  1. Actually dingwall was intended to be on my list, i like the look of the ng2 specifically but i forgot to mention it. Also the strandberg is multiscale too.
  2. thanks for the input, i wasn't aware of the scale length on the vigiers, my other bass is a xylem custom with a 33'' scale and its a beaut so i wouldnt expect that to be an issue. i do however like to adjust the neck relief if required so tht is worth considering.
  3. thanks ive heard the name but not familiar with them, ill check em out now.
  4. im looking for a new 4 string bass, i currently use a cheap ibanez sr300 for my 2nd band which tune to C (thrash metal) its fine for a cheap bass but i need an upgrade, i immediately ruled out anything p or jazz styling as i cant stand em, i want modern/erganomic lightweight neck stability is a priority so carbon fiber necks are a bonus, i like to see what im doing so luminlay or even better leds are also a bonus. my first thought was to wait for the upcoming Strandberg boden bass as it seems to tick all the right boxes (and i love my strandberg OS6, the endurneck is the future) however now i have set my budget it would be silly not to see what my other options are i like the look of the Vigier Passion, played one years ago briefly and it left a lasting impression (although im not super keen on high gloss finishes) a status s2 classic bolt on with wrap around leds comes in (almost - close enough) within budget, which i did not expect and finally i just spotted the acg Krell, which looks the business, ive played an acg before but not the krell and i loved the feel, plus i get lots of custom options. is there anything else out there to consider? or any opinions on any of the above basses? im looking at around £2500 max budget and would prefer to buy new. Thanks.
  5. cant believe this is still here at that price, if it was nearer me i would snap it up
  6. 35"-33.5" scale length confirmed too. Hopefully more info soon. I generally play 4 strings but this 5 might tempt me.
  7. First pic of the five string. They do like to tease.
  8. With the right power driver i tested it with no hum running off a 9v battery, this was my first concern so i did a little experimenting before i tried it. Some work, some are noisy but im sure its doable with careful choices. Still i would probably avoid using on a bass with single coils. Just trying out options really.
  9. Ive done a little experimenting with el (electroluminescent) wire as an alternative to leds which could turn out great with a little care This is very rough just to test the theory on an old neck. the idea was to route a channel the length of the neck, insert the el wire then fill leaving clear sections where the fret markers were and have a 2nd colour going across at 12 and 24 with the side section that you see there filled in so that just the line makers remain. The egg custards are the key of course to nailing it, that is why it looks a bit crap, i only ate one.
  10. i think it s a trick of the camera, angles and the binding making it look more that it is and all that, its not a profound as it looks, its super comfortable to play though. amazing quality and unique bass
  11. i personally cant stand over large headstocks, i think they should be functional but not excessive in size, i particularly like the xylem headstocks, one of the reasons i went for one. there are a hell of a lot of basses i wouldn't consider due to headstock design although playability comes before aesthetics its important to find a balance.
  12. the carvin v3m is a superb amp and one of the most versatile having a separate eq for each of the 3 channels and an addition global lead boost. tonally it will do everything you want comfortably and a/b next to similar equivalents (Hughes and kettner, laney, marshall) it was a clear winner in my opinion with a smoother tone and plenty of body plus it lights up with a choice of blue or red depending on your mood lol
  13. wish i was closer,, i would happily snap this up, good luck with the sale.
  14. yeah i would definitely get a new one, pmt have them in stock at 109, everywhere else that i can see is out of stock.
  15. yeah i saw that, might be worth a pop i reckon, cheers :^)
  16. i thought this might be the case but i'm totally out of touch with the new effects on the market at the moment, hence the post i might try the digitech drop though as its a low cost option if it doesn't work out.
  17. i cant fault the m900, i use it with a marshall dbs 4x12 for a thrash band and with a barefaced super 12 t for a melodic metal band, i use very different sounds for both and it nails them both equally well i love to play a bit of reggae at home too and have no problem getting a great sound for this with the clean channel that dirt channel just barely on as a gain boost is superb too, just brings the bass parts alive and to the front of the mix a little more in a live situation
  18. at the moment i use a cheap ibanez for my 2nd band, which is ok (just) tuned to c sharp my main bass is a wonderful xylem custom, the quality difference is a massive leap, i have a couple of vintage 80s basses which i bought to possibly replace the ibanez but they are heavy and still a huge leap in terms of sound and playability from the xylem ive currently got my eye on something a bit better quality but i kinda want to use that for a couple of particular songs tuned in my main band to E for ergonomics really, i was just hoping i might be able to reduce down to 2 basses total and use just the new one for both bands and get rid of everything else. tone wise the down tuned bass is secondary as its simpler stuff and less prominent in the mix. just looking for options really.
  19. does anyone know if any of the modern multi fx units will handle this job, line 6 helix/hx, fractal fx8 etc?
  20. thanks ill have a look into it, i know 3 steps might be a push but if it works i could always tune to e flat and go 2 down and 1 up as an alternative option. just realised it doesnt go up hahaha
  21. i play in 2 bands one in standard tuning and one 3 semitones down to c sharp, is there anything out there either in a single pedal or a multieffects that will transpose reliably without the need to have multiple basses in different tunings? doesn't need to be cheap just has to get the job done, any ideas? ideally looking to keep basses in standard tuning and pitch down 3 steps. any input would be appreciated thanks.
  22. thats how i felt about my boden os6 but the erganomics and sound won me over, i like the looks now too i guess they grew on me over time that neck profile has really improved my guitar playing though and has pretty much eliminated fretting hand fatigue, hopefully the bass will nail it in the same way, time will tell.
  23. Just found out these are now equipped with a darkglass tone capsule and pickups confirmed as nordstrands, i want one more now haha. No surprise but a 5 string model is also confirmed. Gotta keep an eye out for any shows in the uk for the opportunity to give one a quick play. The big question for me is price now.
