1. My new baby. Does the trick. Or two. Or dozen. In fact, it's the most versatile instrument I've ever had. I thought it'll do the "heavy" stuff, but it's very bluesy and funky as well. Totally love it! P.S. The guitars on the wall aren't mine. The photo was taken by previous owner.
2.
a thing of beauty
Hey, that's my text!
3. Lil' update. Now with more low-end + vintage-ness powered by Sunn SB160.
4. Re-start playing or sell it to me - both decisions would be wise!
5.
I will be as I am waiting on a replacement for it which should be here next week. I'll try that out first and see how I get on before considering routing the body. I'll let you know when I get it
Cool, I asked, cause I have one SCPB-3 already and I wish to HEAVILY modify old Jolana Iris Bass, thus two pickups would do cool job replacing the old, faulty PU's. Waiting for info!
6. If so, interested in selling the SCPB-3 pickup maybe?
7. I have 93 custom P-bass and she's treated like a tool, because she's a tool... but it's a tool I love. She's scratched, she has many marks on her, but still she's dear to me. What I wrote was a bit ironic. I really wouldn't treat the bass like a relic unless it was bought precisely to be a relic (eg. very rare and well preserved bass or one used by someone great)
8.
Just to keep it on topic, my baby taken this morning..........
Damn, that's a beauty!
9. I wish I could see it, cause I like "ain't flawless, but mine" basses
10.
(...) On your example though it looks really badly put together, like someone swapped the neck, or bridge, and wasnt too careful. Yours has a body finish i havent seen on a Fender, and non-Fender pickups, so maybe itsa bitsa, may explain your problem? Never seen it before personally, perhaps i've been lucky, although if i did see it, i wouldnt be buying it.
It's Factory Custom MiJ Fender P-Bass 93'. 100% genuine and original except for the pickups replaced with SD Lightnin' Rods. It's not my mod and honestly I wouldn't do it personally if I had this bass form the start. But the sound of this pickup is so sweet, natural and not even slightly active-sounding, full of warmth and clear mids, that I love it and she'll stay that way. I don't regret buying her, she's a beauty and awesome funk machine/hard rocker, my #1 bass for years to come. I don't want to do mess in your thread, so here's her THREAD. And as for the tilted necks - my friend had several Fenders and most had this neck issue. Nothing bad really, the bolts are just loosening a bit with time and it is fully possible to be corrected. He called it "a part of the irresistible Fender charm" or something like this...
11.
???????
I mean, the dot inlays are not right in the middle between A & D strings and the E string is farther from the edge of the neck than G is. Many fenders have the issue with neck tilting up and down. When I bought my P-Bass it had the neck tilted upwards and it looked like this: You can clearly see the E string being too close to the edge. The only benefit was the vibrato possibility for G string increased, but the string tension was not perfect and the PU's magnets were not underneath the strings. I set the neck properly and tightened it a bit and now it's OK. Your bass is really cool and because I was watching it so closely, I've noticed the same issue with it No hard feelings.
12. That's a beatuty! But isn't the neck titled down a bit? I love that 'feature' in Fenders, most P-Basses have this 'loose neck problem' as well.
13.
iF ANYONE IS INTERESTED MAY BE FOR SALE @ £950 ONO
Can you re-post the pics, plz?
14. The upper horn's a bit too pointy in my book, but otherwise, it's a darn pretty machine. Grats!
15. I guess in future basses like this 58' P-bass will be treated as holy artifacts by bassists of the 24th century, held in sealed, bulletproof glass cases with controlled atmosphere and surrounded by a cult following... ...no, wait, it happens already.
16. My P. 93' Custom P-Bass MiJ with Seymour Duncan "Lightnin' Rod" PU.
17. You may remember her from this thread. That's my baby. I love this bass, this will be my first and foremost instrument*. Unique looks. Unique sound. Comfortable playing. Just near-perfect experience. It plays really nice, typical P-bass punchy sound, but mixed with a bit of warm, funky and chewy vibe and a bit of 'purr', a bit like PJ configuration. Two weeks ago I installed a pickup from 80's Ibanez Blazer for a moment and the bass suddenly became an aggressive monster distorting my amp. The Blazer pickup is so great, yet the thing I liked about this P-bass was gone, so the SD came back on board and this bass will have this active pickup installed forever - I prefer its sound, much to my surprise. They're woody, vintage toned and the sound does not resemble the active PU's by even a bit. I've modded the bass, added chrome covers, painted the scratchplate black (again) and set up the instrument, replacing the rubbers under the PU with the foam filling, corrected the neck angle and restrung it. Just unsure, WHAT it REALLY is. It's genuine Fender, that's for sure. She's made in Japan, she has quite un-typical finish looking like a flame top, though probably it's not a FotoFlame Bass, cause the neck's not 'flamed'. Previous owner equipped her with active Seymour-Duncan APB-2 'Lightnin' Rods'. Serial number is Q-started, which places her birthday in Japan, in the early 90's, (Q is for 1993/94, but the number's quite low, so I guess it's 93'). Is it a factory custom? Is it a personal 'pawn shop' creation of some kind? Here's some specs: Color: Cherry Flameburst Neck: single piece 57' RI Neck Material: Maple Number of Frets: 20 Fret Size: Medium Jumbo Position Inlays: Black Dot Position Inlays Neck Plate: Standard 4 Bolt Body: 62' RI Body Material: UNKNOWN, possibly basswood Pickup Configuration: Single Split-Coil Active Pickup Middle Pickup: Seymour Duncan® Basslines APB-2 Lightnin' Rod® Precision Bass® Pickup Controls: Master Volume, Master Tone Hardware: Chrome Bridge: standard MiJ Control Knobs: Knurled Chrome Tuning Machines: standard MiJ String Nut: Synthetic Bone Strings: Fender® Black Nylon TapeWound (.058-.110 Gauges) Unique Features and additions: Active APB-2 electronics, Fender chrome pickup cover, chrome bridge cover, Fender thumbrest The body is similar to FotoFlame bass, but I'm not sure whether it's a real FF, as the pattern is not similar to any other FF I saw. And the neck is regular, single piece maple 57' RI. If anyone knows anything about this bass, what series it is and even how it should be called properly, please inform me, I'd like to solve this enigma. *at least as long as I'd get something from the top of my wishlist; I'm always GAS-ing
18.
So much for "UK only" At least you got a nice case for it. I have the same one for my Stingray. Welcome to the forum btw.
I bought it in UK and brought it to Poland. The case is nice, but it's seen it's share of... everything. Suits the P-bass, I guess. I'll customise the case one day. And the bass - she's great player. Plays almost all by herself. Noticed the feminine? That's how I like her, so I need to restore it to pure awesomeness
19. Hi there, guys. I've decided to finally register Basschat.co.uk and the thing that convinced me was the fact, that... ...it was me who bought this bass you're talking about in this thread. I somehow couldn't resist to take that risk Well, the bass is a big enigma. Damn, she has mismatched parts, the veneer is damaged in many places, the strings don't go between the pickup poles, but she plays like a hardcore P-Bass for sure, despite the fact that, after all, she has custom, active pickup. It's Seymour-Duncan APB-2 'Lightnin' Rod' and it sounds just like it's named. The neck (single piece of maple with skunk stripe) is from 57' Re-Issue, while body seems to be a "FotoFlame", but it's marked as 62' Re-Issue. Everything's MiJ. The neck heel. The neck cavity. Can you guess something from those pictures? It looks like a factory custom to me, but I have no bloody idea what is it. For the record - I'm trying to get an info about the cost of restoring the veneer to its original state, as well as the lacquer on the neck. I'd also like to make a custom, possibly tele style scratchplate from alu (matte black) with separate 'latch' for the battery and the chrome pickup cover. I've already strung it with Fender Black Nylon Tapewound's (50-105). P.S. If it's not appropriate to evaluate the topic in "Ebay Links" after the item was sold, please forgive me
