  1. You lasted an hour and a half longer than I would have done.
  2. Jameson always gets all of the plaudits but Babbitt was just as good in my opinion. Absolute monster player.
  3. I've been in the same band now for 10 years. We've recently started doing a few songs that I've suggested. The general consensus is 'Why weren't we doing these years ago?' The answer is quite simple really; 'We could have been if anyone thought for 1 minute that my opinion might be valid. Instead, we've wasted years churning out the same sort of generic pub rock covers that every band from here to Land's End has been doing. It's a proper slog being a bass player who would like to be heard once in a while.
  4. This is an absolutely killer cab for peanuts. Tech stuff seems to go completely under the radar but it's fantastic gear with build quality to match just about anything. Staggered that nobody has snapped this up.
  5. Genzler Magellan with quality cabs (Vanderklay, Berg, Barefaced etc).
  6. What a fabulous interview with the consummate professional bass player. Love his style in both music and life. Thankyou so much.
  7. I know his music and have heard loads of it but it doesn't really interest me. Other people rave about it but it doesn't float my boat. He's been a prolific writer and is often hailed as a genius but I don't get it or understand what the fuss is about. He must be overrated. I'm not talking about Paul McCartney. I'm talking about Mozart.
  8. Yeah, but rumour has it that you're now world class!
  9. I'm not a Beatles or McCartney fan particularly but I fail to see how you can overrate PMs contribution to music and bass playing. He was one of the very first to push melodic bass lines to the forefront and had an gigantic effect on whatever came afterwards. He was way ahead of his time and put electric bass playing in the spotlight when it had previously been no more than a backing instrument.

    Compressors

Best compressor I've had; TC Nova Dynamics. Best for limiting; Keeley Bassist. Simplest and best of both worlds with tiny footprint; Spectracomp.
  11. Obligatory mention for Fender Rumble.
  12. OP said she couldn't lug anything big around and that they're not a loud band. Rumble 100 would seem to be on the money to me.
  13. I'd suggest a Fender Rumble 100 watt combo. Think there's a couple in the For Sale section. Sound fab and are really light. I don't think you'll do better for around £180 and would seem to fit very well with what you describe.
  14. I'm thinking of 'relicing' my car before I sell it. It's immaculate now but I could go round it with a hammer and bash it around a bit, scuff up the paint and put a few tasty gouges in it, rip up the interior a bit, crack the windscreen and wind the mileage up by 150,000. All I need is some mug punter musician to rock up and buy it.
  15. I'd use a Y cable to both amps. You could do what you like with input/gain levels then.
  16. Leon Russell wrote some crackers (Delta Lady, This Masquerade, Hummingbird, Song For You etc) that did well for other people. I personally prefer his own versions although I understand how people would like the covers. Conversely, I struggle to listen to Bob Dylan but love so many of his songs that others have covered.
  17. Would have loved to have seen Garibaldi and Bobby Vega laying it down.
  18. I've had a good run but I've fallen off the wagon. Had a shocking year financially so it wasn't a problem to curtail the spending but I need a phaser so I've splashed out a massive £16 on a Joyo Vintage Phaser off ebay.
  19. I had one of these and there was apparently a manufactureing issue where there was an earth wire that was prone to coming loose which took out the output section. I had mine repaired for around £100 but it's worth checking and improving the earth to stop it happening again. Lovely amp by the way.
  20. I did have to chop a bit out under my pedal board to fit the ISO4 underneath it and have access to all the uotlets. Works a treat though.
  21. I found that the relative cheapness of these cabs was more than compensated fro by trips to the osteopath.
  22. What works at home generally doesn't work in a live mix. You'd probably find that the Aquilar cuts through better in a live mix and the Ashdown gives you the sound you like at home. Horses for courses.
  23. Your amp will have a minimum load. It's most probably 4 Ohm in which case you'll fry it if you try to run 2x 4 Ohm cabs. Running at half power makes no difference and you'll still fry it. Don't do it.
  24. Anthony Jackson did some great basslines for Donald Fagan as well. Ruby Baby is a great version of an old classic.
