i.e. Would it fit my Sub4 ? Also anybody have any measurements for them... I'd heard people saying the necks are a bit thinner than bog standard Musicman ones.

Just thinking the other day... if I crashed this, I'd probably be crushed by this cab or impaled on a stingray's neck/mic stand. Bored motorway driving for ya !

I've ripped out the preamp and pickup out of my Sub4. Replaced with a Nordstrand MM4.2 and a John East 3 band parametric eq preamp. Weirdly the chrome plate that came with it didn't fit the screw holes. No idea if this is a Sub4 anomaly or not ?? Anyway, has it cured the weak G ? Yes, although there is a tendancy for the strings to get weaker towards the G, but I've had this same problem on plenty of other basses in the past. It's manageable if you screw the E end down a bit. The Nordstrand is quite a subtle pickup though, certainly not "in your face screaming stingray" as you might want. Me personally I like that, I always thought the original pickup was over the top sound wise. The Bartolini MM replacement is single rails across all four strings so that may be your best bet pickup wise.

Got a cab advertised on Gumtree and it was only on for a couple of hours or so before someone enquired. However the second message I got from the same chap has asked for my name and email address.....as gumtree conversations hide your details. Any body else find this as suspicious as me ? Maybe I'm just being paranoid but the person seems more interested in knowing who I am rather than what I'm selling.

One pickup and 2-band preamp straight out of a Musicman Sub4 that I've modded. Great condition, no issues, I'm sure you know the score already !! £150, ta folks. -
One brand spanking new Hipshot A Bass Bridge. Imported from the US a couple of weeks back in an effort to narrow the string spacing on my Stingray. All it did however was move the outer two strings further away from the pole pieces and therefore didn't work very well. Great piece of kit however, adjustable string spacing, height, intonation and also has holes for through body stringing if needed. Comes with the screws of course !! Like I say it's brand spanking. £50 gets it. -
Vigier Passion neck relief/action/zero fret thing going on !

Right, I've done as you've suggested and there is a good 1-2mm relief in the neck. If I lower the strings further then there's a region around the 10th - 12th fret where they start being choked with fret buzz. All other notes both higher and lower seem fine. A plane and refret would be a nice option to have done I must admit. Wouldn't the neck straighten to a certain degree once the strings are removed or is the neck ultra stable in that respect ? -
Right then, I have my trusty Vigier Passion Series 3, which I'd like to get the action further down on. Now this is where it gets tricky, it has no truss rod. It is however fitted with a couple of carbon rods to strengthen then neck and keep it straight which largely it does very well. Trouble is I just can't quite get the action low enough for my taste, so I wanted to explore my options a bit. It has a zero fret which by looking at it, looks higher up than the other frets to create a kind of pseudo-nut. Is this normal to have it higher up ? I always assumed they were the same height and just acted like a capo, maybe I'm wrong. I've looked down the length of the neck and it looks pretty straight, but is it worth measuring how straight it is with say a steel ruler ? Is it feasible to shave down the zero fret at all, or even have it replaced with a normal nut, maybe even an adjustable one ? All advice gratefully received.

Years ago I'd bought my first rackmount tuner... I've still got it infact, 16 years later. Anyway, the first time I used it, tuned up, put my guitar down and went off to get changed in the dressing room. Our guitarist decided to detune one of my strings for a laugh. First song... F# sounded like a very low A I just kept looking at the fret thinking... I'M PLAYING THE RIGHT NOTE!!!!! Then I spotted our guitarist who couldn't play for laughing on the other side of the stage. Git.

I'm talking brand new ones. If I was to hazard a guess, maybe 100,000 Fenders a year worldwide ? Not sure about the larger manufacturers... Warwick, Musicman, Cort etc
