1.
If I was in this band and read your post, I would be a little concerned. When you join a band it's generally the case that you will be expected to fit in with them, and not them with you. Does this band know about your nifty pedal work? Is that why they've asked you? If no, then I'd back off with the pedals or you'll probably find your time with the band short lived.
+1 to this, although putting forward a few ideas once established isn't such a bad idea.
2. Seeing as I don't drive, getting home usually involves getting a taxi while to trying to explain what kind of music I play to the taxi driver who is trying to make small talk. These days I have just given up trying to explain and just say "heavy metal".
3. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Shine-Bass-Guitar-MusicMan-Copy-/260951338887?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item3cc1e96f87 What do you guys make of this? Never really heard of shine basses before.
4. I still have my first bass, an encore p bass copy. The action was way too high and it didnt sound particularly good but it was a start. Its covered in stickers and the input jack needs fixing so its not really playable.
5. The one with the most sharp points as it can be used as self defence during those more hostile gigs. But on a serious note I am definitely in the camp of it has to look reasonably nice before I even try it. I am not too fussed on colour as long as its not bright pink. When I first started I tended to try basses that were used by my favourite artists, not the exact bass but the same brand. Thats how I ended up with an Ibanez as Korn was my favourite band at that time.
6.
WELL DONE MATE! BassChatters rule! You must be feeling prreeeeettyyyy good!
Thanks mate, yeah I am feeling damn good at the moment Although I didn't get much sleep as the adrenaline was still going when I got back at 11pm.
Excellent news man! What's the name of the band? A member of my band stays in the Toon for uni, so I can probably get him in touch to sort some gigs together when you're ready (Y) Happy for ya dude
Thanks dude, the band is called Hellion Rising. Any help would be appreciated but I think for the time being we are going to set our sights on getting all the material down. I just can't wait till next monday now for another good jam.
7. Thanks guys
Oooh, well done mate! I have an audition for a band on saturday, hope it goes as well as yours did! Nice one! Truckstop
I am sure you will do great, but I can only re-iterate the advice given here. The one thing they said to me was that it was great how there was no awkward silences and that we all had a laugh. So just relax and be friendly
8. Well have had some including: "Sorry I can't make it I have no money until the end of the month" on the day of rehearsel "Oh yeah by the way I cant make it tonight as I have a gig" It was the drummer of course
9. Well I am pleased to say that I am now in a kick ass groove metal band I got there and it turned out that they were auditioning a drummer at the same point. This really helped me as not only did it make it easier to jam with a live drummer but also he was very talented. We ran through 3 or 4 songs and it all just felt natural, like we had been playing for ages. After those songs I was offered the place there and then. Great bunch of guys, had a good laugh too which always helps. Turns out the other bassist couldnt make last night Thanks for all the advice guys and I will post up some links to the bands soundcloud later on tonight as they have some tracks recorded.
10.
Good luck! I had a jam with a metal band yesterday, and today I'm nearly deaf in my right ear. Remember to take your plugs! It was very, very stupid of me to forget mine! I SAID, IT WAS VERY... you get the point.
Yeah I have already got them in my gig bag, ready to go. I learnt the hard way a little while back. Thanks for words of support guys, I will let you know how it goes.
11. So I have an audition tonight for a local groove metal band and I am a mixture of excited and nervous. The bands sound is like Pantera + down + crowbar had a baby. This is only my second real audition for a band as most of the bands I have been in the past have been through friends. I have learnt the material over the past week and am pretty confident I can play the stuff. There is me and one other guy so there is an element of competition. I really hope I get it as it is the kind of band I have been looking to join for years. Sorry for the random topic but it kind of helps me to write it down.
12.
This one happened before I finally passed my driving test 8 years ago and I used to use the train to get from Cardiff to a rehearsal studio in Newport... "I have to get to Swindon. I left my bass on the train!" (I was very keen to get it back asap. That particular bass was an Overwater Progress III!)
Did you get it back?
13. In the film "Scott Pilgrim vs the world", the bass battle.
14. Sorry to hear you are selling such a nice amp Andy but sounds like its going towards a good cause. Have a bump on me. The person who buys this is getting a great deal.
15. Welcome to the forums, am from gateshead myself. Rush is about as prog as I get
16. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXygVlgPkn0 I agree with one of the top rated comments. Who needs laxatives.
17. I just bought a EHX small clone from Chris and it was a very smooth transaction. Paid for the item and it was posted the very next day (and I paid in the evening). Would highly recommend him and if he is selling anything else that catches my eye in future I wont hesitate to deal with him again.
18. Sounding nice dude! Up my street as I like a bit of arch enemy, at the gates and amon amarth. "The divine misanthropy" reminds of some children of bodom songs (the older stuff). Keep up the good work. Can't help some self promotion while here: Terminal Psychosis - Look at me (no bassist?? Skulking in the shadows ) We should have some songs up on Myspace soon as we are putting the finishing touches to them: http://www.myspace.com/terminalpsychosisuk
19. Why oh why are you so far away Very far away bump
20.
Hello Bought a Danelectro Fab Chorus off shaundixon666 last week. Great price, sent quickly, packaged well, good communication, even included a battery so I could get stomping straight away. Can't want more than that! Nice one. Jim D
Thanks for your kind words Jim and thanks for starting a thread for me. It was a pleasure dealing with you too.
21. Fab chorus sold, only the Weeping demon left. I am open to sensible offers for the funky wah.
22.
Not too clever for gigs though!
Na but does the job for rehearsals, anyway sorry for hijacking the thread
