. Mmmm, shiney: There's also a small packet of gold screws but I don't know if these came with the bridge units or if I've just hand them hanging around. Anyway, bish, bosh, boom - now yours for a too-good-to-be-true £25 posted, guv'nor.

For Sale: The First Zoot Chaser. Hand-made by Mike Walsh (Iceni Music), and now with upgraded hardware and preamp. Bought a little under a couple of years back and sold now with heavy heart and much gnashing of teeth. However, as I'm currently band-less and I've recently had my ACG custom delivered, it's got to be 'one in, one out'. When I bought this it was still fitted out with its original chrome hardware (always thought chrome a bit boring) and East preamp. However, after plugging it in and immediately falling in love with its tone (originally accurately described as 'apes the Stingray sound, but is both punchier and more refined'), I decided it could use a bit of TLC and tarting up. Its original bridge only facilitated through-body stringing (which I'm neither here nor there about really) so I contacted Mike East who had one of his units, unfinished, still in stock., which I sent off to a metal platers in Brum who replated the base in black for me and the string saddles in gold. A new set of Gotoh tuners in black were added and I swapped out the Gotoh bar-type string retainer for a Hipshot one in gold, maintaining the 'stealth with style look'. I had an ACG filter-based pre-amp installed and added a low battery indicator too, work done by our very own Steve Soar. We decided to put in a phase reversal switch at the same time. The results were jaw dropping, in that kind of 'involuntary silly grin'-way you get when something's just right. It still retains its fundamental 'punchier and more refined Stingray'-quality but now offers an incredible range of further tones courtesy of the ACG preamp. And when you switch it into parallel mode, watch out! When I was deciding on the upgrades I had in mind a 'one stop shop' bass; the one bass you could take to any gig that would cover a multitude of different genres. I think this comes pretty close now: Specs as follows: Body: 2 piece Maple cap over 3 piece Ash back with Purpleheart accent stripe Neck: Bolt-on 1 Piece Hard Maple Neck with 24 fret Rosewood fretboard. Truss-rod adjustment at headstock end. Neck width: 41mm approx at nut; 58mm approx at 12th fret; shallow 'D' profile - very comfortable and fast (even for guys with smaller hands like myself) String spacing: 20mm approx Pickup: 1 x Seymour Duncan Basslines Musicman-style Humbucker in a mid position; series/parallel switching Preamp: ACG EQ02 filter-based preamp with passive tone. 18v power Controls: Master volume (pull up for series, down for parallel switching), Passive tone, 1 x low pass filter; 1 x high pass filter. Low Battery indicator Bridge: Proprietary Iceni music designed bridge. Specially re-plated with black base and gold saddles; Top load and string through. Tuners: Gotoh black machine heads. Gotoh gold strap buttons (with black felt pads). The (satin) varnish has a small impact mark on the upper edge of the top horn, which is too small to photograph and has been there from new apparently. No hard case but I will include a Warwick gig bag and it can be sent in a box from Thomann I've still got which offers decent protection in transit. Tracked delivery to mainland: £10. Condition is very good to excellent. Currently strung with La Bella Super Steps, Extra Light Gauge: 40-95. I am also including all the original chrome hardware - 4 x Gotoh tuners; 5 x Gotoh-style control knobs, heavy duty Iceni Zoot bridge and 1 x Gotoh string retainer (bar type). SOLD And, of course, anyone who wishes to is very welcome to come over and give it a blast. I would post sound files too but, to be honest, this technology stuff is passing me by and I’ve no idea how to. The spirit’s willing but the ‘smarts’ are weak, I’m afraid. Note: I've just found the original preamp in the loft too, and will include this in the sale. It is untested, so please be aware of that, but was working fine when it was swapped out.

I think the reason a few have suggested that one or two of the bands are pushing the definition of punk is that punk proper really only had a shelf life of about two years (76-78) before it was superseded by New Wave. Seems to me that many of the bands featured should more properly be referred to as New Wave bands. And if you didn't start out as one and your singer hadn't died of a smack overdose or something by 1978, you became a New Wave band by virtue of your longevity!
If you do eBay it, feel free to use my photos.
Thanks for that, Richard - that's very much appreciated. Now listed on ebay, folks. Happy to honour the last Basschat reduction price whilst there are no bids placed (I wouldn't want to pull the auction after that as I think it would be unfair on someone who's bid in good faith). Thanks all. -
Is that a 4 or 5 string you have ordered?
It's a 4 string. Couple more updates from Alan this week so it sounds like it's on the horizon. Starting to get very excited. I realised I might have sounded a bit churlish about the scale length before I think I was trying to suggest that there are other factors - such as neck profile, for example - that can help in minimising the effect of a longer scale length. The Yamaha had a very comfortable profile. I think my 33" ACG is going to be the best of both worlds and, I'm hoping, will be the ideal player for me.
I shall follow this with interest, there seems to be a lot of love for 33" scale basses at the moment.
I've specced a 33" scale on my ACG which is due in the next month or so, on the basis that I've only got small hands for a bass player. I do sometimes wonder what difference it's really going to make though. One of my favourite basses that has passed through my hands in recent times was a Yammie TRB1004 - that had a 35" scale and I'm not sure I ever really noticed!

Folks, I've had a couple of messages of interest in this now. I'm now going away for the week but will try and keep up with the thread as best I can. If it's not sold by the time I get back next week I'll withdraw it as I really can't go any lower on it. I'd just to reiterate too that I can post/send this bass. It will be sent out in a hard case which has seen better days but still offers excellent protection in transit. All for a mere 10 of our English £'s! Thanks for looking. -
right... what would you compare this sound to?? kinda stingray?? PM me details dude cheers
Very tight and punchy, I'd say, with a - to my ear - nice mid-range emphasis which gives it some nice 'mwhaah'. Certainly Stingray fans wouldn't be disappointed and the graphite neck lends it a very defined sound too. Defined without being clinical sounding, I guess due to the ebony fingerboard, which I think would mean it would sit nicely in the mix - though I've not gigged with it myself, I should point out. Hope that helps! If you have anything you'd like me to drop you a PM about, please just say. Cheers, Mark -
Go for it, deanbean! Are you a man or a mouse?
On a slightly less frivilous note, we're heading down to the Cotswolds in a couple of weeks time so I could probably even arrange to meet up to drop it off for you too, if you did decide to go for it. How's that for service?!
