  1. Guys, I am looking to upgrade from my Squier and wonder whether a Fender Standard MIM is a good choice? The used price range certainly fits my budget.
  2. I have been looking for a small portable stand but all the ones I have seen don't look like they give good secure support. Having been on stage with clumsy musicians (myself included) and witnessed disasters and near misses I want something secure. I ordered a stretch Velcro bicycle clip off eBay £1.77 and attached this to my cab using one of the screws for the grill. Seems to do the job for me! Ideally it would have been better on the side of the cab and if the cab was taller it would give more support.
  3. The GHS flats arrived today and a quick noodle has produced pleasant tones. The D and G sound much better. One thing though they kind of feel a little "dry/sticky" well that's the only way I can describe them. I assume with some playing in this will become less noticeable.
  4. Thanks for the replies. I have ordered GHS flats.
  5. Thanks, lovely quick replies! Next questions - what scale length for GHS if the ball end of bridge to nut is just shy of 36" and should I go heavy gauge or keep it medium?
  6. Advice please; I currently have flatwounds strung on my fender p and I am very happy with how the E/A sound but to my ears the D and especially G have too much trebly twang to them. Gauge 100/43 thomastiks with nickel core and bought them used off basschat. Could you guys recommend some flats that would sound deeper and warmer? I really don't want to spend a fortune but if I have to then I will bite the bullet! Currently playing R&B in a start up band. I am newish to bass guitar after making transition from upright!
  7. Happy Monday's (I think in Cardiff) - Shaun Ryder kept stopping the band because him and them weren't in time or even playing the same song! Probably too wrecked to care. On the pluse side Stereo Mc's were supporting and were bloody brilliant.
  8. Smooth transaction, thanks Greg.

    Pick up

I've tried several pickups and the one I went back to and stuck with was the KK bassmax. Simple to install and the easiest (for me) to get a great sound from. My bass is a strunal 50/4 > fishman plat pro. They do occasionally pop up in used condition on eBay. Good luck with your quest.
  11. As new condition and complete with owner manual. 550w @ 4ohms and 310w @ 8ohms. I am the amps only owner and ordered direct from EA USA. Should you wish to come and try this wonderful amp out I live just outside Bath/Bristol. These are currently retailing for £565 at bass direct (although they are out of stock). I might consider amp trade, please pm. Below - taken from EA site; Size, weight and power aren't the only headlines here. The Micro is a full 2 channel head with EA's Intelligent Switching preamp. You can run two separate basses with full tonal adjustments, or get two separate and switchable settings for a single bass - great for getting a 'solo' sound on the fly. 12. Steve bought my Kala - great bloke from start to finish. Cheers Steve enjoy.
  13. Thanks for replying and taking the time with all the positive info. I have my eyes firmly fixed on 'basses for sale' and look forward to a new 2nd hand bass. Regards, Paddy.
  14. Over the past few months I have been making transition from double bass and I have enjoyed this so much my DB hasn't even been out its gig bag! I bought the vintage p bass in sunburst after reading good reviews as an entry level bass. I am now considering an upgrade with a budget of £500 Is this worth doing with this budget and if 'yes' could you guys recommend the path to follow? I would like another p bass and I like the look of my vintage. My knowledge of bass guitars is pretty limited but I have found preferring flatwounds to roundwound. I am happy to buy 2nd hand as this will extend my choice within my budget.
  15. Beedster sorry but I mixed you up with another bchatter and thought you lived in Bristol!
  16. Rockabilliybass.com, thank goodness it folded as I spent an unhealthy amount of time looking at posts and buying ££££$$$$$€€€€€ worth on strings.I think some stuff from you Paul?!? Beedster are you based in Bristol? If so and you want a trip to the country (Paulton) to try out some strings before buying I have blast cults, silver slaps, few sets of whackers and obligatos favoured by Chatham County Line, I might even have some I've forgotten!!!!! Paddy.
