1. Sibob, no no, that's not what I meant. I like to see their gear, their technique and licks - and they get the very least time on camera. Am I the only one to get annoyed and frustrated by this? Frank
2. After watching Glasto and that global warming gig yesterday I started to wonder why it seems to be that the bass player is the least filmed in a band. Obviously, the singer is the most filmed and even more so if he/she is also playing an instrument. Guitarists and drummers also appear more often and for longer shots than the poor old bassplayer. Why are we so uninteresting to the producers? (I've always threatened to get a T shirt that says "Nobody wants to s**g the bassplayer" Wife forbids it in case someone wants to prove me wrong.) Frank
3. I've sent you a PM - and have a bump for a nice jazz. Frank
4.
Thanks to our ever reliable Royal Mail and their strikes, I still don't have the cab yet (or the other stuff I ordered from the US). Looking at the tracking information the plane carrying my cab was in the air for 7 days as it left the US on 28th and didn't arrive here until 5th. After this weekend I am on holiday for a fortnight and won't get the chance to play live until the last Saturday of the month. It could be worse - my other cabs that I am selling might have sold and I could now be without one at all for this weekend's gigs
That's a real bummer mate. Hope it arrives soon anyway. I'd still be interested to hear your opinions once you get to gig the Schroeder. Have a good holiday BTW. Frank
5. Delberthot posted: "I have just taken the plunge and ordered one direct with Jorg Schroeder - what a nice guy. I have gone with the 1212L in blue rhino finish. I ordered it monday 18th and he is posting it to me this monday coming (25th) so hopefully I should have it for my gig next Friday. " Would be interesting to hear how you're getting on with the new Schroeder. Thanks, Frank
6. Glad to hear it's all ended well Dave. BTW, if it's metle you're joining then araldite is an excellent adhesive. Superglue is best for a porous surface or semi-porous. If I've misunderstood what you're glueing, just ignore this. Frank
7. I can't set myself up as an expert here but following advice on the old BW I bought a second Markbass 2x10 traveller cab and stacked them vertically. The footprint on stage was tiny. The sound could be heard well both by me and the audience. It was plenty loud, sounded deep enough for my rock covers band. Might be your solution. Only changed because smaller car forced me into a one cab solution. (Schroeder 1212L, wonderful cab IMO) After saying that I think the band have a f***ing cheek telling you what gear to use. Tell THEM to get something smaller. See how well that goes down? ha ! Frank
8.
Oh and first proper gig with the Mark Bass LMK + Schroeder 1212L last night. Stunning sound. Even my band noticed .. One surprise difference between this and my Peavy gear is that when it got a bit loud at the end it didn't mash up the bass sound and hurt my ears. I could hear it all clearly so it was a lot less physically demanding. My ears feel better this morning too. It's a hit with me .. OG
Yes, I also used Peavy gear for 15 years or so and didn't know what I was missing. It's reliable gear though - never once let me down. The Schroeder 1212L is everything I need and more. My band also notice a huge difference in my sound. Best bit of all is how easy it is to hear yourself. Frank
9. bubble wrap costs a bit but I;ve always found that it protects gear perfectly. Frank
10. I have an older one with the maple body, also a 5-er. These are superb instruments and that green colour is lovely. The quality is as near perfect as I've ever seen. I highly recommend this. Good luck with the sale. Frank.
11. Here's an unusual one I think. I use an AutoGlym case which originally contained car wax, wheel cleaners, car shampoo etc. A LMII fits exactly in the cases main section. (And I mean exactly !!) A full set of cables plus spares fit easily in the side pocket. The whole thing is very compact and light and offers good protection. They can be bought from Halfords but I'm not sure of the cost because I got it as a present. Frank
12. Hey bigwan, I'm using a Schroeder 1212L. Does it all for me. Also owned Markbass 2x10s and 1 x15 in the past but for compactness, volume and sound I find the Schroeder is a good compromise. I'm in Belfast. If you want to hear the cab, let me know. Had a gig last week but it being summer, I think our next gig is in August but you're welcome to try it at my house. Frank
13. I've sold a few items this year and bought a few basses. Please post if you're happy with the way the deals were conducted. Thanks, Frank
14. Although I would in no way set myself up as an expert in sound or bass gear in general, I think the 1212L I bought a few months ago is the perfect solution (for me at least) for the type of gigs I do. (Usual pubs, clubs, the odd function) Best things are: You can hear yourself really clearly. Everyone in the band and audience can hear you as well. Sound is full, clear and punchy. Suits all the music I play. (Rock, blues, covers) It's lightweight, compact but sounds like a much bigger cab to my ears. Good value for money, especially as it's a one-cab solution. Previously I used two cabs, far more expensive than the one Schroeder. (Markbass, although I lost money selling as I bought a pair of Markbass 2x10s new, such is life. Also paired a 2x10 with a 1x15 for a while.) When I first tried the Schroeder at home I wasn't very impressed. After a couple of gigs I was sold. It works best playing gigs, but sounds poor at home I think. The best advice is definately to try one yourself though. Obviously, not everyone will like them. Frank

16. Thanks for the very detailed reply shockwave. And that's an excellent job you've done there. There's something cool about having a bass that no body else will have. BTW, where did you get the gold bridge and pickup covers? Frank
17. Saw a lovely Tokai Hardpuncher today. Brand new, sticker price £399. Jap built, vintage cream, matching cream/whitish headstock, maple fretboard, gold hardware, (I'm undecided about gold hardware on a P but it has a pimped look) and .......white guard. I am tempted but I think it would look better with a tort guard. Can you get one to fit? Would a Fender one fit? What would be a reasonable price on this bearing in mind they stopped making them in Japan recently? Thanks for any advice. Frank

20. Ah, CB radio. As soon as they legalised it everyone lost interest. Me included. Best fun was dodging the police when it was illegal. Thanks for the welcomes. Frank
21. Thanks to everyone involved in the new site. The artist formerly known as therealmachinehead has reverted to his usual name- machinehead. I couldn't register as machinehead on Bassworld for some reason. I've used this name since the days of CB radio in the early 80s. Frank
22. I've owned both the yellow one one and currently own a LMII. To my ears they sound similar. Certainly in a gigging situation I can't hear any difference. The yellow one is an excellent amp which I only sold on as part of my obsession for going as light as possible due to back pain and a frozen shoulder. I'd be more than happy to use either amp and I'd say the yellow one would make a great used bargain these days. BTW, I have no intention of changing to the new F1. Frank
