1. Hi folks I really should have posted about this record when it came out just over two years ago but there you go... I recorded an album of trio improvisations with pianist Jez Carr (who you might know from his duo record with Steve Lawson) and saxophonist Mike Haughton (from Iona). We recorded the whole album in one day and at the time it got a lovely response. I used my trusty Warwick Triumph upright for the whole album which was a joy. Of all the basses I've owned over the years, that is my favourite and nothing really sounds like it. You can check out the record on Bandcamp at http://music.simonlittlebass.com We called it Foreground Music, Vol. I. We haven't made volume II yet, but I'm sure one day we will! Hope you like it
2. Aww thanks very much! Glad you enjoyed it sir!
3. Hi there Just thought I'd add that I'd be willing to trade this bass for an Aguilar SL112 cab if it's in very good condition. Just throwing that out there...
4. Hi there I'm looking to sell my 2006 Warwick Thumb Bass NT VI or trade for a Warwick Infinity NT V string. This is the bass I recorded my first two solo records on so hopefully some of you will already know what it sounds like (or not; I used an awful lot of effects on those records!) It's a beautiful German made 2006 model. All standard except Schaller strap locks replacing the slightly dodgy Warwick ones. Here's the bumpf from the Warwick website. Machineheads: Warwick Machine Heads Nut: Just-A-Nut III Brass Neck Wood: Wenge neck, 5 laminations Fretboard: Tigerstripe Ebony fingerboard Inlay: --- Fluorescent Side Dot: lluminated Side-Dots Fingerboard Radius: 47" Scale length: 34" (long scale) Fret quantity material and size: 26 Jumbo Bronze (extra hard) frets (width: 2.9 mm / height: 1.3 mm) Frets: IFT - Invisible Fretwork Technology Body Shape: Curved Body Shape Bodywood (Topwood / Backwood): Bubinga Pommelé body Pickups: Active MEC Soapbar H/H Electronics: Active MEC 3-way electronics Pot layout: Volume P/P & Balance stacked / Mid / Treble & Bass stacked Switch: --- Function of switch: --- Pickguard: --- Bridge system: 2-piece solid Brass Warwick Bridge Strap system: Warwick security locks Construction: Hidden neck Left Righthand: right-handed or left-handed Colour possibilities: Natural Oil Finish, Coloured Oil Finish or High Polish Finish Hardware colour: Black, Chrome or Gold hardware String label / gauges: Warwick EMP-strings 025" - 135" (38401M) Weight: 5.3 kg I'm selling as I hardly ever need to play a six-string and would really like to get another good Warwick 5. So if anyone has an Infinity NT 5 (a German one) or possibly a Streamer Stage II 5 I'd be interested in a straight trade. I'd have to play the bass first though to make sure it's right. I'm located in Peckham SE London so if you want to come try the bass out drop me a line. It is the Warwick flagship bass. There's really nothing like this instrument. Here are a few pics. I bought it second hand but it's in great condition and has been very looked after by your's truly with setups by Martin at The Gallery. The current list price from Warwick is just over £4000 (€5,652.90 to be precise!!). Eek... Posting two for sale ads today and this is the first time I've done that on here so apologies if I'm doing it wrong...
5. Up for grabs is my beautiful Breedlove B350CB4 acoustic bass guitar. Bought in 2011 for a recording project but has had very little use ever since so it's time to move on... I spent an incredible amount of time researching all the various acoustic bass guitars out there and tried every one I could feasibly get my hands on before settling for this bass. It has a gorgeous piano-like tone when plugged in and unlike a lot of these instruments sounds pretty good acoustically with good projection. It has a lovely preamp with a handy built in tuner. It's a very well-constructed instrument and feels very sturdy. It's pretty much in the same condition as I bought it new with no dings or scratches. I'm including a decent gigabit and TWO spare sets of D'Addario Phosphor Bronze strings (worth at least £40 on their own) This is the first time I've posted in the classifieds so hopefully I've done it right and the pictures have uploaded properly! Am based in Peckham if you want to try it out. No trades on this one; need the cash to fund more gear! If you want to hear the bass in action, here's the solo album I made with it which features just this bass looped up http://music.simonli...lbum/un-plugged
6. Alphonso is such an underrated player. Have you heard the stuff he did with George Duke? Check out The Aura Will Prevail.. So funky!
7. I agree with the comment about making sure your strap is a comfortable length. If it's too high and you find your forearm resting along the edge of the bass too hard you are restricting the blood flow to your right hand. Your wrist will also be at an awkward angle which worsens the effects. Continuing playing like that can lead to carpel tunnel or tendinitis which is frankly no fun for anybody. Definitely worth getting a lesson to focus on technique before you do yourself a mischief...
8. I've got exactly the same problem with my Marcus Jazz Bass. In fact it is at The Gallery as I type getting a fretstone from Martin. A regular setup just wasn't cutting in and I was getting a lot of fret noise; especially up the dusty end as you described. I'm guessing we 're not the only ones having these issues..
9.
Fretboard comparison Maple VS rosewood https://youtu.be/cYhzjrRxAFU
These videos are fantastic! Great job guys The rosewood sounds so much better in this video but for some reason it's the opposite when I play myself. Got 3 Fenders, all with maple boards!
10. The vast majority of the effects have their own mix control within their own settings so it's rarely an issue. The overdrives can be a bit trickier but then the same usually applies with most overdrive pedals. The overdrives and distortions all have a 3-band EQ so you can make up some of the low end dropout there too...
11. I've recently ditched virtually all my individual pedals (I had a massive pedalboard for live!) and bought a Line 6 M9. I absolutely love it. It's the slightly scaled down version of the M13 which is massive and you can use three effects simultaneously, with two options set for each pedal (like having six pedals on a board with three available at once once). It's dead easy to use and saving scenes is so straightforward. The built in looper is also pretty nifty and runs alongside the effect bank although it is a faff switching between fx/loop modes if you want to change sounds whilst love looping. Quite happy to put up with that as the selection of sounds is just immense with loads of really useable combinations. It means that my big hefty pedalboard could be retired and replaced with a nifty little box that fits in my gig bag. Joy... I highly recommend trying these out if you see one...
12. I'd also like to hear from anyone who's been using using this pedal. Specifically how it behaves with the Midi Sync with Ableton and suchlike. Would love to incorporate proper live looping within an Ableton setup and the Infinity Looper looks suspiciously like it might do the trick with it's quantise functions.... Any clues? These pedals are really hard to come by in the shops right now!
13. Same here. I've never turned the ultra low button off on my PF500. It's sounds great with any bass. And double bass too. It's the 'good' button; every amp has one...
14. Hi guys. I spent quite and but of time checking it both the double basses and a couple of the Williamscott electrics. I particularly liked the 5-string fretted bass with the single cutaway. Played like a dream with a great sound. I found the EQ and quantity of knobs a little over the top (the bass sounded best with the EQ flat) but structurally the instrument was one of the best I've played. Slightly concerned about the price point for these instruments though; at £5K the aforementioned 5-string is way out of most professional musician's budget. I realise that these are completely handmade but so are numerous boutique instruments from well-established luthiers. At £5K you're firmly in Fodera territory where even seasoned professionals are unlikely to delve except in their dreams! Great to see Tom Martin on the stand too; he was head of department when I studied at GSMD so it was lovely to catch up. Great to meet Fenderphil too! Good luck with the basses folks. I look forward to seeing your instruments out in the field as it were...
15. The Gallery still wins on both counts for me every time. Probably my favourite shop in the country
16. The Wunjo guys are very helpful and always happy for you to try stuff out for as long as you need. I spent several hours over many visits trying out all their Hofners before settling on the right one and never felt pressured. Know what you mean about the other shops. The old Bass Cellar was the worst for that. So glad it's been replaced with Wunjo. Their guitar and electronics shops are worth a peek too. Couldn't wish for a nicer bunch of people to basically take over half the street!
17. The Gallery in Camden is without question the best bass shop in the country. Martin is an absolute genius and they always have a great selection of gear. I always hated the Bass Cellar and that awful man that ran it but since it got taken over by Wunjo it's a different kettle of fish. The guys that run it are all lovely; very helpful and enthusiastic. You can also often get a very good deal there and they are good for part-exchanges too. Got s great deal on a Hofner Violin bass not long ago with a part-exchange. Was very happy with the service. So if you are around Denmark Street go visit Wunjo. But make sure you go to the Gallery at every available opportunity!
18. Wow! That is a lovely piece of kit. Sounded great in your video. Am now insanely jealous of course... Gonna look up those pickups too. The MEC's on my Warwicks definitely don't sound THAT good!
19. Hi guys, Hope you're enjoying the record. Just to let you all know I've now made my first solo record Mandala a Pay-What-You-Want download over at Bandcamp so feel free to grab a copy if you fancy checking out some of my other stuff. Cheers Simon
20. Hey guys, Thought I'd drop you a quick note to let you know my third solo album [un]plugged is out now. It's all solo acoustic bass guitar, looped up with a Looperlative LP1. You can read my blog post on the release over at my website. This is the first album to be all acoustic; having fell in love with a little Breedlove acoustic bass I really wanted to explore the sound and se how it layered up. It has a really interesting sound; more guitar than bass.. Anyway, you can hear the whole album over at my Bandcamp page (and my other albums too) and download it from there too. I'd love to hear your thoughts and hope you like it. Simon
21. Yup. The link is blank...
22.
I know you guys go crazy for Primus, I have a friend with a spare ticket if anyone wants it, I don't know how much he wants for it, but a heads up.
I only found out they were playing half an hour ago. REALLY want to go but I'm gonna be stuck at a rehearsal all night up the road. Bugger!! Sure you won't have trouble selling that ticket
23. Got a nice review on Guitar Jar yesterday http://www.guitarjar.co.uk/features/knowle...e-simon-little/
24. I don't know why this has posted so many times??? Sorry folks. I'll see if I can ditch the repeats...
25.
Hi, welcome to the forum! Well the quick answer for you to get a more powerful amp with the same sound would be to upgrade to the Hartke HA3500. (350w) or the Hartke HA5500C (500w). Both fantastic amps from the same model series and sharing the same preamplifier.
I used to have a HA3500, going through a 4x10 cab and it didn't sound great when cranked up loud. In my humble experience Hartke amps sound awesome at low to mid volumes, but lose their tone once you push them too hard... Having said that, I haven't tried their gear for a good few years now...
