1. Well, here's my modified Sub4. John East 3 band parametric preamp, Nordstrand pickup and a lovely jubilee scratchplate !
2. Opinions? Look damn fine to me, sound pretty good on the youtube clips I've watched too....and for £250 or so...make a nice little upgrade project in the longer term
3. The one in the clip I believe is a 1997 version with the quad-coil Bartolini in it.
4. Aww man, how nice does this sound. I want I want I want !!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNCLPORXqQk
5. Looks like crazy string spacing to me, maybe 19mm ??
6. Couple of months old, brand spanking new, unblemished etc etc. The only reason I'm getting rid of this is that I'm changing to a more narrow bridge and that unfortunately moves the outer strings too far away from the pole pieces. So the plan is to change the Nordstrand for maybe a Bartolini that uses rails instead of individual poles. Cost £100 from bass direct, so I'm willing to take say £75 for it.... like I say it's spotless. Alternatively, if you've got a brand new Bart kicking about I'll swap ya ! Cheers Faron pics to follow at some point today.....
7. Recently bought a Hipshot bridge to fit on my Stingray mutant, but the string spacing takes the outer strings just far enough away from the pole pieces to effect the sound, so I've put the old one back on for now. I noticed the Bartolini MMC has just a plain cover but I'm assuming that the pole pieces are underneath ?? or for that matter does anyone make a replacement pickup where the poles are closer together ? ta
8. Hate sh*t like this, I'd be well pissed off if I'd been suckered into that one.
9. Frank Blair. What bass is that by the way ? Aria of some sort ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-FpVyVJyP4&feature=related
10. Here we go.... 11.
Very interesting. What did it go for?
No idea, the auction house is open all day so the public can browse the items but you have to turn up on the evening to find out.
12. The usual Tuesday meander down to the local auction house... quite a few guitars there today... nothing particularly special... Marlin Guitar, Tanglewood bass etc... then I clocked eyes on this unusual beast... A Hohner Arbor MX1. Not seen one before, looks like twin humbuckers to me. Interesting find I thought. All info and opinions welcome as usual. One day I might find that pink 62 Jazz the missus accidentally flogged a few years back
13. I'd be up for the cab but wouldn't want the flightcase. Prefer a padded cover to be honest.
14. Looking to get one of these, you can pick the 6 up for say £120 on eBay whereas the newer 10 is at least double that. Question is..is there much difference in the two units ? Is it worth paying the extra moolah? Ta folks
15. If you're serious about spending that kinda money on an amp then import a Genz Benz Shuttlemax 9.2 from the USA like I did. Came out around £620 in total. Monster amp.
16. Just be aware, the rack ears are £75. Complete rip off, order them from the US too !!
17. Intrigued by these I must admit. Like the 2x12s, although I'd like two 8 ohms ones rather than a single 4. Interesting 3 way design too. Like the stackable 1x12s though, great idea http://www.extendedaudiodesign.co.uk/
18. Well gents, tried it in anger for the first time last night. Firstly the good things.... Headroom - tonnes of it. I've had some amps before that compress/limit the signal when playing aggressively. My old Markbass SA450 used to do this but maybe I was just asking too much of it. The Shuttlemax is different, had the amp volume set at 8 'o' clock (almost off altogether) and it's blisteringly loud, ended up controlling the volume on the preamp section! Ha. Insane. Tone shaping possibilities are endless, 5 way footswitch lets you choose between Tube/Fet, a mix of the two on/off, Low boost, mid scoop, high boost. The amount of each one is set on the amp, so you can for example choose exactly how much bass boost you want then switch it in/out at your leisure. Marvelous ! Bad things.... Power switch is on the back... which is annoying when it's rackmounted. Thought the mute might have been included on the footswitch, which it isn't. The blue LEDs on the amp are stupidly bright to the extent where you struggle seeing what's actually written on the face of the amp...absolutely blinding. All in all though... one very happy bunny !!
19.
That is serious saving and its the one amp I need!!!! Where did you import from?
Bought from an Americam ebay seller called Musicpower. Looks like the ebay account for a chain of US music stores...sent from San Diego by UPS, took 9 days, had to pay £124 quid duty on the doorstep but still cheap.
20. For the price it's an insane piece of kit, sounds immense, the global signal controls on the right hand side are superbly simply. Separate effects loops for both FET & Tube channels but with a third loop that combines both. I honestly can't fault it.
21. First impressions.... Jesus H Christ almighty... this is loud man. Really stupidly loud... and that was only using a single 8ohm Hartke 410 hydrive. Imported from the US cost me roughly £590 in total, a fair old saving of roughly £300. Cushty !
22. Why don't one of the many millionaire artists he has worked with over the years help him out ? Just a thought like.
23. Sold my Markbass SA450, paid direct into bank account... no problems whatsoever.
