1. It has been said that my plywood Hondo II precision copy, made fretless and covered in wrapping paper (with a sliced up pickguard) by me is very ugly. Here is a polaroid of it. fretless bass by Jim Davies, on Flickr
2. I think it'd be an ace bass (if you were a lefty).
3. Hello I'll be strapping on my megatar at the end of the month as Deep Grass, playing as part of Bring Out Your Dead III in Moseley, Birmingham on 24th November. Click on the poster below for more details! I played at the same night last month - there are some nice pics to see if you follow this link http://www.firstfold...011/11/boyd-ii/
4. Hi Mate That sounds interesting. I've not seen a rack bag before - do they have a stiff frame to screw the rack units into? Sadly I'm down in Oxon so nowhere near Darwen and can't take you up on the kind offer of the bag. Jim
5. Hello there Am doing some occasional gigs which need me to transport two 19" multi FX (plus stompboxes, mixer, leads etc). The rack units are old Zoom models which are really shallow - they're 1U high, but only about 3" deep front-to-back. So a nice ABS/aluminium rack box like the one in the marketplace currently would be great, but mostly overkill as all that front-to-back space would be unused. Anyone got any experience of anything like this, and any solutions they've encountered? I'd really like to find something like those camera briefcases that are foam-lined, as I need to use a few stompboxes and a small mixer too. I already own one of the briefcases but it's just about 1/2" too narrow to take the 19" gear. Similarly I recently got a nice ABS toolbox from Wickes - would have done the job great, but it's just too narrow to take two rack units. So basically I'm looking for a light, hackable rack solution! Any ideas? Jim D
6. I'm currently playing a Dean Evo XM which is cheap as chips and a modern-ish design - looks like a LP but has up to date pickups, bolt on maple neck etc. I found it to be great for the price (got it used from Tazza1 on here); you can see a clip of it being used onstage here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lP2h9B2Vwcc JimD
7. Listened to "Holding Back the Rain". Digging that stuff man. You sound like you all play together well.
8. Hiya Bit of an odd time to post this - should have done it a LOT earlier because basically the band I've been in for the last two years, Small Machine, have just (amicably) split; we played our final (40th) gig on Saturday night as our singer is off to live in the far east for a while (English teacher), and our drummer has to sell his car (so no more travel to rehearsals). Anyway, the other night we got quite a nice video done at the 12 Bar so I'm posting it here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lP2h9B2Vwcc ...largely as it shows off my Dean Evo XM quite nicely, even if it does also show off my "moobs" (and random technique) quite well too...(!) I got the Dean off a fellow BC'er, Tezza, as I suffer from tennis elbow in the left arm, and the short scale has made a real difference. The Dean was going through the house amp, an Ashdown if I recall correctly, and thence the PA. The stage is kind of small so our singer had to stand in the audience. We'd only just got there after getting lost in central London and we just loaded in and went straight onstage, so we were all quite hot and bothered. But it was a great gig. If you like our stuff we did record an EP which is on iTunes, Amazon, etc. There are full versions of the three tracks on YouTube anyway on our channel and if you really want a copy in physical form I have a very small number to sell at £3 each! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COBC64qZdLk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5j_0kaBQvE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zBCYOoffkI I used a Westone Superheadless for the recordings, going through a Peavey Mark III into two fender pro cabinets, a 2x10 and a 1x15 (also bought from BC'er Bassmanady). The 1x15 was mic'ed up - no DI! Hope those that like this...like it! Jim D
9.
That's a great album. But is it Meshell on the first track? There are a couple of guys(including David Dyson) credited, but it doesn't say on which tracks.
Having bought the "Absolute" compilation today, even though I've got just about every track on it apart from the new ones, I can confirm that Me Shell is credited with the bass on "Umm" and "Die Alone". David Dyson is credited for "Brushed With Oil, Dusted With Powder" and David Gamson is credited on "Tinseltown To The Boogiedown". I have a half-baked plan to try my hand at some of the basslines from "Cupid and Psyche '85" - they're mostly synth ones, but might prove to be one hell of a workout ("Absolute" in particular).

Hand size...

18cm, always felt I have quite small hands for a chap. Much prefer narrower necks for string spacing, so jazz rather than precision. Now playing short scale too and appreciating some of the smaller stretches!
11.
Nice bass!
I have to say, it is a LOVELY bass. Currently retired as I am having a spot of tennis elbow trouble in my left (fretting) arm and have gone short scale (Dean Evo XM) in the hope that I don't have to give up altogether. But that Superheadless, lovely through neck, MASS, sustain, yet compact and just hangs where you want it, and I paid £150 for it!
12.
My new baby - A Super Headless As a point of interest, my pick up covers do not have the logo on them - are they meant to? It's a 1988 version. Cheers!
What excellent taste you have - superheadless and a dotty blue theme. Here's my contribution to the same thing. Your logos may be gone due to wear and tear? Mine are jazz types so I can't advise on your version.
