1. i can make you one if you want, how many channels do you need?
2. i'm sick of this perception that valve amps only do gritty tones, valve amps also do extremely hi fi sounds to just as well as solid state amps if not better, they just distort in a much more pleasant manner
3.
Carlsbro 60watt valve amp with reverb, in good working order. Mullard output valves, and nice beefy transformers. You are welcome to bring your cab to try with this amp, or you can use my Eden 2x10 or my Bag End 1 x 15 ( or even a Marshall 2 x12 if you want it for one of those Gui--ars ) Collect only from Leeds. Will.
ey up i'd be intrested in this.

5. nah i hadn't seen that the valves i'll be using wont eat batterys in 5mins and will be alot smaller ;<
6. now with my new fetish for submini valves i've found some that run with a plate voltage of around 15V and have a low enough current draw to not eat there way through batterys like theirs no tommorow. now i have a few questions i want to ask before i go into designing this, what kind EQ do people want with their basses? Would you want to be able to control the gain on the bass and get a tubey grind coming straight out of the jack and at the flick of a switch / turn of a knob go back to a clean sound? Are you opposed to using two batterys(would make them last longer due to not needed voltage doublers? thanks for any input into this! its something i've been thinking about for a bit and may be offering for sale as a DIY kit or as complete in a box / put into your bass for you.
7. get in touch with matamp, think they do an 8X10 for about £600, either that or buy a used ampeg etc.
8. what valves are you running in it?
9.
just dont get a new ampeg classic! the new ones are mass produced rubbish, the build quality is crap. they still sound amazing but if you're going for valves get something hand wired. a properly built hand wired valve amp (no circuit board rubbish!) is rugged, reliable and beautiful. apparently oasis blew up 16 brand new svt classics on their last tour!
+1 on pcbs melting and being unreliable
10.
Another thought, but are you intending to sell the current MAG combo? Since that would boost your funds up to a grand or so, which would make the rig that big sweeter and lighter.
whats the obsession with all gear having to be really light nowadays ;<
11. second hand sound city / laney / carlsbro + servicing + 4X12 or 2X15
12.
Signed. This isn't a hoax, i've read about this a few times and i've been dead against it the whole time. 70DB is avsolutely f*** all. It's not until about 85-90DB that it starts to get damaging, and bearing in mind that every 6DB, the sound is twice as loud, that's a hell of a lot louder. Personally, i think that if you go to a gig where your hearing could potentially be damaged, then it's your own responsibility to protect your ears and nobody else's. As for the link with loud music and binge drinking, well that's just bullshit, total utter f***ing bullshit. Live music has taken enough of a downturn lately (particularly in notts with one of the better venues closing), don't let the government put the final nail in the coffin people!
i drink more in sh*t bands, 70db though? i'm not sure my head and cab go that quiet?
13. sunn 300t has to much solid state trickery going on get a real valve head! i'd recomend the matamp ad200 over the orange as it actually puts out a solid 200watt RMS as apposed to about 160
14. i'd go for the small clone personally
15. i got the dual one from http://www.amp-head.com/ it works by measuring the voltage from the cathode so you read that in MV and adjust the amps bias till you get the desired bias
16. i've got one it saves alot of hastle of opening everything up and getting inside the amp to check the bias, makes checking the bias a piece of piss

sold
£500 is more than fair.... ...still high build quality... ...why did they change a great design?
to make more money ;o i'd nab this amp though is i had the money it'd be the ultimate solution to running a dirty channel ;<

my new head!

bump it's gone a little different from my initial plans
19. this thread hurts me inside ;<
20. don't know if it counts but my new head is essentially an orange preamp with a hiwatt 6XEL34 power amp
21.
As with any mass-produced "copies", there's no reason why you can't find one as good as the original if you get out and try enough of them - (received wisdom from a guitarist / pro-sound engineer acquainatce of mine when I sneered at his Squier Strat. He reckoned he'd tried at least 70 before settling on that one and with a set of replacement pickups put it on par with his US Strat).
my uncle thought my les paul copy from the 70s played better than his real thing!
22.
Not really up on USA Fender prices. Does this mean a jazz will be about £800? Can't you get a Shuker for under £700? Bet they'll still sell loads though. . . . .
unless mr shuker gets some apprentices ;o
23. good for the price
24. umph

tonebender ;>
