Gigged it last night with just my one by fifteen and it sounded good so will try it next weekend with full rig before deciding if I need to upgrade. Best £70 I have ever spent, it plays like a dream.

So the Geddy Lee is not a USA built model then ??
-
Bloody Hell !!!! Strat sold for over £600 only to get an email from ebay saying they had to withdraw it as their was a problem with the purchaser !! I was gutted as I wanted to buy my Jazz Bass this week but the good news is that it is now back up to £400 so hopefully just have to be patient.

Fingers suffering from RSI and now need laptop to have voice recognition !!

Strats now at £410 so looking good !!

I feel I have to register a complaint to the fine ladies and gentleman of this website forum. Until I recently joined I was more than happy with my Yamaha TRB that had been my main bass ( just have a cheap 5 string spare for gigs ) for over 6 years. I also have a Fender USA Strat that has sat happily virtually unused in my wardrobe for the last twelve years and as a little family we were happy. UNTIL NOW !!! I now spend half my life on this forum and the other on Ebay looking for bargain Precision's, Jazz's, Geddy Lee's, uprated pickup's, SX's ( never even heard of them three months ago ) The Strat ends tonight on Ebay ( currently £331 but more would good ) to try to feed this GAS frenzy Where will it all end ?? Not sure but one thing it has done has rejuvenated my playing and enthusiasm for improving as a player. Keep up the good work Regards Tony

Getting close to a decision on a decent Jazz Bass and slightly tempted in to a used Geddy Lee model. Any thoughts about them etc ?? I must admit before I checked I thought that they might be more to purchase new but they are going for just over £600 at most places, what should I pay used ?? ( depending on condition etc ) Many thanks and apologies for asking so many questions over the last few days but I need to spend the money from the sale of my strat quickly or it will just get wasted on things like food and clothing etc ( I know you will all understand ) Tony

Just been on the Wizard website looking round this forum and getting tempted in to a Thumper for £50 !!

Bought my cheap precision and now getting close to buying a decent Jazz. My USA strat on ebay finishes tonight so it will be dependant on that as to what Jazz I get. It is currently on £331 but I hope it will go for more in a late bidding frenzy !!! Thanks for all the info and advice Tony

Thanks for the advice. I have just been looking at the pickups you recommended and various others and I was amazed at what is out their as I have always bought a guitar or bass and left it as standard. We have a gig tonight so I will try the bass with my full rig and see what it sounds like as I am also on the verge of buying a MIJ, MIA Jazz Bass ( selling my strat on ebay to fund all this gear ) so I may just leave the precision as a low level practice bass for around the house. Regards Tony

It is only going to be for occasional practice/spare for gigs etc so I do not want to spend daft money on an upgrade but I am sure if I just upgraded the pickups I would be able to hear a worthwhile difference. What do you think ?? and more to the point what would you recommend ?? Many thanks Tony

Yes if it sounds as nice as it looks I will give it a live run out on Sunday night at our next gig.

Just picked this up on ebay for £70 to use around the house when I get half an hour free and think I got a decent bargain What do you think ?? Hi Andy Welcome to the site. I am also quite new to it but find myself logging on most nights as it is full of bass info. I also visit the Rock of the North comments page on a regular basis and I am pretty sure i have heard the name of your band being mentioned ( all good lol ) will try to get to a gig to see you over the next month or two. Regards Tony

Just put a bid in but still not sure what the reserve is but certainly going to watch it and see how far it goes....you never know I might just be tempted if my USA Strat sells fro a sensible price

Hi I have just posted this link on ebay ( selling my mint USA strat to fund a Jazz or Precision ) I know it is well of the mark from a quality accoustic but does it tempt you at all ?? Probably not but thought is would be worth a try so have a look and let me know what you think Regards Tony http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Stratocaster-...1QQcmdZViewItem

Hi, I would have liked to have come over but we are playing the same night at the Horseshoe Bar in Huddersfield Tony
-
Cross Keys at Morley near Leeds Great gig, great audience, more bookings for later this year and two confirmation functions on the night !! All in all an excellent night I would say Tony
-
I have only ever played gigs with fingers and recently joined a band that play Radar Love, Whole Lotta Love and a couple of others that sound best with a plectrum so I am having to learn the other way. Only time I play with a pleccy is Whiskey in the Jar at jam nights Were all different and that's what makes it sound good Tony

Black is the new sunburst !!
-
Thank you, that gives me an excellent start to narrowing down my search ( I have just clicked what MIA and MIJ etc means ) Like most people I like a bargain but in general I am happy to pay decent money for a decent product but there just seems to be a huge discrepancy between the different models Spotted a lovely looking Geddy Lee on ebay that is tempting me at £375 but with two more days it will probably zoom up more Tony

I joined another band recently and have convinced myself that the right bass for the style of music and profile of the band would be a Jazz Bass (preferably in black !!) Good choice I am sure you will agree but up to now I have managed to avoid GAS ( bought my Yamaha TRB about 6 years and love it to bits ) so I am not really aware just what is a good price and what ( in theory ) is better than the previous etc I am looking to purchase either from this site or ebay etc and I am aware that if it looks too good to be true it probably will be so I just want a guideline as to what I should expect to pay for each model and what the hierarchy level is ie is a Fender Mexican better than a Squier etc I know that this is not an easy answer but I have faith in you all lol Many thanks Tony

That looks a few notches up from the gigs we usually do but certainly something to aspire to as it looks superb. Hope it goes well for you. Tony

There is no bassline in my head.
tonybassplayer replied to Bass_Junkie's topic in Theory and Technique
Most of the time I put a drum loop on through Garageband on my apple laptop and a suitable bassline seems to come in to my fingers ( I don't think about it too much I just play it ) I then go on to put guitars on and then a vocal. By contrast to this quite often I get a "first line of the vocal" in my head and then I come up with a riff that seems to suit the words and phrases ( this seems to work a lot more when I am doing something new ie visiting another country etc ) The problem with this is getting it recorded before I forget it. Just shows how different we all are Tony
