I play the high bit an octave down. Works just as well.
Just don’t try Mr Big😳

I think for singers, a lot has to do with retaining match fitness. If you’ve never stopped performing you’re more likely to have retained your vocal abilities.

Unless you play originals, we are all in the nostalgia business!

Had a great gig at the Chadwell Arms in Essex last night. Had the option of playing their hall or the pub and we opted for the pub as it was more intimate and the crowd was enthusiastic but small. Totally the right decision, felt like a proper pub gig with the punters just a couple of feet away. We went down a storm and the landlord wants us back 3-4 times in 2024. Our first full length set (90 mins) and were asked for an encore. Am still buzzing this morning!
Do tell your band name and style of music - rig too, if you like!

The Sound of Philadelphia - a song by MFSB which is open to some pretty dodgy misinterpretation! (Mother Father Sister Brother is the official version).
Stop shoe-ing off!😁

A cockney version of TSOP? 😏
The drummer of my first band said it all the time…

Sometimes the out-takes say it better than the in-focus photos!
A typical Saturday night at a Dorset glamping site for Otis Jay Blues Band. Worried the rugby would restrict attendance, but thankfully no such problems. Threw in three pub standards we hadn’t even played together in practice to keep the atmosphere going.
Used ‘Sonic’, my MIJ Jazz, whose pickups don’t drive the Elf/Barefaced One10 combo as hard as the Flea. Will revert next time or bring the second speaker.

Take That doing a Byrd's/CSNY pastiche on Later. FMOB!
FMOB?! Takes me back to the 70s, if not the 60s Mike😂

Will definitely be watching this. For me, and many others I'm guessing, Stax was real sound of soul whereas 60s Motown was more pop sung by black singers
Maybe that’s part of it, but both were fantastic in their own way.

This was Man’s homage to Madonna…

No band on Maddona's current tour. It's obviously not a budget issue, and she has toured with a band before.
Is this going to set a precedent?
I’m assuming Maddona is a Madonna tribute act?😂

Decided I'm going to actively look for gigging work again, if anyone will have me at my advanced age.
To that end, and because I just happen to have the wherewithal at the moment, I've ordered a Squier Sonic Bass in Cali Blue, two sets of Fender flats (the real Fender needs new strings!), a decent Speakon cable, and... a second Barefaced One10 with cover!
So, have a small, light, versatile rig that won't endanger all the metalwork in my back. Still only using the Elf, but it will give me the option of a 500W amp should I need it. Also means I can put the entire rig in a Smart Car, with room to spare. Not that I have something that small...
I know it's not quite Christmas yet, but it feels a bit like it.
Yay!
The selfsame rig as me, though I suspect you use another amp to get 500w…
Thought of you the other night when I saw this band in Washington state. The bass could look familiar!
All the best Den.

You're lucky you've got sides on it!
I've also done gigs with 2 small marquees pushed together. That meant the rain ran through the join and on to the drum kit!
Happened to me too!
Amazing how upset drummers get. It’s not as if they’re plugged into the mains…😂

Been around a while and feedback thread long overdue.
Our bass sale transaction was painless, Sam travelled to view and paid on the spot - could not have gone better.
Recommended unreservedly!

I formed a blues band nearly 2 years ago with the intention of ensuring I play maybe 18 gigs a year for the next few years. That is the minimum that will keep me motivated, practising and keeping my core basses.
I am nearly 68 and know my present good health won’t last indefinitely. The recent passing of my great pals @bumnote and @yorks5stringer has reinforced my determination to play till I drop.
Like many I know, my career has been a ‘doughnut’, with parental years the hole in the middle. So I intend to enjoy every last bite!

Looking forward to rehearsal on Tuesday. 3 newbies to try out. Inside (by Stiltskin), Slither (Velvet Revolver) and Higher (Creed). With travelling gigs next Friday and Saturday in Southampton and Bournemouth (yes, we’re calling those two dates a tour 😀)
Where in those towns exactly?
