Surely he'snot going to get the BIn price for this? Or am I out of date with my idea of prices for these? You could get this one from the States for less!
I'm currently learning Oh What A Night by The Four Seasons (don't ask why!). I've managed to work out the majority of the song, but can't get my head around the tricky (for me anyway) little run that happens way up the neck at around the 1.56 mark. Any help would be much appreciated as it's driving me mad. Cheers. JPS
This video has it pretty clear.

Does anyone know where I can get hold of a transcription for this? Most of it I'm fine with but some of the chorus is a bit noodly..... Thanks!

Is there a transcription of this bassline anywhere? The chorus is a little tricky.........
If there is one thing that I have learned after gigging for 30 years, its that there are thousands of delusional musicians who have absolutely no idea that they are terrible. If it sounds good to them, it most certainly isn't. There are also plenty of musicians who think that a blues scale covers everything which it doesn't. If it sounds good, it may be but please don't rely on it unless you are absolutely sure of your ground.
I wish you'd told me this when I started playing bass! Would've saved me a few years of being Sh*t before I started learning the rules!

'70 - 73 Jazz? I'm almost convinced...

What 'charity work' did it do? Going round to poor bass player's houses so they can have a play???? -
Why can't we just have a Bass Player World Cup? Invite every bass player in the world, pitch them against each in a series of comps and then the eventual winner can be undisputed. Will save us having these discussions no?

I wouldn't necessarily say that covers are easier than originals, I find originals easier because I can play what I want and can't be "wrong" - although I do get more nervous playing original material, because it seems to matter more (to me).
I partially agree but there IS always good music out there, you just need to look a little harder for it, and approach it with an open mind. There is still talent out there.
+1 Totally agree!
What's your source on that?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/10201932 The top 2 spaces are occuppied by The Beatles. I'm not rubbishing Ken in particular, I just don't like the myth that music was great at one time and it's not now. If that was the case then there would be no point playing anymore - just listen to old records.
Even if you did list the Monkees, The Osmonds, The Jackson 5 or others, the writing of the songs was done by some of the absolute best. Now it seems like little to no effort is being made. Just look at the top 10 this week.
You need to look past the top 10 then - The second biggest selling artist in the UK of the 1960's was Ken Dodd - quality songwriting?????
Miles Davis, The Beatles, Janis Joplin, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, The Byrds, Jimi Hendrix, Genesis, James Brown, Stevie Wonder. Lady Gaga, The Killers, Tiny Tempah, Pixie Lott, Rihanna, Justin Beiber, Taylor Swift, David Guetta, the cast of Glee. The consumer has got lazy and considerably more people are willing to put their faith in some television based competition like X-Factor for their musical pleasure as opposed to actively seeking out new music, that's what's changed. Not that they have much choice in the matter anyway.
You could easily make the opposite point by listing the manufactured bands from the 60's and 70's (and even previous to that) and the great bands of today - and when I've got 5 minutes - I will! Older generations have always thought that the music of their youth was more relevant, mainly because it reminds them of their youth. There are more people playing instruments and therefore more bands now than at any time since the 60's, and I suspect that there's even more now than then. A greater percentage are also writing original music compared to then because recording it is so accessible nowadays. True there is lazy, formulaic pap around, but there always was!

I thought this was okay....Then I watched his version of "Coffee Shop" - WOAHHHHHHH MAMMA!

Bassists who don't play on their bands records?
chaypup replied to MacDaddy's topic in General Discussion
Not a bassist but - I was told by a Beach Boys techie that Mike Love's son's amp only went through his monitor and not to the audience 'cos he was so awful but nobody ever told him. N.B to lawyers - ALLEGEDLY ALLEGEDLY ALLEGEDLY!!!! -
Where's the evidence that music is dying? As far as I can see, there are new genres springing up weekly, more people are in bands, musical instrument sales are way up and there is almost unlimited choice in listening to music. Where I live, I have a choice of at least 5 or 6 live acts every night within a very short distance. Music is thriving!
